Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Ask Hartise in Helnim's Guild of Fighters, about orders and contracts from Master Darythi.
  2. Speak to Rethyn Verelnim in Helnim's prison and either:
    • Unlock his cell door and escort him out.
    • Give him the key to his cell door for an additional reward.
    • Bribe the guard, Roljir, to let Rethyn go.
  3. Go to Assurbalhet and kill Neloreth Selyn.
  4. Report back to Hartise.
  5. (Optional) Return Nisa Darythi's two pieces of correspondence for an additional reward.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

It appears that regular customer of the Fighters Guild, Nisa Darythi, has had a change of heart over the advisor he had you jail in Capture Rethyn Verelnim. He now wants the mer freed from prison in Helnim, and Hartise is not too concerned about the particulars of how this is done. She'll also inform you of another request from Nisa Darythi - that Rethyn's rival, Neloreth Selyn, be killed in his tower of Assurbalhet. You can pursue these requests in either order.

Assurbalhet[edit]

"The route to Assurbalhet's a bit long and confusing. First follow the road east out of town through Tel Gilan, and turn left at the fork. Follow the road northwest until you get to another fork at the cave of Yenidan, and follow the dirt side-path leading southeast. Follow that path through and past the dwarven ruin of Mzankh, which I'll mark on your map. At the very end of the path, you'll find the entrance to Assurbalhet." - Hartise on Assurbalhet

As Hartise says, Mzank is marked on your map. Head there, and find the entrance to Assurbalhet a few steps to the north of the ruin's northernmost bridge. You'll need to proceed through Assurbalhet and kill the hostile wizard, Neloreth Selyn. You may also wish to pick up the Note to Neloreth Selyn on the table on the top floor, as this unlocks an additional quest reward if paired with the note collected during Capture Rethyn Verelnim.

Freeing Rethyn[edit]

Helnim's Prison Tower is on the west side of the city. Speak to the guard, Roljir, inside. You should ask him to release Rethyn Verelnim. He'll say that he's not convinced, but a simple bribe (even 10 gold can suffice) will be enough to change his mind.

You may alternatively speak to Rethyn Verelnim on the next floor up about the out of prison topic. He'll ask you to secure his release somehow. You'll need to unlock his door with magic. Once the door is open, ask Rethyn to travel together, and make an exit with him following (if Roljir is still alive, you're better off leaving via the floor above Rethyn's cell). You can also take the key to the door from Roljir's body (dead or alive), and giving this to Rethyn will see him invite you to his tower, Yaztaramz, for a special reward - a Dwemer warhammer named Verelnim's Present. You can only collect this reward after the completion of this quest.

Regardless of how you spring Rethyn, once outside, your journal will update, completing this section of the quest. If you have already killed Neloreth Selyn in Assurbalhet, report back to Hartise for your reward.

Bonus Rewards[edit]

After collecting your 1,000 gold from Hartise, you can proceed to collect additional rewards if you have unlocked them. This includes Verelnim's Present from Rethyn Verelnim in Yaztaramz, if you gave him the key to his cell. If you collected both the Note to Neloreth Selyn in Assurbalhet and the Note to Rethyn Verelnim in Yaztaramz, you can supply both of these to Master Nisa Darythi in Tel Gilan by using the topic contracts from Master Darythi. He will take the notes from you, and grant you Darythi's Ring of Lunacy in return, expressing the desire that his little mix-up of exactly who he wanted arrested never ever get out.

Notes[edit]

  • This quest used to be named Change of Heart.

Bugs[edit]

  • In the 22.11 release, the Helnim Prison Cell Key found on Roljir does not actually unlock the prison cell door - you have to give it to Rethyn instead.
