Anvil is the mightiest port city of the Abecean, and the western gateway of Cyrodiil to the wider world. Its picturesque streets and gleaming temples make Anvil not just a vital trade port, but a destination for travelers seeking recreation and worship.

Any casual reader of history will surely be aware of Anvil's noteworthiness as a center for naval endeavor. Today the city retains this distinction as host to Fort Telodrach, home port of the Empire's West Navy. Alongside the Imperial shipyards lie even more public docks, servicing trade from a hundred ports on Tamriel and beyond. Besides the company warehouses and Imperial facilities in the Harbor District, travelers may find a warm bed at the West Wind Lodgings inn. The famous statue of Fasil Umbranox, heroic admiral of the All Flags Navy, can also be found here.

Further inland from the Harbor District lies the Canal District, home to several more fine establishments, including the Floating Bowl Inn, the Sailor's Fault Tavern, and the Spearmouth Inn. A number of local homes and businesses can also be found here. For travelers seeking a stay in Anvil on a budget, the Canal District is the place to be.

The Marina District forms the bulk of central Anvil, and is where the great Guildhalls cluster around the terminus of the mighty Gold Road. Members of the Fighters, Mages, and Painters Guilds will find facilities here, and non-members may take advantage of these institutions' services. Travelers are encouraged to visit the Imperial Census and Excise Office in the Marina District, and to check in at the Harbormaster's Office if arriving by sea. People of faith are encouraged to pay a visit the beautiful Temple of the First Breath, a towering shrine dedicated to Morihaus.

For wealthy travelers, Anvil's Marina District hosts an infinite number of worldly pleasures. The Abecette Casino is known throughout western Tamriel for its glamor and style, and the fine Count's Arms Inn provides luxurious accommodations in the very heart of Anvil. Most of the city's businesses are also found in the Marina District, and an enterprising visitor may find almost any goods imaginable in the numerous markets and shops.

The most beautiful part of Anvil, however, is undoubtedly the Garden District. Delicate floral arrangements line the cobbled streets surrounding the illustrious Temple of Dibella, the very center of that lovely Divine's faith. Many fine manors line the streets of the Garden District, which also hosts the city's Praetorium.

Finally, across the bridge from the Garden District sits the resolute Castle Umbranox, guarding the mouth of the Strid and all western Tamriel as it has for centuries. Castle Umbranox is home to the Countess of Anvil, Millona Umbranox, the Lord Protector of the Gold Coast.

Region Information

Anvil is surrounded by water on three sides. To the west lies the gentle Abecean Sea. To the south, the Strid River forms Cyrodiil's border with Valenwood Province. Along Anvil's eastern walls, the Petty Strid runs tributary to the Greater Strid. To the north, a narrow isthmus connects the city to the greater Gold Coast.

Gold Coast

The southern two-thirds of Cyrodiil's western coastline is known as the Gold Coast. Between the Kvetchi foothills far to the east and the sea, the foliage, landscape, and sunsets all aptly do justice to the region's name. Gentle hills and rolling fields abound, and aside from the mighty promontory of the ancient Ayleid ruin Garlas Agea, there are few impassable landforms to impede travel in any direction. But the calmness of the region should not fool the eyes; the Gold Coast is rich in natural resources as well as scenery. The Empire's most vital iron mines are guarded by the Legion garrison at Fort Strand, while the fertile terrain is exploited by many prosperous farmers.

The Gold Coast's western and southern edges are inhabited mostly by rural fisherfolk, such as in the village of Thresvy. But these lands are old, and long-inhabited. A careful traveler may find their bearings by the old Reman coastal fortresses of Olomachus and Thraswatch, now crumbling into dust alongside the far older Ayleid citadel called Lindasael. To the north, along the edge of the Gilded Hills, the town of Brina Cross thrives on an important trade route: the Gold Road.
