I've been hired to defeat a nix-ox that has been eating mushrooms the wizard Bravosi Felder is attempting to research. I'm also required to collect samples of the mushrooms while in the area.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Beleru Omoril in the Hall of Justice.
  2. (Optional) Speak to Bravosi Felder.
  3. Kill Nilthog the Unbroken.
  4. Collect six Caldera Mushrooms.
  5. Return to Bravosi Felder.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Enter the Hall of Justice in Vivec City and ask Beleru Omoril if there's any work available. She can tell you about a job being offered by Bravosi Felder.

"Ever heard of the caldera north of Balmora? A rather nasty nix-ox has decided to nest there, and it has a craving for the strange mushrooms that grow in the ashy soil. Normally not an issue, but Bravosi Felder is attempting to research the fungus."
What do I need to do?
"Just get rid of the nix-ox and collect some mushroom samples. Easy. And don't bother asking me what he's up to—Telvanni wizard nonsense of some sort."

Your task is to kill Nilthog the Unbroken and collect six Caldera Mushrooms. Beleru also suggests that you talk to Bravosi for further information. Bravosi will tell you more about the unique mushroom samples he's after, as well as the nix-ox that has been confounding his research.

Travel to Nilthog's Hollow, a caldera located north of Balmora and south of Ald'ruhn. The caldera is inhabited by nix-hounds, and in the center is the nix-ox Nilthog the Unbroken. Nilthog is a Group Boss and can be a very challenging enemy to take down. During combat, it will spray acid and summon nix-ox nymphs.

Once you've defeated Nilthog, look around the caldera for mushrooms growing in the ground. After you've gathered six caldera mushrooms, return to Bravosi in Vivec City. Tell him the good news, and he will gratefully reward you.

"Any luck with that blasted nix-ox?"
I took care of the nix-ox and have the mushroom samples.
"Thank you, friend! You've done me, nay, the world, a huge favor today. I already know that the breakthroughs I'll make with these specimens will be talked about across the ages.
And I'll of course make sure to credit you in my dissertation."

  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
