Outfit[edit]

Seems like a minor point, but does anyone know what boots Aren is wearing? I've just got my AM robe, but I don't have any boots that look right with it - yes, fashion-consious... — Unsigned comment by 80.229.165.55 (talk) at 16:41 on 29 September 2012‎

He's wearing plain old boots—specifically the ones with this ID: 0007c92e. They can be found in the Arch-Mage's Quarters. eshetalk 21:57, 29 September 2012 (GMT)
Thanks; do you know if they're available without an enchantment on them? I'd like to add my own but they'll be destroyed once I take the enchantment off... — Unsigned comment by MrMoose (talkcontribs) at 22:21 on 29 September 2012‎
No, there is no version without enchantment, sorry. And the only other boots with the same look aren't avilable at all. --Alfwyn (talk) 21:20, 2 October 2012 (GMT)

Savos speaks Dragon?[edit]

The dialogue from Morokei in Labyrinthian seems to imply that Savos is able to understand and even speak the Dragon language. Hence Morokei, before he realizes that you're not Savos, greets you in the Dragon language. This shows that at least Morokei believes that Savos can understand him. Since they've met before, it's logical to assume that they conversed in Dragonese - otherwise Morokei would've already known that Savos doesn't speak it, and just started out using English (or Tamrielese, or whatever this guttural language is called). You know, I never made the connection. Well, no one did apparently. The second time he speaks in Dragonish/ese, he calls you a "cowardly man", which is rather obviously directed toward Aren. The "old friend" always bugged me though; obviously Savos isn't 3000 years old, but he himself tells you that the skills you learn at the College might serve you several life times, and there's no clear indications about when it all happened. According to what we know all they did was get to the Labyrinthian, oblivious to the dangers behind the doors, and when they met Morokei, Savos enthralled his friends and fled. Yet Morokei knows his name, and speaks as if he know him personally. I know this is just nitpicking, but it's odd. On the other hand, how would he have learnt the Dragon Language? With the Greybeards? 90.11.117.46 15:11, 15 February 2013 (GMT)
Savos Aren could easily be several thousand years old. There is no evidence to suggest otherwise. In Morrowind, Telvanni wizards were regularly thousands of years old, particularly Divayth Fyr who was 4,000+ at the time of Morrowind. Jeancey (talk) 15:15, 15 February 2013 (GMT)
It's unlikely though, as he mentions that he was an apprentice when Artaeum vanished 100 years before the events of Skyrim. It suggests that was in his youth, making him more likely to be a few hundred years old. --Jimeee (talk) 15:47, 15 February 2013 (GMT)
What a Dunmer defines as his "youth" may still be pretty old by human standards. I seem to recall a character in Morrowind who was like 200 years old or so but still considered himself to be relatively young. Though I think his line about "several life times" is less related to elven longevity and more to those who use magical arts to prolong their lives. E.g. the Augur of Dunlain, or any of various other (mostly evil) mages you meet in the game who have lived longer than normal through various forms of necromancy, etc. That aside, though, we do know for a fact that Savos and Morokei met at one time, and we can guess from Morokei's reaction that they were able to converse in the Dragon language at the time. Anyhow, one doesn't have to be Dragonborn or study with the Greybeards to learn the Dragon language. One would imagine that anyone who puts in the time to study it could figure it out. There's even a book in the game about it, which probably can be found in the stacks at the Arcaneum. If you're a career academic like Savos, you'd probably learn a lot of stuff like that over the years. TheRealLurlock (talk) 23:47, 15 February 2013 (GMT)
Looking at Morokei's dialogue, it is likely that Morokei only assumes that, or tries if, Savos Aren speaks Dragon Language. Only after two Dragonic lines will he ask whether the adventurer even is Aren. Much later he will find out that he isn't. So, that dialogue really doesn't tell us whether Savos Aren really can speak Dragon Language or not. What comes to the "old friend" part, it could only refer to their last (and first) meeting, being an ironic comment. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Aren's actual age. The only thing we know for sure about Aren's age is that he was an apprentice "in his youth" 100+ years ago when Artaeum disappeared, whatever that "youth" might be. This visit to Labyrinthian supposedly happened around that time as he wasn't even leading the expedition, hinting that he wasn't yet a senior member in the College but more likely something akin to an apprentice.
