Arrive at his camp in Martyr's Crossing and he'll say:

Scholar Indouz: "You there! Come."
"You don't look like a refugee. Are you a soldier come from the garrison? What news of the Imperial attack?"
Scholar Diel sent me to find you. She has a camp outside the garrison's walls.
"Oh? That's wonderful news! Cogline and I intended to head straight for Evermore, but the cursed Imperials caught up with us. They would have captured us if not for that Pyre Watch warrior.
Have you seen her? Is she alive?"
Haven't Found Cogline:
Found Cogline First:
I haven't. Scholar Diel said she was leading you toward Evermore.
"She was, but we ran into Imperials. The Pyre Watch warrior distracted the soldiers and ordered me to flee. Then, she took Cogline and headed west.
Please, find them. I worry for their safety."
I'll find them. Go to Scholar Diel's camp.
I haven't. Scholar Cogline said she was with you.
"She was! She distracted the Imperials and ordered me to run to this camp. Then she headed for the Crypt of the Exiles. A perfect place to shelter. Or set an ambush.
The Pyre Watch warrior is very brave. Will you please look for her?"
I'll go to the Crypt of the Exiles. Get to Scholar Diel's camp.

If the Bangkorai Garrison has been liberated from the Seventh Legion, you can then ask him more questions, if not, he will simply leave.

"I will go to Scholar Diel's camp now. We are most fortunate you came to our aid."
I came here for information about the Gray Host of the First Era. What can you tell me?
"Other than the fact that they were defeated here centuries ago, not much, I'm afraid.
I can tell you Empress Hestra's legions came to the aid of Bangkorai Garrison. That's why High Rock became part of the Alessian Empire for a time."
You must know something else about the Gray Host.
"Alas, you seek facts and figures that I don't have readily at hand. Perhaps when I can retrieve my papers from inside the garrison …?
You know, the Pyre Watch warrior might be able to help you. They're experts on the Gray Host of the First Era."

As you leave, he'll say:

Scholar Indouz: "I will return to Scholar Diel's camp. May Tall Papa guide your steps."

Back at Scholar Laurette Diel's camp, he'll greet you with:

"When the Imperials attacked, I resigned myself to whatever fate Tall Papa thought fitting for me. I am glad that you were part of that fate. I am not yet ready to leave the land of the living."

Talking to him before going to Viridian Watch:

"Be cautious. Viridian Watch is no place for the reckless.
Any location that might have provided sanctuary to the Gray Host, even centuries in the past, can only be evil. There will be darkness in that place, mark my words."
