Magic spells can be cast at the cost of magicka by pressing 3. Only one spell can be readied for casting at a time. The ready spell can be selected from the list of known spells in the Adventure Menu or toggled by pressing 5.

Some classes start with known spells, but usually they must be learned by reading scrolls which are found in treasure chests and dropped by enemies. To learn a spell from a scroll you must be at least rank 1 in the associated skill. If your class does not begin with that skill it can be learned from a skill trainer NPC.
