Mazoga Vanished[edit]

I made sure Mazoga didn't die the whole time (I walked with her back to the castle) and I finished the quests and she just sat in the hall and didn't go to the lodge so I fast traveled there and waited for a while and she never showed up, I searched the road to see if I could find her body and what killed her and found nothing. She just vanished from the game. If anyone has a solution to this problem please tell me because I want her help killing black bows. I use Xbox360 and have not done Sanguine"s Rose. -Ethan 75.134.152.217 23:05, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

Check out this page for details on where she goes and when. Her body should still be around if she was killed. rpeh •TCE 09:55, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Mazoga showed up at the White Stallion Lodge after I had slept in a bed there. Not sure if length of time is relevant.98.224.130.142 05:06, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Marius Caro bug?[edit]

I don't know if any others came across this bug. But after starting the quest I got stuck at stage 2 of the quest.

Stage 2: "It seems that Count Marius Caro is concerned about an Orc named Mazoga at Castle Leyawiin. This Orc claims she is a knight.
Perhaps Marius Caro would welcome my aid in finding out more about her."

So, I did as the journal told me, and visited Marius Caro. Only to find out that there is no option of talking to him about this. Something that may cause this is the Allies for Bruma quest, but I'm not even that far in the main quest. Strangely, on my earlier character I did not have a single problem concerning this quest.

Does anyone know what may cause this bug? And if there is a fix for it other than console commands?

Thanks in advance. Omnislash449 17:22, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

Well, after six successful playthroughs of this quest, my seventh character has encountered this glitch too.

Unfortunately, I don't know of any solution outside console commands (which don't allow you to start the Knights of the White Stallion quest anyhow).

But what I'm more interested in is what's caused this bug. The only things I can think of with my more recent character are: 1) Because I confronted the Leyawiin Countess whilst she was on the road between Leyawiin and Bravil, and she was the one who initially assigned me the quest (well, either her or her bodyguard) 2) Because the first time I spoke to the Count is when he was in his room sleeping (I snuck inside), outside his normal visiting hours.

If anyone knows, please let me know. Silver Fang

Have you tried talking to Mazoga?

Fixed[edit]

I fixed this when it happened during a replay of the game. Generally, I used setstage MS91 a few times, when the Count wasn't cooperative. That stopped working at the end of the quest, when setstage MS91 100 completed the quest, but without a rewardand leaving the Count glitched out. He was still saying "I hope you've been successful?" before and "Prompt attention to this matter will be rewarded." after talking to him, as if he were in stage 2 (before all my manual uses of setstage).

To knock him out of that, I triggered the conversation topic (as found in Oblivion.esm), by just standing in front of him (not yet in the conversation UI) and using startconversation 00035333 servicetoLeyawiinTopic08. That prompted his verbal response to completing the quest, triggered the quest pop-up, gave the reward (fame), and finally opened up the Count's dialog to start the next quest Knights of the White Stallion.

What caused the bug in the first place isn't clear to me. I did notice that I spoke to the sleeping Count while sneaking his room, like Silver Fang mentioned above.

Moved notes[edit]

  • This is a good opportunity to obtain very strong armor. The higher level you are, the better armor Mazoga has. After you complete the quest, killing the Black Bow Bandits, killing Mazoga will let you take her armor, which is level dependent
  • Mazoga will follow you when you fast travel. So if you have problems with the will-o-wisps in the area, simply fast travel back to Castle Leyawiin.
  • After the quest, Mazoga can be found sleeping at the White Stallion Lodge. Pickpocketing her at this time or indeed when she is awake receives the response "Go ahead, didn't need it anyway". You do not incur a bounty or criminal record.

I've pruned these notes, feel free to re-add them with a just cause. --AKB Talk 07:14, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Moved Bug[edit]

For some unknown reason, if you travel ahead to fisherman's rock and Mazoga is still in town, and you travel back to town, she will spontaneously die.

Moved for sounding very one-offish. Mazoga is not essential, so it is understandable that she might just die from some unseen encounter. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 17:43, 17 November 2013 (GMT)

Fisherman's Rock dialog bug[edit]

This has been touched upon in some of the archived discussions, but I didn't see a definitive resolution and there is no mention in the article itself. You must avoid talking to Mazoga or the bandits upon reaching the camp; if you try to speak to her, she will brush you off ("Get out of my way!") and will immediately attack the bandits without first speaking to Mogens. If you talk to the bandits first, she will also immediately attack without speaking to Mogens. One of the bandits, a male Khajit, will immediately attack you. Mazoga can easily die in this fight, failing the quest, but if you defend yourself and kill the Khajit you will get a popup stating that YOU started the fight and Mazoga will be angry for not following orders. If Mazoga survives, she will immediately blame you for starting the fight ("What did you do?") and the quest will fail. The ONLY way to avoid all this is to (a) not speak to Mazoga on reaching the camp, and (b) not attempt conversation with any of the bandits. Once Mazoga speaks to Mogens and accuses him of murdering her friend, the fight will start and a popup will encourage you to participate; as long as Mazoga survives the fight, the quest will advance normally without failure (assuming Mazoga returns to Castle Leyawiin safely). 98.252.35.53 18:10, 4 April 2014 (GMT)

It's actually worse. Depending on something that is probably a combination of middling Fame, low Infamy, mid-range Personalty, and various faction reactions, I found that bandits would attack us on sight no matter what (with me blamed for it). I tried for over an hour, and could not trigger the normal quest progression, even leading Mazoga into the camp with me in Sneak mode with Sneak buffs, and over 100% Chameleon. The only solution was to fix it with the Console (to quest stages 60 then 80), after we fought it out with the bandits. — Darklocq  ¢ 20:38, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
If I fast travel directly to Fisherman's Rock with Mazoga, a fight immediately breaks out, ruining the quest. If I fast travel to Fort Redman with Mazoga, and run south to Fisherman's rock, the same thing happens. I think in this case it's because she has her weapon drawn after fighting mudcrabs at the fort. What ALWAYS works for me is to fast travel to either Ameilion's Tomb or to Nocturnal's shrine, run to Fisherman's Rock, and wait for Mazoga. She will stop at the edge of the camp. Then run over and stand right next to her, or even bump into her, nudging her in the direction of the camp, and she will resume walking toward Mogens and the quest will proceed correctly. 73.6.183.171 22:04, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

Combat Bug[edit]

Once combat began at Fisherman's Rock, two of Mogens Wind-Shifter's companions--I forget which two--ran in the direction of the lake but remained at the same altitude, essentially levitating until they were killed. Some sort of bug, I assume. -- Pemilligan (talk) 20:45, 21 March 2015 (GMT)

Pacifist method[edit]

I'm attempting a pacifist run through Oblivion, and was NOT able to successfully complete this quest without killing anything.

Obviously, the bandits have to die to complete the quest successfully. Unfortunately, I couldn't get them to fight each other even with Frenzy, and I had a hard time keeping Mazoga alive to kill them all by herself, so I had to get other (essential) followers to kill them and just accept her getting mad.
