With the new reforms brought on by Arch-Mage Traven it has become increasingly difficult for new members to enter the Arcane University. Indeed as a result we have seen far fewer and fewer apprentices joining the guild these passing months.

However, despite the lack of numbers, those who have been joining recently seem to be hardier and more earnest than any of us here have come to expect.

Traveling all across Cyrodiil, visiting our brothers and sisters, has toughened and wizened these new recruits in ways many veteran guild members have yet to experience. The journey has whittled away the scoundrels and corrupt knowledge seekers. For new apprentices stepping on University stones for the first time it comes with an earned respect from all of us who joined under much lesser circumstances.

It has succeeded in may ways beyond what any of us could have hoped for and as Traven has pointed out, spies within our ranks from this growing cult of Necromancers is non existent because of it.

While there have been a number of gifted students entering the Arcane University there is one associate who has stood out from among the others in my opinion.

The reason I take the time to make note of her in my personal journal is because the amount of attempts on her life thus far is astonishing. The dangers that have presented themselves would shy away men of lesser mettle and yet she proceeds forth with a pace others can barely keep up with.

By coincidence her objectives for earning recommendations have been unorthodox to say the least but she has preformed admirably. Each letter of recommendation I have received has shocked and often required immediate action on my part to prevent such dangerous events from occurring to other associates. In my twenty year tenure here in the guild I have not seen some of these outrages expected of an associate for a mere recommendation.

Each one has come back lavishly complimentary. I will detail them briefly for the simple reason that I feel that this soon to be apprentice is going to have an important impact on the guild for years to come.

In Chorrol, Teekeeus declared her instrumental in obtaining an ancient tome as part of his research in Ayleid magic.

Kud-Ei of Bravil told me how she managed to resolve a small problem between guild members in her hall and that she even travelled here to Imperial City willingly in order to resolve the issue. She didn’t divulge too much for privacy of others but she assured me that the amount of delicacy Silvia used in this matter of intrigue is quite impressive.

In Anvil, Carahil assigned her to assist battlemages Roliand Hanus and Arielle Jurard in an undercover mission to catch a rouge mage. Normally Carahil would know better than to place an associate in such a dangerous position but her decision came out of both desperation and a strong feeling of confidence in Silvia. After Carahil’s recommendation I received an additional message from Arielle proclaiming that Silvia had defeated the rouge mage before she and Roliand could even take action. Witnessing everything, Arielle began to describe in detail the natural spell casting ability of this associate who was supposed to be in over her head. It is good to know Carahil still has an eye out for talent.

Mara help me, Adrienne in Skingrad of course wrote her recommendation as an afterthought and misspelled Silvia’s name each time. She also forgot to mention what the assignment was. Fortunately, a second letter arrived from Erthor which was most helpful. Knowing Adrienne, he explained the task of retrieving him for research notes and the small trouble of fighting through a hoard of zombies to reach him. Utterly grateful he listed her advanced skill in destruction magic and seemingly calm courage in a bad situation.

I sent an angry response to Adrienne reminding her that if she doesn’t take the time from her studies to manage her hall properly then she is very well in a position to lose it. I also sent an inquiry to Erthor as to why he was in a cave full of zombies. He replied back stating that he was working on a spell to help combat the undead used by Necromancers. Apparently the spell backfired and the zombies turned hyper aggressive. I’ve sent someone to investigate the legitimacy of his claim under the guise of assisting his research and to keep an eye on how Adrienne is running things.

Things in Bruma weren’t so troublesome fortunately. Jeanne Frasoric gave a colorful and optimistic recommendation. Of course she too failed to mention what the assignment was. What Jeanne did manage to include was half a page worth of compliments toward me before requesting again, that Volanaro and J’skar be transferred to another hall. What Ocato saw in her I’ll never understand.

Dagil gave me an honest and disturbing turn of events in Leyawiin. She suffers from a prophetic condition that was once of great use to the Mages Council but has since weaned in her elder years. It is something that has been kept quite from most outside the Leyawiin hall and of little concern until recently.

Dagil, thinking her special amulet needed to help keep her thoughts in focus was lost, sent Silvia to retrieve her father’s from his tomb. Upon entering the abandoned fort he was laid to rest in, Silvia found that it had been claimed as a base for a band of marauders. Not even hesitating or bothering to go back and inform the Legion she simply dispatched the band herself. We were not given full details on the cleanup afterwards but this was no small group and they most certainly were not amateurs. In fact the Legion asked us for Silvia’s name so that they may commemorate her for the service she has preformed for Cyrodiil. Apparently the marauders were causing trouble in the area and the Legion was having trouble tracking them down.

As astonishing as it may seem that is not even the full story. Upon entering the tomb of the fort Silvia was confronted by Kalthar. He revealed himself as the thief and his plan to discredit Dagil in order to remover her as Arch-Magister of the guild hall. A battle ensued and Kalthar was killed. Silvia earned her recommendation and Dagil was most grateful.

I was most disheartened by this news however. Like many others, I believed Kalthar to be a fine example of reform when he renounced Necromancy and did not leave the guild like so many others. So far no connection has been made between him and the marauders. The only more troublesome news was that from Cheydinnhal.

When Deetsan informed us of Falcar’s murder Vidkun and his attempt at Silvia’s life the Mages Council was in an uproar. We argued and yelled far longer than men and women our ages should have. The fact that such a high ranking guildmate could be a traitor for this growing cult of Necromancers sowed panic amongst us. Upon further investigation two black soul gems were discovered in his quarters.

A warrant for Falcar’s arrest has been issued by the Legion and all the guild halls have been informed of his actions. His current whereabouts are unknown and we fear the worst for what this could mean. Deetsan has been promoted to Arch-Magister of the Cheydinnhal guild hall and Silvia Rueheart is finally on her way to Imperial City. Her place here at the Arcane University is well deserved and we are all anxious to meet her.
