Atriban Deras

Atriban Deras is a Dark Elf Alchemist and the owner of a store in Arvud. His friend, Llaals Sathrobar, has lately become concerned by his lack of appearances lately, and will ask you to check in on him to see if he is alright.

In truth, Atriban is not alright at all - a curse has transformed him into a Shalk. It is not a situation he is very happy with, and he will ask you to speak to the mabrigash he believed put a curse upon him when he freed Llaals from her clutches.

Depending on your actions, Atriban can either be doomed to live as a shalk forever (in which case he will be suicidal without your intervention), or returned to merhood. Even when restored to elf-form, it is clear that his experience has not left him entirely unscarred:

"Moving my limbs now feels really different. So does talking. My time as a shalk completely changed me."

It is possible to undo Atriban's curse without ever meeting him, by slaying the mabrigash, Ashvubabi Bishmalkit. In this case, entering Atriban's shop will cause him to rave about having turned into a shalk and back, but without any evidence that the event occurred.
