How to get there[edit]

It would be great if Wiki-ers would include a "how to get there" for inaccessible locations such as this shrine. I have been completely around the mountain twice, and Clairvoyance is just nuts (i.e. seems to work, but following it eventually returns "no direct path found") so no help. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 07:23 on 11 January 2012

Go to Dawnstar and just south of it (On your map) is a giant camp called Red Road Pass (just south of it is Hall of the vigilant where you can steal a daedric heart.) once your at Red Road Pass you can kill the giants or sneak past. Then you want to go south-west (On your map) until you see frostmere crypt (You will see a woman kill some bandits and tell you about how she got blamed for the missing sword). Again just south-west (On your map) of that you will see The Lord Stone then just keep climbing until you reach there.
There is a dragon burial site near the shrine you may have to kill it.
It gives you a new shout Frost Breath. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 02:36 on 15 January 2012

Low-Ranked Dremora[edit]

Do they respawn or not? The information in the general section and the note contradict each other. Reys 20:18, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Decided to test this out. After waiting week and reentering, the Dremora remained dead. It should be noted that some treasures reappeared, notably new items in the large chest and a few ingots reappeared. Reys 20:33, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
They do respawn ... or atleast they should. For whatever reason somtimes they might not. They respawn on all but one of my chars. No matter how long I wait on that one they dont come back. Not sure what causes this tho, they respawn every 7 days for my other chars. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 20:45, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
Do you think it could possibly be the race of the character? What is your race for the one where they don't respawn? Mine is an Argonian. Reys 22:51, 17 January 2012 (UTC)
I dont see why it would be race related but my character that doesnt have them respawn is a Wood Elf. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 18:56, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
Just a possible theory if it was only happening with one character. I'm clue-less then. Reys 20:49, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Additional confirmation: Took 7 or more days, but I had to wait outside of the hold. 16:38, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

When they do respawn, does their level change; i.e. i was level 35 when i first time i cleared this area and it had dremora kynreeve, if i come back a few levels after, are they still kynreeve? i'm asking because i want to dead thrall a dremora but they say that valkynaz is too strong so i'm planning on coming back to this area just for that. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 07:53 on 23 March 2012

Yes, when they respawn, their level should change as yours does, give or take. Once they've spawned, though, I believe they stay the same level until the area is cleared. I'm not 100% certain of that, though. Robin Hoodtalk 07:42, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

I think they do re-spawn after each two or three days as it happened to me but once I used the key cleared the area, they stopped re-spawning. I guess they will keep re-spawning if you never enter the door.

BY JOVE...I think I may have solved the puzzle...[edit]

Okay, so I too experienced the issue where the Dremora do not respawn, but the loot does. I figured there was some kind of permanent bug from a patch or something, and just gave up after testing about every possible variation of waiting reloading, blah blah.

I then started my game over from an earlier level, and I noticed that, after I redid the quest (Pieces of the Past), the Dremora were respawning. Weird, right?

I thought about whether or not I had done anything differently...and...yes, I did:

The second time I played through with my character, I got mouthy with Mehrunes (I just went along with everything the first time). When he says to kill Silus, I chose the option to argue; after I killed Silus, and he says wreak havoc on Tamriel or whatever, I chose the option to say that I'll do whatever I want with it.

What's more, I started an entirely new game, this time with a Nord character (the old game was with an Imperial, and FWIW, both female), and I just tested my little theory re the bug. Hell, I even did it with a follower along with me (while I killed Silus and all of that), and voila! Dremora are respawning.

I hope that I've seriously solved this little issue for more people than just myself.

Please, if anyone tests this out, do post something about how it goes. -- 07:42, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

I just did the quest, but I'll save the autosave from right outside of the museum prior to heading to the shrine. I'll try waiting the suggested 10 days for everything to respawn on my save after being courteous to Dagon and if the dremora fail to appear then I'll load the other save and be mouthy this time and see what happens. For background, Lydia and Barbas the annoying are my followers and nothing will be different except for my discussions choices with Dagon. I have another theory, though. Did you guys by chance test the Razor on the Dremora in the shrine with some saves, but not others? — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 04:00 on 25 May 2012
Edit: I just finished waiting 10 days and then going in on the Mr. Courteous save. All FOUR Dremora respawned, complete with fire-enchanted iron weapons much like the first time they appeared. Everything respawned inside too; so your theory appears busted. The only guaranteed way to get proper respawns would seem to be finding the point where the bug appears and saving prior to that and hoping it doesn't happen. I'll try waiting 10 more days later and see if the same thing happens. The only things that weren't there that I was hoping for were some more Ebony armor pieces, but I am at level 33, so they probably only appear sporadically. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 04:49 on 25 May 2012
Well first off, thanks for the info and sorry for the late reply (I kinda figured no one was concerned about that bug, though it annoyed the Hell outta me, and I forgot about it after a week or two).
Anyway, what I posted was pretty self-explanatory, and most players were having the Dremora respawn or not respawn no matter what they did, which is why I thought there was some significance to how you answer Dagon's questions when that was all I did different to end my losing streak (which never came back, either).
Yeah I doubt that just getting mouthy with MD is what makes the difference too, but maybe it does if you have/had that bug (?). As for my "theory" being "busted" (BTW, I believe you meant "hypothesis"...or at least you should have...they do have different meanings), I don't see how you proved anything: the respawning Dremora had worked fine for you before and it kept on working fine for you after you did something different. That isn't exactly earth-shattering.
While on the topic, I found another weird variable (among others): if one of the Dremora falls off the ledge when he dies, then only one respawns outside the next time you show up.
It could be anything number of things that causes them to not respawn or whatever, I was sharing info that I thought might help some people that were pulling their hair out.
FYI, I never, ever had a problem with the goodies respawning (neither did most people), just the Dremoras.
Oh one more thing, I hardly ever use Mehrune's Razor, so I never tested it inside or outside of the Temple. I don't know why I never use it, really, but IMO Vladr's Lucky Dagger is about 50x better 95% of the time.

What is the writing?[edit]

not the topic, it is necessary not found((

Area respawing issue[edit]

I've periodically gone back to the Shrine 9 times giving it 10 days or more between visits, always with the same character. The Dremora respawned 7 times. Once without weapons, using their fists. The cave interior completely respawned 5 times, partially respawned 3. The respawn is triggered by character presence. I used TCL to descend straight down on the area and the Dremora spawn at about 20 feet away. So this is not entirely a normal respawn as say, bandit chiefs, and is subject to (most likely) multiple scripts with variables triggering things. I'm assuming the scripts are the issue as they don't always check things thoroughly. — Unsigned comment by Sniffles (talkcontribs) at 06:19 on 12 April 2013

Thank you for the interesting solid input on this issue. Who knows if this will ever be fully figured out, but having an idea of where the problem most likely lies is good. So is knowing that this location may eventually respawn even if it doesn't the first time you go back after waiting.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 18:40, 13 April 2013 (GMT)

Full respawn of the dremora and loot at mehrune dagons shrine[edit]

To get a full respawn of the dremora and loot at mehrune dagons shrine puzzle figured out

i will start at the top but with some key points to add first.

So first of all there is persumption that race may have some play in the theory but this is infact not correct people claim that they wont respawn for the Argonian race. however my race is Argonian.

Time is a factor you have to wait for about 10 game days after each initial kill.So gathering deadric hearts with this method is longer but cheaper.

First things to do to start the process: 1.Recieve a letter inviting you to the museum in dawnstar when you reach level 20. 2.Go to the museum and talk to silius outside then again inside he will tell you about a job he needs doing. 3.Accept the job and collect the 3 missing pieces of mehrunes razor ( can collect then together or seperatly before returning to dawnstar) 4.advised to save the game before you re-enter the museum with all or last peice of the dagger. to silius and he will let you in on a final secret and then will ask you to accompany him to the mehrune dagons shrine. 6.go to the shrine and talk to dagon when asked to do so. 7.kill silius and retrieve the fixed mehrunes razor ( doesnt matter if you take he nice path or the argueing path...) 8.before you leave dagon will summon 4 dremora 2 iside and 2 outside kill the two outside but dont let them fall of the cliff. 9.take a key to the shrine of a dead dremora and enter the shrine to kil the other 2 dremora and grab all the loot. just fast travel to a known location that isnt close to the shrine (Note... if you have discovered the vigilant building that is nearby the shrine then thats as far as you need to go.

so thats the start-up process here is were things can get tricky for everyone as you expect the dremora and all the loot to have respawned like the bandits do and draugr. but know this there are times were they dont respawn at all for a player but i being a tester of things have discovered a way of getting a full respawn of the dremora and loot.

Here is were others have speculated on the situation without viable proof. is was believed that the dremora won't respawn for the race argonians. this isn't true as my race is argonian as ive previously stated.

so the way to get a full respawn on the dremora and internal loot with full success 1. after the initial killing of the first 4 dremora fast travel to a known location. 2. wait for ten game days and put any items you dont want or need into storage if your already being weighed down.(note... don't put the mehrunes razor into storage) 3. after 10 game days pass return to the shrine with the mehrunes razor in your inventory and the four dremora and all loot will have respawned.

the summary to my findings. basically the dremora and loot within the shrine does not act like other respawnable items to were you only have to wait 2 game days so you have no choice to wait for 10 game days after each kill. if you return after 10 game days with the mehrunes razor the dremora and loot inside will have fully respawned giving max loot if you return after 10 game days without the mehrunes razor chances are you will only run into 2 dremora and half of the loot or even no dremora and no loot.

i hope this helps those who are trying to find the answer to this riddle and know that it has been solved and now you know that the respawn at the shrine and the mehrunes razor are tied in with one anouther.

i have tested this theory several times by returning with and without the razor and noted that they dremora have always fully respawned with the mehrunes razor on my character yet them not respawning without it — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 14:32 on 14 August 2013 (GMT)

Thank you for your input, and that's quite an interesting idea. To me, it seems like this might indeed be a reasonable solution if there are a number of special scripts connected to the shrine and its respawning dremora. Considering who the shrine is to, this seems like an obvious possibility that is easy for a lot of people (including me) to miss. I'll conduct my own tests of this later tonight or in the next few days at some point, and post my results afterwards.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 03:51, 29 November 2013 (GMT)

Razor as important treasure[edit]

I don't believe that the Razor qualifies as "important treasure" for the purposes of the place summary template. The important treasure is meant to list guaranteed and unique or otherwise valuable items that can be found and obtained within a dungeon. Mehrunes' Razor is given as a reward for completing an associated quest a certain way (i.e., killing Silus), and is not actually obtained in the normal course of going through the dungeon. Listing quest-exclusive rewards as important treasure for a dungeon in which said quest takes place can be misleading to readers, and also goes against our policy on redundancy, which states in part that "Only information that is directly (emphasis added) relevant to a given page should be included on the page." The Razor isn't guaranteed treasure either, since it's possible to receive gold as a reward instead depending on how the quest is completed. I have removed it from the template for the time being, and would like for the issue to be resolved here before it is re-added. Zul do onikaanLaan tinvaak 22:44, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

OURENTITY COMMENT: --> It's with holding accurate and complete information, regardless of your feelings or thoughts, new people to the game :access these articles and buy putting different information on different pages spread out through different articles is the definition of :redundancy. This is a "Place/Location" article where the item in question is found, those it should be indicated. OurEntity (talk) 23:08, 11 January 2016 (UTC) OURENTITY
Actually, listing information once and on the most relevant article is the opposite of redundancy. The razor cannot be found here outside of the quest, and will potentially never even appear depending on your choice in the quest. It's a quest reward, not loot, and therefore isn't really necessary to mention in the summary table. —Legoless (talk) 23:14, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
(edit conflict) The accurate and complete information is listed on the relevant quest page. You are correct in saying that "putting different information on different pages" is the definition of redundancy, and our policy is to avoid redundancy by listing the item as a reward only where it's most relevant (in other words, the quest page). It's true that there's some room for interpretation as to what can be considered "important information", but adding information purely for the sake of making the information on an article "complete" can lead to articles being flooded with bits of random trivia that are of little interest to most readers and may not hold true for every person playing the game (which is another thing we try to avoid).
