Varos

Varos is a Dark Elf Spellsword and the Ancient of the Orlukh Clan, although he was formerly a member of a clan he describes as "long forgotten". He makes his nest in Romayon's library, which is connected to the Orlukh stronghold of Anbarsud via a tunnel. Unless you are a vampire yourself, Varos will be hostile towards you, and at level 60 will prove a formidable opponent. He is the target of both the Tribunal Temple quest Trial of the Saint and the Baluath Clan quest Slay Orlukh Ancient, and will be killed during the course of these missions.

Varos has a cordial relationship with those of his clan, who are largely former Orc members of the Imperial Legion that followed their commander, Orlukh gro-Othmog. Varos describes the events that led to the clan's formation thusly:

"Orlukh was the first mortal able to survive combat against me. When he later succumbed to my curse and became as I am, we forged a truce and have coexisted peacefully since."

The relationship between the two seems friendly enough, and Varos will even assist Orlukh and you in bringing down Tholer Andas during Termination Notice. In Namira's Shroud, Varos later passes over leadership of the Orlukh entirely to gro-Othmog, taking the time before his final departure to examine the records of his old, apparently extinct clan, in Vhul:

"I was hopeful that I would find some trace of my clan, but according to Temple records, I am the only surviving member. I prepared myself for this possibility, and was able to pay my respects. Thank you, %PCName. Take back the Shroud, and let me teach you this spell as payment for its lease. Tell Orlukh the clan is in his hands now. He is a strong leader, and doesn't need me looking over his shoulder anymore. May we meet again someday."
