Welcome[edit]

Hello Dr. Memory! Welcome to the wiki. I hope you enjoy using the site and find the information on it useful. If you decide you want to help improve any of our pages, we're always welcoming to new editors so feel free. You might want to look at our Getting Started page for some tips on how to begin, then play in our Sandbox for a while to practice. If you need any help or advice, please ask one of our mentors. Enjoy! –RpehTCE 14:47, 12 February 2008 (EST)

Show preview[edit]

Hi Dr. Memory! Thanks for the work you've been doing on the Arena pages. Just one small request--if you could make use of the "Show preview" button (next to the "Save" button) to preview a page instead of saving it several times in a row, it would really make things much easier for those of us who are keeping an eye on the site. Thanks! --Eshetalk13:48, 13 February 2008 (EST)

Eshe, I'll do my best. I'm sure you'll understand, though, that my priority is getting it right.

Great work![edit]

Thank you so much for the work you're doing on the Arena pages. If I can have one tiny quibble - the images you're adding... there's a parameter in the Quest Header template for image and description and it's our preferred way of adding images. Take a look at this to see what I mean. Thanks again! –RpehTCE 16:27, 18 February 2008 (EST)

I'll try to figure out what you're talking about.

Thanks for the Arena Information[edit]

Thank you so much for the information you have been adding to the Arena area of the site. It is an oft-neglected area and we need editors like you who have the game and can play it to improve our content. Please keep up the good work! –RpehTCE 18:50, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
Thank you, and my pleasure. I've been playing Arena since 1994, and have amassed quite a bit of information in my obsessive way. I've always wanted a place to put it to share it, and this Wiki should meet everyone's needs. I've still got more to add, though, so keep an eye out! --Dr. Memory 22:25, 9 March 2008 (EDT)

About Arena maps[edit]

Hi, Dr. Memory! I'm new here. I want to contribute to Arena sector of UESP, but i don'nt know where to start from. I have a concern about maps of places. You did really great job, these maps are good and helpful. But for example there is a map of Fang Lair, but no map for Stonekeep (and Stonekeep is static). Map for Labyrinthian, no map for Fortress of Ice and so one. If i knew how, i would provide these maps (=. But how did you make them? Just printscreening ang sticking together? Or extracted them?

Also, these maps are JPG, and it would be wa-ay better if they were GIF or PNG, i think. All in all, wish you good luck! --Sindikat 00:20, 20 May 2009 (EDT)

Sindikat, welcome to the Wiki! Good to see you from halfway around the world.
There are in fact maps of all the main quest dungeons. When you go through Arena's "Main Quest" section, you will see a narrative of the quest. The dungeons mentioned are all hyperlinked upon first mention to a map of the dungeon. (The way I originally wrote the pages, there were no maps on them, just hyperlinks to them; someone else added the maps themselves to the page.)
You guessed right; I made the maps by sticking together bitmap images I took via keyboard screen print copy-to-Clipboard.
The reason they are JPEG is because when I converted them to GIF or PNG, the colors were destroyed, they looked awful. Also there was very little savings in storage/bandwidth. It just wasn't worth the loss of fidelity. Dr. Memory 09:19, 20 May 2009 (EDT)
I see. May be it is possible to convert them to GIF or PNG withou loosing quality. (Maybe even try SVG format) If i have time, i'll go thru the game and also add maps of another static places such as Stonekeep or Fortress of Ice. Also, did ever try to hack into Arena game resources? extracting files or so? --Sindikat 12:08, 20 May 2009 (EDT)
Sinidkat, all the MQ maps are in there: Stonekeep, Fortress of Ice, etc., not just the Staff piece dungeons. Check the hyperlinks in the Detailed Walkthrough sections, you'll see them.
You might be able to convert the maps to another format and not lose quality, but the JPEGs are already quite small. For instance, the Fang Lair first level map is just 37Kb; that's nothing. It's probably not worth it.
I've never tried to hack the code. Dr. Memory 12:50, 20 May 2009 (EDT)
Ah, i was so stupid :D. Thanks! Now i get it. Maybe, let's put thumbnails to the articles themselves?
Also, saw your post on bethsoft forums. Loved that Dawkins quote. --Sindikat 13:18, 20 May 2009 (EDT)
No problem! Of course feel free to add thumbnails to the other maps if you like; I'd just request that you put them down with the existing thumbnails so as not to break up the narrative. Best regards, Dr. Memory 14:39, 20 May 2009 (EDT)

Hi again, Dr. Memory! In Arena:Save Games the first file (http://www.uesp.net/arena/files/cityda66.zip) doesn't work, needs to be reuploaded. --Sindikat 02:27, 23 May 2009 (EDT)

Hello, Sindikat. I must confess I did not put those there, so I know nothing about them. If the person who did it did it wrong, unfortunately there's nothing I can do. Sorry! Dr. Memory 15:09, 27 May 2009 (EDT)

About the Arena's Ebony Tower Shield of Levitation[edit]

Hi, sorry for bothering you of something of old you posted back in March 5, 2008(https://en.uesp.net/w/index.php?title=Arena:Tower_Shields&diff=prev&oldid=257541), but the location for the Ebony Tower Shield of Levitation is incorrect. While another member fixed it from Riverhold to Riverfield years ago, it is still the incorrect place, for the shield wasn't in the The Adventurer's Sundries store in Summerset Isle. The actual thing I'm sorry I'm bothering you about is the edit summary you put down when you added the shield & other shields to the list, "added beau coups items". What's "beau coups"? Was that whom you got the list from or something? Sorry the bother, just looking for more info before going on a wild goose chase of something probably doesn't exist in a equipment store. Never mind, ignore this. The reason it wasn't showing up for me for I was using a Ranger character. lol I forgot the part on the Classes page that Rangers highest shield they can use is kite.
