The Blackwater Blade is an ornate Cyrodilic steel longsword associated with the Blackwater Brigand pirates from Bravil. It bears an enchantment which drains the stamina of those it strikes, transferring it to the wielder.

History[edit]

Circa 3E 433, the Blade was in the possession of Selene, the leader of the Blackwater Brigands during their most daring heist involving the acquisition of the Golden Galleon, a legendary golden statuette. Ormil, the publican of the Bloated Float Inn in the Waterfront district of the Imperial City, spread a false rumor that he held this famous statue on his water-bound inn to increase business. This attracted the Blackwater Brigands, who vowed to obtain the Golden Galleon, fence it, and split the profit four ways. To accomplish this the Brigands hijacked the Bloated Float, held the publican and his bouncer hostage, and set off to sea to search for the treasure in peace and security. Little did they know that the Hero of Kvatch was asleep in the hold when they set off, and would awaken to foil their plan. The adventurer systematically killed the Brigands and freed Ormil and the bouncer, Graman gro-Marad. The only rumored survivor was Selene, leader of the Brigands, who surrendered the Blackwater Blade to the Hero and was incarcerated for her crimes shortly after the Bloated Float returned to the Waterfront.[1][nb 1]

Circa 4E 201, the Blade was in possession of Celeste, the leader of the remnants of the Blackwater Brigands. Formerly pirates, they were reduced to being land-dwelling bandits without a ship. Hearing of the tale of a grand seafaring vessel known as the Dead Man's Dread, the Blackwater Brigands sough out Blackbone Isle off the coast of Skyrim to recover it. Prior to making their journey to the isle, they camped out at the wrecked ship known as the Orphan's Tear, and were wiped out when the Last Dragonborn encountered them while similarly seeking the Dead Man's Dread. The Blade was then recovered from Celeste's corpse.[2]

Notes[edit]

  • ^  Selene's death at the hands of the player character is a possible outcome of the quest in Oblivion. However, Celeste's Note mentions an old Imperial woman speaking of the Golden Galleon, implying that Selene survives and refounds the group.
  • It is possible that the Blackwater Blade predates the foundation of the Blackwater Brigands; it was mentioned in ESO as the name of a PvP campaign.
