Dog Bugs/Glitches[edit]
I know this has been discussed in other places (or at least on other sites) but is their any definitive list of dog glitches/problems here on UESP? I've had the one where my dog just up and disappeared completely. I was able to fix that issue by using the "Meeko method" and was then able to get a Dawnguard Husky. However, during the vampire quest, he refused to follow me into the courtyard of the vampire's castle, so I had to dismiss him. I tested the dimissing/rehiring and it worked fine, so I let him go and watched him walk away. I expected him to return to the fort. After finishing the main Dawnguard questline, I went back to get him for some side quest action. He was there in his paddock, but the game NOW says I already have an animal follower and I can't get him again. Ugh! I love having a dog with me (especially now that I can't hurt followers), but it seems the glitches are stacked against me here. Anyone else have THIS issue or other dog issues they'd like to describe? ~FiveCentFather (Ken N.) (talk) 23:20, 5 March 2013 (GMT)
Buy a dog?[edit]
According to this, you can buy a dog. Does anyone know where and how? Price shouldn't be an issue but that could also be helpful. — Unsigned comment by 24.247.52.72 (talk) at 23:53 on 30 June 2013
- Vigilance is a war dog that you can purchase for 500 gold. It is found next to the stables outside Markarth with its owner Banning. — ABCface◥ 06:47, 1 July 2013 (GMT)
Dog goes to home in city?[edit]
Just picked up a dog, want to send him home, but I only own a house in Solitude and Whiterun. Can it go to either of these? Or is it ONLY the Hearthfire homes? FMPhoenixHawk (talk) 09:16, 30 November 2013 (GMT)
- As far as I know, telling a dog follower to go home sets him return to his home rather than yours. So it would be Meeko's Shack for Meeko, the Markarth Stables for Vigilance, and the Stray Dog "will return to where it was fighting the creatures and walk between two spots there." -- SarthesArai Talk 10:51, 30 November 2013 (GMT)

- Well, crap. I told him to stay at the house, I guess every few days I'll have to do that until I get one of the Hearthfire homes. FMPhoenixHawk (talk) 21:40, 1 December 2013 (GMT)

- I do not think that will help you any more, as the dog still would go to his own home rather than any of the homes you provide. —MortenOSlash (talk) 05:28, 2 December 2013 (GMT)
- The one dog is still sitting in Solitude. I picked up another one, and he was killed just outside Lakeview Manor. So I may be able to grab him. If not, am I stuck without a dog now? Or do I have to use the Meeko method. FMPhoenixHawk (talk) 13:09, 2 December 2013 (GMT)

Can you unadopt dogs?[edit]
I'm guessing the answer is no, unless it dies, but I thought I'd ask anyway. I had a stray dog following me around, which then disappeared on me. After a very long time, I adopted a kid, and one day she just randomly asked if she could keep my dog as a pet. Stupidly I said yes, which I'm assuming means my 'dog pet slot' is filled with the non-existent stray dog, and now that I've found Meeko, he can't get adopted... For the record, I'm on a PS3, so console commands won't help. Obax (talk) 06:05, 28 December 2014 (GMT)
Dog and Human (or Vampire) Follower Fighting With One Another[edit]
I've noticed that on occasion that my dog, regardless of whether it is purchased, borrowed (Dawnguard canines) or adopted like (Meeko or a stray) will on occasion begin to fight with whoever is following me after a fight. The fight is not necessarily a boss fight nor any dragon fight just a battle in general. What is causing this and why? Thus far to fix this I have had to go back and reload some battles and make the dog sit it out on the sidelines a ways prior to the battle. I'm playing on Xbox 360 and I'm guessing there is no way to fix this or is there a patch for this from Bethesda? The only other way I've been able to stop this is to fast travel to another location however this does not work when down inside a dungeon. — Unsigned comment by 173.88.135.138 (talk) at 20:52 on 1 July 2015 (UTC)
- Most followers, including dogs, will attack any NPC or creature who deals damage to them, regardless if the harm was intended or by mistake. I suppose your other follower might have dealt damage to your dog by mistake, quite probably by using a harmfull area spell that was meant to harm your enemy. I do not believe there are any ways of preventing this. —MortenOSlash (talk) 04:59, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Bugs PC users can find the dog ...[edit]
Save before attempting. If it thinks its in a world full of cats and trees ..., (dead) and removed from the game it could hang. I tried it with Edda who had died. Instead use - PRID <dog ref> then Moveto Player, if your eyes fail you, try Enable then resurrect and maybe a prod with an EVP.
