When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

Re-welcome!

I don't think I've ever seen anybody welcome themselves before. Congrats on being the first! Since you've indicated you're not sure what to do with your User Page, typically it's where you'd put all the stuff like the "I'm confused" message, and probably even the "My first edit" message. The talk page is usually used for messages from people who...well...want to talk with you. :) Now, that said, it's entirely up to you what you want to put where between the two, and as you can see on my talk page, amongst others, there's often notices, images, archives, or whatever else a given user wants to put there, typically followed by any communication from other users.
