Witchman Baircallas

Witchman Baircallas is a Reachman who can be found encountered around The Reach. He will be standing over the carcass of a dead animal and can perform some divination of the future with it.

Dialogue[edit]

When you approach, you can overhear him invoke Namira.

Witchman Baircallas: "Mighty Namira, what portents do you share …?"

You can then talk to him:

"Well, well. A carcass, a witchman, and an inquisitive traveler. Most auspicious.
If Namira bids humble me read the entrails for your fortune, who am I to refuse? But we must be quick — the gall is cooling quickly."
You read fortunes? Very well, tell me mine.
"You show bravery, wanderer. Namira offers no pity in her whims. What secrets show through this fetid offal are not merely tales.
The entrails tell us about many things the future holds — prosperity, conflicts, romance. What knowledge do you seek?"
You use animal entrails to tell the future?
"Not all gods speak in ways that mortal ears can hear. Some of the Reach learn the language of mistress Namira — written in rot and decay, bile and bone.
See here, these beetles chewing through this old goat's meat? They relay Namira's word to me."
Very well, tell me my fortune.
"You show bravery, wanderer. Namira offers no pity in her whims. What secrets show through this fetid offal are not merely tales.
The entrails tell us about many things the future holds — prosperity, conflicts, romance. What knowledge do you seek?"

You can then ask about three different things:

I want to hear about my future prosperity.
Tell me about future battles.
Tell me about future romance.

After choosing what you want to learn, Witchman Baircallas will begin reading the entrails.

Each start with the following:

Witchman Baircallas: "Let us see … what do these entrails reveal of Namira's grand designs for you?"
If you asked about future prosperity
Witchman Baircallas: "Inside the maw of the creature we find … the skull of a fawn, I believe. An easy meal, but one that claimed the life of this beast."
Witchman Baircallas: "Mistress Namira promises easy riches, but they will come at a cost. Take care, or that may be your life."
Witchman Baircallas: "What do the entrails show us? Hide bone, a few scraps ... it starved to death I see. An ill omen."
Witchman Baircallas: "Lady Namira does not promise riches. In fact you may die for the lack of them. A pity."
If you asked about future battles
Witchman Baircallas: "Scars across the hide and muscles—life was torment for this creature. Battle will be your undoing."
Witchman Baircallas: "You shall taste death many times, wanderer. The disapproval of mistress Namira has felled many, I fear."
If you ask about future romance
Witchman Baircallas: "My, my. The bile in the entrails has turned quite black with rot. A sickly creature … and a grim portent."
Witchman Baircallas: "The Lady Namira promises no riches to you—in fact, you may die for the lack of them. A pity."

He ends all his fortunes with:

Witchman Baircallas: "There you have it, stranger. The future that Namira intends for you. My reading is complete."

After your reading, you can speak with him once more before leaving:

"I have read the entrails' message to you truly, wanderer. Do not think you can change your fate with a second reading."
