Other Issue[edit]

Almost immediately after him approaching me on the street, he ran off and somehow got killed, similar to what seems to happen to Big Head

I have also had this happen to me. It makes the quest impossible to complete, and information on it would be appreciated. Does Clutumnus steal, or could it be from someone (an AI) accidently pushing him off the cliff that he often stands on? — Unsigned comment by 24.23.88.49 (talk) on 21 March 2009
Immediately after talking to him, I went into Ma'zaddha's house to advance the Lady of Paranoia quest. The guards caught me breaking in and arrested me. I paid the fine and immediately after the game reloaded, I got the Quest Updated message saying that Hirrus had died and I can get the key off his corpse. 69.243.160.57 00:12, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

She was right...[edit]

That Dark Seducer was right about that railing idea. I myself have accidentaly fallen from that ledge on several occaisions. --Darth NANAME 20:02, 28 December 2007 (EST)

The Guard there is also blind, they call it an accident when you push him off in front of her.
Maybe she doesn't care.

Feels Incomplete[edit]

I'm sure the folks at Bethesda have heard all about this one (it was even mentioned in the guidebook), but why is there no bloodless way to help poor Hirrus? I honestly thought when he said he wanted to be removed from all the agony, "Ooh! I can lead him back to Tamriel!" or "Well I bet I can help him with a warm smile and not a cold blade." Or at least lead him through the gate into Bliss... Why must Hirrus Clutumnus die or be ignored? Does anyone else even like playing as the charming, peace-loving Imperial? I just think if there was a way to comfort him without killing him, the quest would feel a lot more complete. As it is, the quest in my game remains unfinished, and I can't help but feel bad when I look up at his ledge. Mannius Mello 23:39, 27 April 2008 (EDT)

He had a ring of happiness and took it off because he didn't like it. I'm satisfied with saying "This guy was just too dumb to ever be happy. Quest over." 68.37.212.149 03:14, 8 May 2008 (EDT)
I don't know about dumb, but as a resident of the Shivering Isles, it can probably be assumed his mental illness was simply too severe to do anything about. Wearing the ring must've felt to him like being permanently on mind-altering drugs. I found it pretty sad, personally. --82.46.229.94 19:04, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
Sad indeed. Which is why I had hoped that I, the hero and savior of Tamriel, could make a difference. Especially with such a Speechcraft and Personality as mine. I guess even Champions of Cyrodiil can't reach everyone... Mannius Mello 21:30, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
Yes, it does feel incomplete. I did this quest without saving and after, read his will. After I read the Will I reloaded to my last save and tried to make friends with him, but it wasn't possible. So this quest will remain unfinished for me as well. (76.113.169.61 21:05, 7 August 2008 (EDT))
What does it really matter? It's just a game. It's not really like you're going to push some poor, helpless person to their death 50 feet below. It is funny what the Dark Seducer says, though.Oblivion nerd 22:30, 25 November 2008 (EST)
You're only helping him. If you wouldn't, he'd probably commit suicide, which isn't much better. Also, he's already crazy so travelling to Tamriel wouldn't help since they aren't very good at curing crazy people, remember the result for those who entered the Isles and then returned? They never went sane again... SwedishBerzerker at youtube.com 10:15, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
I think you should read the article as there's indeed a way to not kill him and still complete the quest.--BlackYoshi 17:58, 24 October 2009 (UTC)
Actually no, he won't commit suicide. He despises the afterlife of doing such an act, that's why he asks you to kill him. And game or not, I believe it is kind of a moral issue for people with average standards. However, the game should of made several options either to kill (for the heartless opportunists) or save the poor guy. I know I would have happily been his friend if that was the case. ~ Chuckalakala 13:43, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

"Unjamming" the Quest?[edit]

When you meet Hirrus by the sewer grate to initially hear his problem, you are given the option to respond 'I'm sorry, I can't help you out'. Answering as such will result in the quest staying active with the update "Hirrus Clutumnus has asked for my help, I've turned him down", and the marker staying on him. Unfortunately, unlike most other quests that can be delayed indefinitely with such an answer, speaking with Hirrus again at any time results in the "Best not to talk about it here. Meet me by the sewer grate near the statue." response. He will never return to the grate or converse with you normally, essentially "jamming" the quest.

Couldn't you use Command Humanoid on him? --Debatra 13:03, 28 November 2008 (EST)

Blessing of Mania - NO[edit]

When I try to use the blessing of Mania on Hirrus, he attacks a guard...runs away...maybe gets killed...but in the process a few quest people were killed and the whole town was in a rampage. I reloaded another save but why did the page even suggest using blessing of mania on hirrus? Enter Name Here 01:43, 14 March 2009 (EDT)

Happiness at last[edit]

If you look at his corpse, you'll notice he died smiling. --220.255.4.27 18:20, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

There should be a picture of that in the article.

Dead???[edit]

"Hirrus Clutumnus is dead. I'll never find out what he wanted". He wanted to die, so I can not understand why Bethesda used this as a journal entry. It makes sense for most quests, but not for this one. --Rigas Papadopoulos 14:04, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

It's for if he dies before he got a chance to tell you he wanted to do so. rpeh •TCE 14:30, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

You're right. --Rigas Papadopoulos 06:57, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Final resting[edit]

I had put off killing Hirrus and proceeded onto another quest. When I came back to Crucible he was dead. All I saw were bloodstains, a skull and bones at the bottom of the staircase leading to the palace grounds. I dont know what happened. There was no quest update and the quest remains active. How do I remedy this problem

Why doesn't the Dog Food work?[edit]

The sick, sick, person I am wonders why the Dog food from the "Terror" quest doesn't work with our suicidal friend. Handing off the actual death to his willingness to be devoured by a dog seems like a downright legitimate option, and with the hints of "that dog will attack ANYONE who has it's food" makes sense! — Unsigned comment by 68.45.128.103 (talk) at 19:55 on 21 June 2011 (UTC)

What exactly is the problem? Does the dog NOT attack Hirrus Clutumnus, or does his death end the quest prematurely? In either case, there's probably not much I can help you with ~ Dwarfmp 04:28, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
