Permanent Effect?[edit]

Due to the spell's effect of turning the reanimated corpse to dust upon the second death, and given how spells can no longer be custom made is it too much of a jump to believe reanimate will be a "permanent" effect lasting until the targets second death? 69.250.157.253 14:21, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Quite possible, but until we get more info, or the game comes, we should probably just leave it. Where did you find out you can only reanimate things twice?RIM 14:36, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Dead Thrall Respawn Glitch[edit]

I added "Generic NPCs reanimated with the Dead Thrall spell that are then taken to a different cell and killed can cause another of their NPC Type to spawn when the cell resets."

I witnessed this first hand on my own save file, playing on an XBox 360, the NPC was a Female Bandit Marauder, with a completely empty inventory, the location was Whiterun and I don't recall where I found her in the first place. After I left the body there I continued to get "That spell looks dangerous!" remarks from NPCs for about 1 in game month, and when I returned to Whiterun 3 in game months later I found a non hostile Male Bandit Marauder, fully suited in Steel Armor, he was friendly on every account and I could even press A on him to make him say a random line, when I attacked him I received no bounty and guards even jumped in to help me (I backed up a save before attacking him so if anyone would like me to test something I can), the ash pile that I left behind using one of the weaker versions of reanimate was still there but unsearchable, the only other bit of useful information I can think of is that I left a lot of items laying around in the street at one point (Dragon Bones and Dragon Scales). The reason I'm leaving all this information is so someone else can try to recreate the bug, I will be watching this page and I will answer any questions to the best of my ability.Jo'ker 13:59, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Reanimate[edit]

Good reanimate targets list[edit]

How about making a list of powerful npcs that are great for the Dead Thrall spells?--147.251.215.82 23:18, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

That would hardly be noteworthy enough for its own page or even inclusion on another. His Immortal Majesty, Eric Snowmane 04:55, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
However, it would be noteworthy and worthwhile to explain in detail how Dead Thrall works, which would involve giving examples and pointers on what makes a good target -- basically, a description of what things factor into how your Dead Thrall will behave, what they'll be capable of, how tough they'll be, and so on would be nice. --Aquillion 00:42, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
Please do, I've seen some lists that include Orchendor or Lucien, even the Priest of Azura. Basically a paragraph detailing Dead Thrall would be very useful. — Unsigned comment by 200.26.173.58 (talk) at 21:14 on 26 December 2011
theres also a lot of optimization that can be done through enchanting their gear while their in corpse mode.
this would he a great idea, theres so much potential with dead thralls. some npcs have very unique abilities (Teleporation) and most can have their initial enchanted making them essential a second or third follower. — Unsigned comment by 75.172.36.116 (talk) at 05:39 on 31 December 2011
Availability is another factor to consider. Strong respawning targets have a mundane advantage over targets that you may misplace or otherwise lose. 95.206.21.215 23:56, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

() The very best candidates for Dead Thrall useage are NPC who cap at level 40 and have permanent corpses that do not respawn and inventories that do not reset. They can be placed anywhere you like and will remain fully equipped for reanimation whenever you want to use them. In my game(Xbox) , these include Orchendor , Arondil , Kornalus , Umana , Sild the Warlock , Silus Vesuius , Anise , Sulla Trebatius , and Legate Rikke(stormcloak victory). I`ve also encountered some powerful generic NPC bandits at Nilheim and Mistwatch Keep that are permanent corpses but not certain if that is a common occurance. Likewise , I was able to bring the mage , Haldyn , back from Japhet`s Folly and he remained permanent so long as I did not complete the final stage of the Rise in the East quest that he was a part of. — Unsigned comment by 98.157.24.218 (talk) at 13:23 on 18 September 2012‎

Dead Thrall Spell NPC response[edit]

Since I used the dead Thrall spell a couple of times, got Ulfric and the second in command, everyone tells me I have a dangerous spell, when I checked in my active abilities it says over 2300 hours till it runs out, and no way to take it off, even when killing the thralls, it's getting quite bothersome, anyone knows a way to fix this? or got it to happen to them?

If you use beast form it will remove the effects--71.22.182.47 03:04, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
If you use 'Conjure Familiar' twice it will spawn 2 wolfs for 60 seconds that will replace the thralls. How did you get Ulfric? When I try it says he is too powerful even with 100 Conjuration. Kimi the Elf 15:19, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
Ulfric is leveled to match your level. If you want to get him as a thrall, you will have to complete the unification quests before about level 40 (the max for Dead Thrall), otherwise it won't work on him. Note that unlike most companions, leveled dead thralls continue to level to match you, so if he later dies once you've past level 40 (or you summon more companions to make him collapse), you won't be able to revive him again. --Aquillion 21:48, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
I think using the 'Conjure Familiar' or other summons twice (I have 'Twin Souls' perk) had cleared the Dead Thrall spell effect listing in my Active Effects on a previous occasion where everyone was telling me about the 'dangerous spell', but this last time, it did not work. I had lost a Dead Thrall while fast traveling home with loot - they never spawned in with me, and the effect was listed with the phenomenally huge number of hours and of course, all the NPCs telling me about me dangerous spell. Note: I'm on XBox 360. I tried reanimating two dead bodies and killing them, conjuring familiars, conjuring Dremora Lords, etc. Nothing would work to clear the effect. Searching with Google turned up someone's suggestion to cast 'Flame Cloak' if I had it. That did the trick. The thought was that 'Flame Cloak' kills the thrall who is 'lost in the ether'."that spell looks dangerous, keep your distance" 22:27, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Giants?[edit]

The page says that the spell does not work on Giants. However, I successfully used the spell "Reanimate Corpse" on the body of the giant killed by the Companions at Pelagia Farm. Is this giant special, or does the spell actually work on giants, or is my game glitched? — Unsigned comment by 96.224.212.82 (talk) at 02:30 on 23 January 2012 (UTC)

This is a Scripted encounter and one intended to be stumbled across by a low level character. As such, I would not be at all surprised if this Giant is in fact a special exception. Thuraya Salaris 02:37, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Briarheart 81lvl[edit]

I am 81lvl and I want Forsworn Briarheart dead thrall, because they are so strong. But game says its too powerful for me. I already have necromage perk, so is there any way for me to boost the lvl cap of dead thrall more or do I need to use an other spell? Tell me its not impossible =( I want to have powerful vampire zombie too.--84.248.192.31 15:27, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Necromage would do nothing for resurrection, at least I would think. That perk makes spells more effective against the UNdead and not corpses. Thus meaning it would have no effect until a corpse is risen, at which point it would then be an undead being. As a corpse, it's just that: Dead. So, you're limited because at your level, that particular being was scaled along with your level while alive and ranked beyond your Conjuration skill. I have no knowledge of any effect in the game that would increase your Conjuration skill beyond 100, as Conjuration boosts typically just make spells under that school last longer. So, in other words, your overall level is too high, and with it the world itself has been scaled with it, for your Conjuration skill to be effective against more powerful enemies. (And yes, I realise that I'm responding to this nearly a year after the original post. Better late than never, for any reading and wondering the same, I think.) Mallios (talk) 09:12, 27 January 2013 (GMT)
Necromage does increase the maximum level for resurrection, but only with those already undead (vampires are the only undead with black souls, as far as I know, that would work with dead thrall). Even with necromage, level 81 is too high for Dead Thrall to reanimate an NPC. LoftedAphid86 09:30, 27 January 2013 (GMT)

Cell change bug[edit]

When I change cells with a reanimated minion, he will always crumble into ash, even if the speel still have time left. Also, until the spell wears off normally there is a invisible minion following me and the ash pile can't be activated. Using a mod to remove the ash pile on death effect caused the minion to reset to his default equipment instead of vanishing. Has anyone else seens this bug, and does anyone know of a mod to fix it? — Unsigned comment by 83.200.212.176 (talk) at 19:19 on 24 February 2012

Yes, I have this bug and there are no mods on PS3 to fix it. :) Necromancy works on a cell by cell basis. This has limited the capabilities of my necromancer and the entire point of Fortify Conjuration potions (or the Necromancy perk) which extend the time the raised minion is active. I've adapted to this, but I'm hoping the cell change won't affect Dead Thralls once I learn that spell. In addition to the ash problem, the pile itself is unlootable. And in addition to that, I have random NPCs and creatures that show up after fast traveling, most often in major cities. I believe if you exit one cell and enter another with a raised minion, they are "killed" but really transported off-cell and re-appear when you fast travel. There is no rhyme or reason to when they appear and when they don't, but I believe it's based off the proximity between the dungeon where the bug occurred and the fast travel destination. Of course, being on PS3, there is no real way for me to know for sure what the hell is going on. I can only hope that Bethesda fixes it. EDIT: Could we get this bug added to the main Conjuration page since it practically limits conjuration spells to last in only one cell?Schm0 00:32, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
I noticed one reason for losing thralls on cell change. Especially with the Twin Souls perk, the second thrall will often spawn very close to the door, activate it and return back to the previous cell. If they aren't permanent, they will be cleaned up by the game engine as soon as they are in a different cell then a player. To avoid this, quickly move away from the load door far enough to have your thralls follow you. 217.80.37.228 11:04, 26 April 2015 (GMT)

Reanimate won't work on 'dusted' and respawned NPCs & monsters[edit]

It might be worth to add that reanimate won't never work again if corpse turns into ash. When cell resets monsters and NPCs will respawn. These seem to be same creatures and reanimate won't work if you have reanimated NPC earlier. Corpses will resist Dead Thrall. Tested on patch 1.6.89.0.6 with low level wolf corpse. 84.251.33.3 16:44, 25 June 2012 (UTC)JT

Moonwalking/Unresponsive Revived NPCs[edit]

In addition to the strange bug I received above, now I have a roughly 1/3 chance of successfully reanimating any NPC. The unsuccessful reanimated NPCs either "moonwalk" in place or stand entirely still and don't make any sound or respond to any player damage/shouts. It's entirely hit or miss, and my entire necromancer build (Level 39, 80+ hours) is broken for now. It should be noted I am playing on PS3, so the odds this will get fixed any time soon are unlikely. However, I am curious to know if anyone else is experiencing these bugs and what may be causing them. Can we get these latest bugs put up on the main conjuration page? I'd edit myself but wanted to run it past the powers that be. Schm0 20:38, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

Mate I get that all the time, especially with deathlords. I'm playing on the ps3 too incidentally. I get air moonwalking or completely unresponsive characters. Giving them the full unrelenting force shout always works, at least for me. ~~ — Unsigned comment by 126.214.28.182 (talk) at 07:17 on 20 October 2012‎

Not turning into an Ash Pile bug[edit]

A few days ago, I reanimated one of the Draugr in bleak falls barrow with raise zombie. After finishing a battle, I was looking at him when the spell expired. Instead of turning into a pile of dust, he just fell over like he had died normally and I was able to reanimate him again. Upon reanimating another draugr however, he turned into a pile of dust normally. Could it be that the game bugged and didn't turn him into an ash pile because he was already undead? Playing on PS3 with all official patches--~The wind, forsaken~ (talk) 17:35, 6 May 2013 (GMT)

I've noticed that this has started happening after the 1.9 update was released. It happens to non-undead NPCs as well, such as necromancers. I notice it most often during a "random world encounter" event, specifically when the event involves a NPC that can raise the dead (i.e. vampire, necromancer).--Blackpete (talk) 06:00, 30 May 2013 (GMT)

1.9 Game Update and ash pile cleanup[edit]

I don't know if anyone else has noticed that the 1.9 patch didn't do anything to fix the cleanup issue with ash piles (even on a new game), despite saying differently in the patch notes. Perhaps, I'm missing something? Has anyone noticed a difference with ash piles cleaning up between 1.8 and 1.9? I'm aware of the fixes for PC, but I play on the Xbox 360. --Blackpete (talk) 05:08, 30 May 2013 (GMT)

Dead Thrall Healing Rate[edit]

My dead thralls do not heal naturally, and "getavinfo healrate" returns 0. However, Dead Thrall spell has an effect crSummonthrallFortifyHealRate with magnitude 1, which, I suppose, should give them natural regeneration. Any thoughts? Sergio Morozov (talk) 17:44, 4 August 2013 (GMT)

So yea, I have added a note about them not regenerating, after several months passed... Next day I thrall some vampires... They seem to regenerate health... Sergio Morozov (talk) 20:46, 3 February 2014 (GMT)

Reanimated thralls die immediately[edit]

For some reason, sometimes when I cast a Reanimate spell, the NPC dies immediately after I reanimate them. This is really annoying, can anyone provide any insight as to why this might be happening? — Unsigned comment by 75.186.4.71 (talk) on 31 May, 2014
