Blade?[edit]

I don't think everyone gets The Blade of Whiterun, I got an Axe of Whiterun. Anyone else got a two-handed axe? Fin Dova Feyn 10:37, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

i just checked in my loot stash and couldnt find either (im shocked, i always keep unique items) but im almost entirely sure i got the sword, amazing because i use a dual axe combo. (Eddie The Head 10:59, 21 November 2011 (UTC))
You definitely can get an axe I have it up on my wall right now. Here's my guess at what happens: it checks your two-handed vs one handed and gives you an item depending. I use magic so both skills were the same, it defaulted to the axe. - 174.93.85.72
I also got an Axe of Whiterun. -Nikomis 15:45, 21 November 2011 (UTC)
I dont think skill level has any say on what you get. I am certain that my one-handed was higher than my two-handed. Fin Dova Feyn 09:32, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
I got a one-handed Axe of Whiterun with a demoralize humanoid enchantment on it. Gideon Dragontongue 21:14, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

() I also got a one handed Ace of Whiterun, and, according to the Skyrim wiki at www.elderscrolls.wikia.com, the item is supposed to be an axe. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Axe_of_Whiterun#

I have both. I got the Axe the first time, then after completing the civil war for the Stormcloaks I was able to become Thane again, where I received the Blade.--Affubalator 05:44, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

... and my "Blade of Whiterun" was an iron mace doing 18pts magicka damage. I'm at lvl 43 and have completed the quests that obtain thane-hood and Lydia and subsequent thane-hood under new Jarl, Grey-Mane. — Unsigned comment by 60.226.84.24 (talk) on 9 April 2012
I think Axe of Whiterun is the reward from Balgruuf, Blade from Vignar. --Morrolan (talk) 21:13, 8 March 2013 (GMT)
The Axe is a reward for completing Dragon Rising, however there is a bug with that quest which can sometimes prevent you from actually receiving the reward. This quest rewards the Blade of Whiterun. It is entirely possible that you can receive both the axe and the blade. Jeancey (talk) 00:30, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

bug with quest never starting: you get the house, but no axe or lydia[edit]

I remember hearing the "you will be allowed to buy property" line, but I wasn't in the mood for Cutscene Blather so I wandered off, so the bug might be there. It might also be that since I had all the money needed for the house and all the upgrades, I just bought everything at once. But I think it's that I did it *before* Dragon Rising, so it decided that since I already had the house the quest script must have been repeating, and aborted it. Aliana 12:00, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

I started the dragon rising quest, purchased and upgraded my house before slaying the dragon. When I returned I got Lydia but no axe.

Blade of Whiterun[edit]

Everybody receives the Axe of Whiterun at the beginning of the game. (SPOILERS !) You only receive the Blade of Whiterun from the second Jarl of Whiterun after you follow the Stormcloaks questline. Actually, I'm level 47 and I just realized that I needed to be reinstated as Thane of Whiterun. So, I went and saw the Jarl who gave me a second weapon (the Blade of Whiterun) which is quite frankly, exactly what I was wanting to purchase (at an exorbitant cost ^^). On mine, at level 47, the effet was Banish : for Dremora level 20 and lower. (I need it, since enchanting rings and necklaces with Banish is extremely cost-effective.) — Unsigned comment by 65.92.135.33 (talk)

Becoming Thane twice[edit]

I noticed that after the battle of Whiterun (Stormcloaks campaign) and the replacement of the Jarl I had to become Thane again. I already had Breezehome and Lydia as housecarl and needed to start the conversation to become Thane again with Vignar Gray-Mane. --24.132.213.61 01:27, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Breezehome bug[edit]

Are we sure that's a bug? The requirement for buying Breezehome if Balgruuf is still jarl is completing Bleak Falls Barrow, which is before Dragon Rising in the quest sequence. If Vignar is jarl, simply completing Battle for Whiterun for the Stormcloaks is enough to buy Breezehome. Just buying Breezehome after doing Bleak Falls Barrow doesn't make you thane and doesn't give you Lydia, and there's no reason why it should. --Morrolan (talk) 19:34, 8 March 2013 (GMT)

Dragon Rising[edit]

It's not a completely different quest; it's one of the two ways to become Thane of Whiterun, which this page describes. --Morrolan (talk) 01:34, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

I said completely differentish. The Axe is a reward from completing that quest, the blade is a reward from becoming thane. Technically speaking, they are two different things, related, but different. Jeancey (talk) 01:54, 9 March 2013 (GMT)
Blade is the reward from becoming Thane if Vignar is Jarl. Axe is the reward from becoming Thane if Balgruuf is Jarl. --Morrolan (talk) 18:40, 10 March 2013 (GMT)
Looking at the code, you receive the blade from becoming thane, and the axe from completing dragon rising, there is no difference which jarl it is. There IS a known bug causing some people to not receive one of them. That may be what is happening. Jeancey (talk) 18:42, 10 March 2013 (GMT)

Minimum befriending after Battle for Whiterun[edit]

I just ran a test where I went with Hadvar in Unbound, then straight through Dragon Rising, did not complete Golden Claw, and then went straight for the Battle for Whiterun and then asked Vignar for the thane quest. He's registering me as having assisted 4/5 citizens. I think the four befriended citizens are Alvor and Sigrid, plus two more - maybe Delphine, maybe Hadvar, maybe Ralof. I don't know if it's possible to get to this point with fewer than 4 befriended citizens. --Morrolan (talk) 02:27, 9 April 2013 (GMT)

Apparently Olfina is a friend. She showed up at my wedding anyway. Possibly the four are Alvor, Sigrid, Olfina and Brill, or some other Greymane? Anyway if it's the two friends from Before the Storm plus the two friends from Battle for Whiterun then four would definitely be the minimum at this point. --Morrolan (talk) 11:39, 10 April 2013 (GMT)
