Urzoga gra-Shugurz

Urzoga gra-Shugurz is an Orc warrior in charge of Cidhna Mine in Markarth. She is the sister of Mulush gro-Shugurz, who works the smelter outside the prison entrance.

In daily life, Urzoga watches the 'public entrance' to Cidhna Mine along with three other guards and will, starting at 8am, stand on the bridge leading to the enclosed chapter of the mine, drinking and eating. At 8pm she will either guard the cell door to the east or sleep in one of the available beds.

She wears a set of steel armor with either cuffed or shin boots and steel Nordic or Imperial gauntlets. She carries a leveled bow with twenty arrows (up to elven quality at level 20) and wields a leveled mace of the best possible quality. She also carries a steel shield, the key to Cidhna Mine and a belted tunic.

Dialogue[edit]

If you pay the mine a visit, Urzoga will approach you from the bridge above, shouting:

"Cidhna Mine's for prisoner scum only. Keep out."
Keep out? Why?
"This is a jail, owned by the Silver-Blood family. We use the prisoners to mine for ore. It's the most secure prison in Skyrim. Throw scum in, close the gates. No one gets out. So unless you're here to dig, you don't belong here."
You don't look like a guard.
"We're not. The Silver-Bloods pay our wage. Every man here is a trained mercenary."

On subsequent meetings she will say:

"I'm in charge of the prisoners here."
"No funny business. I'm watching you."
"You do something out of line, I'll put you down."

If you are arrested in Markarth, or when the guards frame you for murder at the end of The Forsworn Conspiracy, you will find yourself at the wrong side of the bars inside Cidhna Mine and Urzoga will be the first to greet you:

"All right, prisoner. Eyes front. You're in Cidhna Mine, now. And we expect you to earn your keep. There's no resting your hide in a cell in this prison. Here, you work. You'll mine ore until you start throwing up silver bars. You got it?"

Three options are available.

Option Dialogue
When do I get out? "You'll pay off your debt to the Reach. Just work and you'll earn your freedom."
Got it, ma'am. "Good."
I'm sorry. I'm a little deaf in this ear. "Don't get smart with me. I'm in charge. You keep it up, I'll have your toes cut off."

Regardless of your choice, she will call out:

"All right. Open her up. Now, you. Get down there."

If you manage to speak to her again before she walks off she will simply say:

"I said get down there. Now."

When the gate shuts behind you, she will leave the cell and get back to work near the entrance.

Unused Dialogue[edit]

In the game's DialogueViews files, there's quite a bit of unused dialogue meant for Urzoga to be found. All of it seems to be related to an earlier iteration of No One Escapes Cidhna Mine. You were apparently meant to be able to talk to her throughout your stay in prison. You would first speak to her after witnessing a scene where she kills the snitch Blathloc (an earlier version of/or name for Braig). If you tried to speak to her before she could do this, she would simply shrug you off by saying:

"I'm busy. Get out of my way."

However, after the deed is done, you could confront her, and she'd speak up:

"You must be the new snitch that Blathloc was talking about. I hope you're more useful than he was. I'll tell you the same thing I told him. I need to catch Madanach in whatever he's trying to pull. In the act."
You killed Blathloc. Why?
"Don't look so upset. Blathloc has murdered plenty of people. He deserved it. The only thing keeping him alive was his promise that he'd rat Madanach out. But now you're here to do that, so I put him down. Like the animal he was."
Why wait till then? I already know he's planning to escape.
"Look, I don't run Cidhna Mine, Nepos the Nose does. And he thinks I'm exaggerated [sic] when I say Madanach is dangerous. "He brings up the silver, who cares if he's up to something?" Nepos tells me. I'm sick of hearing his excuses. That's why I need Madanach in the act, hopefully with Nepos within viewing distance. You give me that, I'll make sure you get pardoned."

Upon exiting dialogue, she'd repeat:

"You let me know when we can catch Madanach red-handed."

You could then later ask her for the key to Borkul the Beast's cell, as he was meant to be locked up, and freeing him was one of the tasks Madanach would give you.

(Favor) I need the key to Borkul's cell.
"You want me to let that beast out of his pen? Forget it." (Failure)
"Take it, but if I see that madman gets out of line, he's going back in that cell with two broken legs." (Success)

No other dialogue for Urzoga remains, so it's unknown how her role would've further differed. However, Uraccen was originally intended to mention her by name in an earlier version of his guard-related question. No one ever mentions her by name in the final game:

Where are the guards?
"Aren't any. Besides Urzoga and her goons at the gate, we're all alone in this hole. They always keep one gate closed, and you can only open them from the inside. No way out but to serve your time."

Bugs[edit]

  • During No One Escapes Cidhna Mine, she was supposed to respond differently when you ask about when you will be released; however, the quest stages are set up incorrectly, so the line will never be heard: "You won't. The Jarl has ordered a life sentence for you. Get comfortable in the dark, 'cause you'll never see the sun again."
  • Killing Urzoga will cause you to be stuck in Cidhna Mine when jailed, whether during No One Escapes Cidhna Mine or otherwise (unless you have a Dremora Butler with both Borkul's Key and Madanach's Key in his inventory).
