Uldor was a powerful Maormer wizard who used to rule Khenarthi's Roost with the reign of terror. He learnt how to separate his spirit from his body, even in death. He was able to posses both alive people and corpses.[1] He was not limited to commanding one body and could "wear" hundreds of mindless forms at a time, even in his undeath.[2]

Although he could posses most bodies regardless of whether they were dead or alive he was not able to control the Vestige.[1]

History[edit]

Uldor's Tomb

At some point of the ancient history[3] Uldor governed the isle of Khenarthi's Roost with the reign of terror.[2] He used his magic to steal and wear the bodies of his victims, entrapping their spirits[2] and controlling their bodies against their will.[4] Among his victims were a crew of Nord raiders from Windhelm who attempted to loot the island.[5]

Eventually, his own people turned against him and aided the Khajiit of the Khenarthi's Roost. Uldor was eventually sealed within the Temple of the Mourning Springs along with his victims when the Khajiit received an artifact known as the Mourning Stone from the Maormer.[2] They put magical wards marked with the emblems of a scorpion and a spider[6] in order to seal the temple.[1] The endless supply of water provided by the artifact bound the spirit of Uldor to his body and made him unable to influence the world outside of the temple.[2]

In 2E 582 the Aldmeri Dominion scholars made an expedition to the Temple of the Mourning Springs. One of them, an Altmer named Ealcil, removed the Mourning Stone from Uldor's tomb in order to further examine it,[7][8] causing the spirit of the Maormer necromancer to briefly plague the island with the undead. Once the wards placed on the temple were removed one of his first goals was to kill the Aldmeri Dominion forces at Eagle's Strand,[9] an old Imperial fort built on the isle long time ago re-appropriated by the Dominion as a base camp after a devastating storm[10] in order to expand his collection of undead.[9] He planned to use the corpses of the fallen to overwhelm and enslave Khenarthi's Roost with an undead horde in quick attack,[2] but his plans were eventually foiled once the temple was resealed once again thanks to the assistance of the Vestige and the researchers.[1]

In order to seal the spirit of the Maormer again, a living vessel had to remain in the tomb in the temple.[1] It is unknown whether the person who let Uldor inhabit their body was the mage Rurelion or his Bosmer apprentice Gathwen,[1] but ultimately they were both saved from the grasp of Uldor with the aid of the Ealcil.[2][6][8] All the spirits of his former victims were freed from his magic and remained free to roam the temple grounds.[11][1]
