Marki the Shark swims with the fishes

Marki the Shark is a Nord pilgrim and a senior negotiator of the East Empire Company. While he maintains a private office in the East Empire Company building in Old Ebonheart. As of the time of your first day on the job at the East Empire Company office however, Marki has been missing for some time.

This is a fact that distresses a number of the employees, as Marki appears to be immensely popular. To Cassynderia Lys, Marki's "a killer" - an unstoppable negotiator, who with Mette Black-Briar's help was capable of robbing "those Briricca bastards blind". She describes him as the company's lodestar, while to Zenurie Mondette, he is the best the Company has. Therefore, Cano is quite keen for you to discover his whereabouts during the events of Follow the Money.

It transpires that Marki has (with the Company's knowledge) been running a network of secret merchants under the nose of Indoril Ilvi, all of whom are outcasts (often of Ashlander origin) in Indoril society. This has permitted the East Empire Company access to trade in Ilvi's lands where it would otherwise be forbidden - a trade that Cano is very keen should never come to Ilvi's ears.

By making direct contact with the Velothi underclass of Ilvi's lands, Marki has enabled a to-and-fro where they can sell for more than they would otherwise receive from their Indoril lords, and the company can buy at a far reduced rate. However, Marki appears to have outrun his luck in this venture, and his corpse can be found floating in the river outside Rilsoan.
