Incorrect 'Next Quest'[edit]

"After this quest the main ones are not posted on the wiki page. It is incorrect, the next two a called Prophet and Scroll Scouting." Steven Drake 18:49, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Gunmar's location Radiant[edit]
I know for a fact that Gunmar's location is radiant, as I've done that quest two times on the Xbox 360. The page only lists one of the possible locations. — Unsigned comment by TaleGunner (talk • contribs) at 20:58 on 28 June 2012
- I'll add a {{VN}} tag to the location with a note to discuss here, thanks for the info! ABCface◥ 21:08, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
- I found Gunmar at Honeystrand Cave, also near Iverstead.Babette 03:45, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- For me, Gunmar is at Cronvangr Cave, with dozens and dozens of frostbite spiders that keep him in the essential crouch nonstop, and a bear with the equivalent of a city-sized fortress between me and him. Ugh. 98.81.18.118 18:21, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
- I found Gunmar at Honeystrand Cave, also near Iverstead.Babette 03:45, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
It says in the Article that there are three locations on Soltheim, but it only lists two. Is this an error? And if not, what is the last location? Bookwyrm1357 (talk) 04:56, 13 May 2014 (GMT)
New Bug: npcs Stuck Behind Closed Gates[edit]
When I entered the fort, the 2 npcs you had to find were BEHIND the instantly closed gates. In order for the quest to continue, I had to use the "moveto player" command on them. This is on the PC version of course. --24.160.138.119 04:11, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
Cannot complete untill vampirism is cured.[edit]
If you're a vampire before undertaking this quest it cannot be completed untill you cure yourself. - may be worth adding to notes. — Unsigned comment by 86.138.15.150 (talk) at 18:52 on 25 August 2012
- Same happened to me, though when I cured myself I still could not start the quest. There is a workaround published on the Bugs section of the Bloodline quest; I copied the console codes to the bugs section of this quest. Zojj (talk) 18:24, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
Gunmar stuck on broken Honeystrand Cave[edit]
I have reloaded the save before going back to isran and fighting the vampires just to talk to him and getting this quest. Each time and so far each character i have played Dawnguard on sends me to this same cave. On my previous character I didn't enter this cave before getting this quest, my current character I have entered and cleared out all the bears. Gunmar keeps popping up by this cave though whenever I talk to Isran. And when we enter the cave the quest arrow hovers over a rock by the dead goat in the cave. There are only 2 bears in the cave and not 3 and I can't complete this quest. I have already cleared out Honeystrand cave so I'm thinking I might upload the before-talking-to-isran save again and then going into another hold and waiting for about a month or so and see if that fixes the cave if not I might have to uninstall dawnguard or something which I don't want to because I'm a full fledged werewolf now with all the perks. --67.185.108.121 04:25, 23 September 2012 (GMT)
Quest Completed, but no Dawnguard NPCs are recruitable as followers[edit]
On the followers section it says I can recruit the various Dawnguard NPCs as followers after completing this quest, yet the option is not available for any of them. Is this a glitch, am I doing something wrong, or is the information wrong? It's not that they say they can't join up with me, the option isn't available when I speak to them. --BAC 10/26/2012 — Unsigned comment by 75.170.57.38 (talk) at 22:09 on 26 October 2012
- Hmm, did you try immediately after finishing the quest? Sometimes there are weird conditions with things like this in the game where you have to actually leave the area and come back later for something to take effect. Also, have you done any further quests yet, or is this your most recent completed quest related to Dawnguard? — ABCface◥ 03:03, 27 October 2012 (GMT)
-
- I attempted right after finishing, example, I tried to hire Durak. I only see the dialog options to ask why he joined the guard and ask what work needs to be done. He directed me to Gunmar for work. I tried doing a job or two for Gunmar and started Prophet, traveled to Windhelm, rested 24 hours, came back and he still doesn't have any options for following me...
- Safe to say, however, he normally should join me at this point, so that IS correct. --BAC — Unsigned comment by 75.170.57.38 (talk) at 03:57 on 27 October 2012

- Okay, couple more questions. Have you tried any of the other Dawnguard followers? And is Serana currently following you? You may not even get the dialogue option if you have her as an active follower already. — ABCface◥ 04:07, 27 October 2012 (GMT)

Can't Find Isran[edit]
I entered the castle with the two NPCs. I have an arrow for Isram, but he does not appear. He tells me to follow him to interrogate a vampire, but I can't follow him b/c he's not there. I have tried moving away from the center circular hall, but the arrow stays in the hall. Any suggestions? Anyone have info on this bug? — Unsigned comment by 69.161.108.227 (talk) at 22:40 on 19 January 2013
- Isran is on the second floor, there is a terrace ringing the rotunda. Once the gates have opened, head down the right hand tunnel and take the stairs to the upper level. If Isran is not waiting for you, explore until you locate the torture chamber, Serana should be waiting for you there. If Isran still fails to appear, try speaking to Serana to force the next stage. Hope this helps! BlackSun (talk) 16:42, 1 October 2013 (GMT)
Bug Report of Sorts[edit]
So, I am unable to continue this quest. I am at the part where I have to help Gunmar fight the bear. Problem is, the bear is not in the cave. At all. The location it's given me is Clearwater Tarn. A possible reason is that one of Aela's Animal Extermination quests gave me the same one... Also there is a persistent troll spawn in that cave. So, not sure where the bug is but after waiting 30 days the troll respawns, but the bear... he's not in the cave and Gunmar just tells me to kill the bear. AbsolutgrndZer0 (talk) 09:12, 17 February 2013 (GMT)
WTF (completely broken DG questline on xbox)[edit]
Gunmar spawned at Pinepeak Cavern but I cleared that place long before I even had DG installed. The place has respawned so the bears are there to kill (one outside fighting Gunmar as I approach, and one more inside), but killing them (even watching and allowing him to kill them first) has no effect he just stands there afterward and keeps saying "We need to stop this creature before it kills again". I picked up the quest weeks ago and I was finishing up other quests first so now I have no previous saves to use and cant continue with the entire questline. 71.181.82.171 02:46, 2 September 2013 (GMT)
- Is there maybe a workaround or something that I'm not aware of, or am I just completely screwed? If not then does anybody know what console commands I would use to fix this on PC so I can possibly convert my save from xbox to PC and have somebody on the internet fix it for me? 71.181.82.171 02:46, 2 September 2013 (GMT)
- There are several things you can try, but be warned that any of these things may destroy your saved game, and cause you to lose progress. I recommend making a backup copy of your latest two saves on a separate device (a usb stick or copy them to the cloud.) I have listed these in descending order of theoretical effectiveness, i.e. try the top one first, if it doesn't work try the second, etc. etc. Good Luck!
- Perform a cache dump. This is done by heading to the dashboard, go to the system settings tab of the Guide, then choosing memory (highlight hard drive) and pressing Y. This function will clear all patches and system updates for all games, so you will need to re-download these before loading your saved game. A cache dump clears all "saved data" from memory, forcing the game to load from the disc, possibly correcting any corrupted data and maybe fixing the problem.
- Perform a cache dump, then uninstall and re-install the DG plugin, re-download all patches. Uninstalling the plugin may correct any corrupted data on the hard drive, if you have any. Note that this will break your save game, hence the recommendation to make a backup. You should not attempt to reload your save until after re-installation of DG and patching.
- If none of those things work, you can try uninstalling DG, reloading your saved game, saving again, then re-installing DG and going from there. Note, this action will cause you to lose all data from the plugin. This means any items you may have, any progress on quests, finished quests, etc. will be permanently lost. This should be considered a final effort in the event that the quest line is indeed broken. BlackSun (talk) 17:13, 1 October 2013 (GMT)

Dwemer Convector[edit]
Sorry, I thought there was only one dwemer convector where you find her, I didn't see another one, and I thought she and her satchel were always in the same spot.... Biffa (talk) 23:03, 12 October 2013 (GMT)
- The article doesn't really say exactly where to find her, I don't remember where I did. There are several Dwemer convectors around Skyrim. --Xyzzy Talk 23:33, 12 October 2013 (GMT)
- When you find her, she has lost her satchel containing dwemer gyros, and unless you pass a speech test, she won't go with you to Isram unil you give her one, or find her satchel. She's where she is looking for her satchel and knows she left it by the stream, she thinks mudcrabs must have taken it. She is stood next to a dwemer convector. She is stood down stream from Deep Folks Crossing, almost opposite Druadach Redoubt. Biffa (talk) 08:19, 13 October 2013 (GMT)
- We need to determine if this the only place she can spawn. The dialogue I found on CSList only says that she can be found in the Reach, and not precisely where. I'll run my new character through the questline to check it. It'd be nice if someone else could as well. --Xyzzy Talk 15:15, 13 October 2013 (GMT)
- It is the Dwemer convector northeast of Druadach Redoubt. But I don't think we need to specify the exact place,
we don't do it for Gunmar either. There is a quest pointer to her, more detail is probably not that helpful. Is there any reason to believe that her spawnpoint is random? I highly doubt it, since then the satchel position would need to be random too, or it wouldn't be near her. A bit of CK digging (haven't installed it at the moment) could probably verify that the spawnpoint is not random, but unless there is evidence to the contrary I don't think it is really necessary. And yes, I just did that quest, the directions worked perfectly for me. --Alfwyn (talk) 16:31, 28 November 2013 (GMT)- I see no good reason to NOT describe her location, and it's now a moot point, since RH just added it. --Xyzzy Talk 16:34, 28 November 2013 (GMT)
- Sorry, was on my way to take the dog out earlier and didn't notice the conversation. I agree that we should provide at least a general location. The Reach is a pretty big place. :) – Robin Hood (talk) 16:53, 28 November 2013 (GMT)

Sorine's Satchel may not necessarily appear on PC[edit]
If this is the case, but you really want to find the satchel rather than use the more viable alternatives, you can use the following console command: 'player.placeatme xx00f7ca 1', whereby xx is the position of your Dawnguard DLC in your loadorder. Cheers! -Deltahost (talk) 06:28, 17 March 2014 (GMT)
Possible bug[edit]
If you are a vampire and you return to Isran to complete the quest, he'll tell you to get yourself cured before coming back. I fus ro dah'ed Isran, and it completed the quest. The quest 'Prophet' started, telling me to follow him, but he won't talk, he just says 'get out of here, monster.'

Extra 'completed quest' in stats[edit]
The minute the vampires are spawned when you return to Fort Dawnguard at the start of this quest, +1 is added to the 'completed quests' stat (there is no notification of it other than checking the stats screen). Bamspeedy (talk) 03:14, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Isran becomes a vampire?[edit]
My little brother's playing the Switch version and Isran is a vampire when he is supposed to talk to him in A New Order. Still unkillable/essential.--172.58.102.194 00:52, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- Update: Reloaded an older save. Isran wasn't a vampire, what happened is that my little brother thought he was leading the group of vampires attacking the camp, and attacked him. --172.58.102.194 00:57, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
Bug Moved From Article[edit]
- Upon meeting Gunmar, if it is night, he may appear to be stuck in aggro against a non-existent foe and not allow you to talk to him. Wait until day if this happens and he should greet you normally.
I moved the bug above from the article to here, as it's highly unlikely that this is related to A New Order. NPCs being in aggro is moderately common, typically because of a somewhat distant foe or a slaughterfish that they're aware of, but the player isn't. The fact that it was night and fixed when it was day is also likely coincidental. Far more likely is that the unknown enemy either died or moved far enough away for Gunmar to settle down. – Robin Hood (talk) 15:27, 20 April 2019 (UTC)
Celann and Durak not protected[edit]
Both Celann and Durak can die fighting the vampires during this quest early on if you are not careful as they are not protected. They are not followers yet. In vanilla game they usually will survive as the vampires are a small group of 3 or 4 vampires. In modded game if you have mod to spawn more enemies, you will know they can die. Vori is always protected. — Unsigned comment by 115.134.160.255 (talk) at 07:10 on 16 August 2023 (UTC)
