Can't find Meeko[edit]

I went to the hut and no one was there, except for the dead owner. There was a frostbite spider not far from the hut, could it be that Meeko got killed before I found him ? Yet I couldn't find his body either. Rowena 15:09, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

You'll probably find him on the road near the house. That's where I found him too. As soon as he detects you he will run back to the house and there you can talk to him. Narzul 15:12, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Meeko Disappeared Help[edit]

Meeko disappeared on me and made me very sad, since i always quick save i would have to go back to far in the game to get him back, how can i get him with a console command or something.

I have grown quite fond of him!! — Unsigned comment by 93.143.231.43 (talk) at 20:36 on 20 December 2011

player.PlaceAtMe 000D95EA, it SHOULD return him. Otherwise try his BaseID instead of Ref/ActorID. He may be dead if he got lost somewhere dangerous... So prepare for a corpse, as it's quite possible.--Ravage 23:10, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
Though resurrect or resurrect 1 would fix that. 95.206.24.5 13:53, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Don't Let Him In The House[edit]

I found it good advice not to let the dog in the house. He has a habit of blocking the doorway, trapping you in a room. It's something of a defect that you can't leap over him (you hit your head on the ceiling) nor can you simply step over him. Sometimes he'll move if you bump into him a time or two, but once I ended up having to tell him to go home in order to get him to move. (I then reacquired him before he got out of the house.)

Same applies for taking him into a dungeon--just don't do it. That said, he's a nice companion outdoors, and a fearless barker at dragons. — Unsigned comment by Greg Hullender (talkcontribs) at 21:45 on January 1, 2012

I have the same problem with Lydia as well. A quick fus solves the problem. Don't do it more than twice though. He'll become agressive in which case you can sheath your weapon and he'll calm, but if he attacks you while Lydia has a powerful weapon it could be trouble because Lydia lights him up as soon as soon as his attitude changes to agressive. I haven't fus ro da'd him yet, but I haven't had to. I know that Lydia doesn't bat an eye at this. — Unsigned comment by 72.62.13.221 (talk) at 04:13 on February 18, 2012
I just sprint into whoever (or whatever) is in the way, and they back up enough to let me out. VycDarkshadow (talk) 21:17, 30 March 2013 (GMT)
I also sprint into him and have no issues. Occasionally Meeko or Lydia will block doorways, but a good sprinting into them will fix that. Sometimes they get trapped, though, and I need to hilariously sneak/crouch down, look up into them, and Fus Ro Dah! That normally sends them flying into the sky like a ragdoll and when they land they're unstuck. In my larger homes I usually tell them both to wait at the door because they have a habit of knocking stuff over.--72.91.149.47 03:57, 27 May 2013 (GMT)Archmage Darium

Grammatical Error[edit]

The phrase "allot quicker" is used in the trivia/facts section. This should be corrected to "more quickly" for grammar purposes, or rephrased entirely.

Thanks. — Unsigned comment by 72.145.250.167 (talk) at 19:59 on 5 January 2012

As well as "If Meeko is told to wait in one of your own houses, he will he not return to his shack." He will he not? Not only can this contributor not form coherent sentences, this is deliberately false information. Meeko will leave for home after the customary few days of making him wait, just as any other follower. (AT THE RISK OF ADDING NONSENSE) 70.114.63.215 21:19, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
He could be bugged for that contributor. Please also consider that sometimes people mistype things, and an extra two-letter word sometimes sneaks in there. If it is a bug, though, we may need more verification. --Velyanthe 22:05, 25 January 2012 (UTC)

Meekos Health[edit]

On PS3 I first met him at level 52. on the first dungeon, on the second fight, was against a frostbit spider, I accidentally hiited him, ONCE. he died, one hit kill. was he supposed to be that weak or i just had bad luck? — Unsigned comment by 200.186.92.217 (talk) on 6 January 2012

It could have been a critical hit. I've one-shot Vigilance (another dog) by bow by accident when stalking an enemy that he charged just as I let my arrow fly. It happens. — Unsigned comment by Jonsarik (talkcontribs) on January 9, 2012 18:25

Respawning[edit]

Meeko died during a fight. Sometime later I found him back at the shack and made him a follower again. If this has happened to anyone else I'll add to the page. It would be handy to know how long it takes in game days. Bwilderbeast 23:08, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Meeko died for me and I got him back the next day. — Unsigned comment by 138.89.176.75 (talk) at 23:39 on 16 August 2012
To avoid ever having Meeko die, I made him an essential follower using the console command setessential 000D95E9 1. No regrets ever :3 - February 16th, 2014. — Unsigned comment by 184.61.216.207 (talk) at 08:22 on 16 February 2014

Level?[edit]

Does anyone know his max level? And if the Wabbajack level-up trick works on the dogs? Thanks!--Barfightbob 19:50, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Level is 10-25, I added it to the page. I don't know about Wabbajack. --Velyanthe 21:22, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
It works, just tried it. it works well even though he turned into a Daedra... — Unsigned comment by 71.45.72.71 (talk) at 17:21 on 2 June 2013

Kyne's Peace[edit]

I've removed the following note:

  • Meeko is too strong to be affected by Kyne's Peace. [verification needed — Is this true?]

As I've used Kyne's Peace (lowest level) on Meeko without problem. In my particular case it was after a Spriggan turned him against me, but it worked exactly as expected so I see no evidence that Meeko is able to resist it. Perhaps if you gain him as a follower at a high level? It really needs to be verified and put back with more detail, as Kyne's Peace definitely can work on him. -- Haravikk 12:17, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Archery[edit]

... Why is "Archery" listed as one of his skills? — Unsigned comment by Itssnowing (talkcontribs) at 20:11 on August 14, 2012

The game data has it as one of his highest skills. The fact that he never uses it is irrelevant; game data isn't always logical. Vely►t►e 00:15, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
Logic, heh. Install a follower mod that lets you see his inventory. He carries a hunting bow... 93.229.115.28 13:19, 25 February 2013 (GMT)

Pet?[edit]

Can anyone confirm that Meeko can actually become a pet? Cause I know he's tagged that way as with Hearthfire but I've yet to have any of the children in any of the houses ask to keep him. Lord Eydvar Talk|Contribs 17:51, 3 November 2012 (GMT)

I can confirm that Meeko can be a pet for Hearthfire kids. It is their first pet. After just a few visit back home (Breezehome) one of them demanded Meeko as pet. But they can only have 1 "doggy" and 1 random creature like a fox as pets. They can't have 2 dogs as pets. I tried with Sceolang the husky but the kids ignored it and got a fox instead. — Unsigned comment by 175.143.246.129 (talk) at 14:35 on 11 December 2012

Disappeared[edit]

Meeko disappeared on me. He is nowhere to be found, and yet when I try to buy vigilance the guy says "you already have an animal with you". HELP! — Unsigned comment by 70.248.16.131 (talk) at 20:47 on 20 February 2013

There's an answer to your "missing dog" on the Stray Dog section, under Discussion. VycDarkshadow (talk) 21:19, 30 March 2013 (GMT)

Spriggans and Meeko[edit]

I'm having a problem where Spriggans keep turning him against me and my human companion kills them. Do Spriggan's animal control spell wear off, or once it's done he's evil for good? --Coxis (talk) 02:16, 28 July 2013 (GMT)

In my experience, yes, it wears off. I've noticed a couple of times that once the spriggan is dead, Meeko seems to stop being aggressive towards you even though he still glows green, and eventually the green fades away and all is back to normal. Whether that's just conincidance, or if you actually have to kill the spriggan for it to wear off, I'm not sure. Obax (talk) 06:09, 28 December 2014 (GMT)

What happens if Meeko dies as a pet?[edit]

Well, I "retired" Meeko from my service. But he became the house pet while he was still following me. And now he is at my house where the children are at. Actually I'm sorry to say this but I've grown tired of him(and he is dreary ash and all). Yeah I know I'm not a good human being. Well the huskies look cool(and I love those dogs;its true). So if I lost Meeko by chance ;) will the pet slot get empty? Will I be able to get a husky as a pet? Thanks in advance. -Seeker23 (talk) 16:59, 18 August 2013 (GMT)

If you really want a husky for your follower/dog, then you can actually download a mod that turns all of the dogs of Skyrim into huskies. I got tired of seeing the same old, grey dogs time after time, so it's really nice to have some variety! You can change them into german shepherds and other types of dogs too, just try looking on the Steam workshop. — Unsigned comment by 108.59.8.208 (talk) at 17:14 on 10 February 2014

Pathfinding Fix?[edit]

Is there a mod or way to fix this idiot's pathfinding? He's useful as a distraction but seems intentionally designed to block off doors and tunnels. Its getting annoying having to constantly shout him out of the way. Jarwulf (talk) 23:42, 29 July 2014 (GMT)
