Ritual[edit]

There's a problem with this page that I'm not sure how to resolve. Specifically, "Redguards have been known to practice a ritual to guide a loved one's soul to the Far Shores. This ritual requires that they know the position of the constellation The Serpent in order to guide the soul of the departed away from it." This information links a source that actually says nothing of the sort, but is a quest page where a woman wants to protect her son's soul from being caught by a necromancer; because her son's birth sign was the Serpent, she needs to know the constellation's current location in order to complete her ritual. So either the quest page is wrong or the Far Shores page is wrong (or needs to change its source, if there actually is a source for that statement somewhere). 99.127.173.78 21:56, 27 June 2014 (GMT)

I've actually now removed the reference to this ritual from the page. Here's the dialogue with Avik where you are told about it:
C: His mother is understandably upset at her son's death.
A: Yes, but it's not just that. Saban has not yet completed the burial ritual, although the lad has been in the ground for weeks.
C: I'm not familiar with Yokudan religion. Do they have lengthy burial rituals?
A: It's more serious than that, I'm afraid. His mother, Saban, needs to counteract the Soul Snare that N'Gasta has laid over the island.
C: Soul Snare? What do you mean?
A: Now that the Prince is dead, that foul worm has woven a magical snare across Stros M'Kai to feed his hunger for souls. Unless you are buried in consecrated ground, your soul will go straight to N'Gasta if you die. This is why Saban still fears for her murdered son.
The way I read this implies that the ritual in question is not any normal part of the burial process, and is purely being used to bypass the Soul Snare, rather than having anything to do with guiding the soul to the Far Shores specifically. As in, any person, of any race, who wanted to escape the Snare would have to perform a similar ritual, no matter what the ultimate destination was. If anyone can find any reference in ESO or something to this kind of ritual being a particularly Yokudan/Redguard thing, I'll gladly re-add it, but I think currently there's not enough evidence to say that this ritual is really related to the Far Shores specifically enough to list on this page. -- Hargrimm(T) 23:11, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
The ritual is definitely Yokudan and relates to their beliefs on the afterlife, but I agree that it was used specifically to escape the necromancer's snare and therefore isn't necessarily worth noting here. —Legoless (talk) 23:28, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
