Bug[edit]

The lute is not removed from the player's inventory on completion of the quest, and it remains flagged as a quest item. 24.156.216.144 22:44, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Also, (and this applies to all bard items) you can find them before activating the quest. In doing so, you can still get the quest rewrads however the quests will never show up in your journal because you never activated them.
Actually, none of the three "locate-the-instrument" quests will show up as quests in your journal, regardless of your prerequisite actions. This is puzzling me to no end, because all three should be marked as normal quests - and more or less limits the Bards College quest line to one quest only. --Krusty 08:31, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
They show up fine now - they're just all Misc Quests. (None of them work properly though still). Aliana 23:17, 10 January 2012 (UTC)
If you find an instrument before you get the quest, can you get them back out of your inventory again?? Oshaugm 00:18, 3 December 2011 (UTC)
No. I'm in this situation. Because of this, one can tell the quest giver multiple times, that you have found the item, and the same dialog will be repeated all the time, but there will only be one reward.— Unsigned comment by 85.66.211.226 (talk) at 22:03 on 26 January 2012

And the fact that the lute isn't removed is not a one-off type of situation. The same with all miscellaneous Bard quests. Saving before you turn in the item, no matter how many times you reload, will always have the same result. They never take the musical items and they're stuck in your inventory forever, weighted. PC players are lucky they can remove unnecessary items. (AT THE RISK OF ADDING NONSENSE) 70.114.63.215 21:34, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Wow Bethesda, really? Aaarrrrrrgggghhhhh! Pantea won't recognize that i've found the flute, I can't get rid of the lute, and now I don't even want to pick up the drum. This is just like Gallus' Journal. I guess it's not that horrible, it's just that the only reason I even bothered with the prerequisite quest is that I was tired of carrying around 6 lbs of quest... and now, oi. SO glad i'm not buying this for myself till GOTY, and then only for PC. — Unsigned comment by 24.247.177.201 (talk) at 01:00 on 24 January 2012
While the instruments have stayed in my inventory they are still quest items and do not have weight. I tested this by dropping everything I could (instruments remaining) until I reached zero weight— Unsigned comment by 14.200.251.183 (talk) at 09:57 on 31 January 2012
I picked up the lute (playing on the PS3) before the quest was assigned. I later received the quest from Inge and was given a miscellaneous quest of "Find Finn's Lute." I gave Inge the lute and was rewarded (can't remember with what) but the quest remained in my menu and the lute is not removed from my inventory. I can tell her repeatedly that I've found the lute and she will say the same thing she did originally but the reward is not given again. I attempted to kill her to fail the quest but killing her does not result in the game recognizing a quest failure. I can also confirm that the item, since it is considered a quest item, does not affect my weight. — Unsigned comment by 76.21.245.177 (talk) at 18:33 on 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Reward[edit]

The reward was +1 in all magic skills for me, so I guess that varies from player to player. --Alfwyn 18:17, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

I just received a +1 in magic skills for completing Pantea's Flute - are you sure? --Krusty 20:46, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, it looks like I got those flutes mixed up somehow. Must have been Pantea's Flute. --Alfwyn 21:07, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
No problem! With all the bugs present in the Bards College I'm more or less willing to believe everything. :) --Krusty 21:17, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
I appear to have gotten +1 in all stealth skills for Finn's Lute. -Nikomis 21:40, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Norwegian Composer Finn Ludt (1918-1992)[edit]

Incidentally there was a twentieth century Norwegian composer named Finn Ludt, who's last name is pronounced exactly like the Norwegian word "lutt", meaning lute. Ludt composed the melodies of several Norwegian melodic top hit songs from about 1950 to the early 1980's. If it was added intentional, it might even qualify as an Easter Egg. ----MortenOSlash 23:21, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

While the above is more likely, it is also possible that this is another Adventure Time reference as Finn, while wearing his Lute Suit in the episode "Go With Me", tries to romance Princess Bubblegum by playing the aforementioned lute. Lute Suit jokes and Finn's lute playing abilities crop up in the series from time to time afterwards. Again, very likely the above is more true, but thought i'd point it out. 70.160.103.130 02:39, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Prerequisite[edit]

Completed this quest without finishing Tending The Flames, anybody else get this? The others don't seem to work, though. --DaedalusMachina 10:05, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Bug fix for the lute getting stuck in your Inventory[edit]

If you've already found the item or the quest log wont go away theres a fix for it. (PC only fix)

    • Make sure you've completed the Quest Skyrim:Tending the Flames
    • Type in console player.drop 000dabab 1
    • resetquest BardsCollegeLute
    • Talk to Inge Six fingers
    • Pick up the item and turn the quest in.

It worked for me,and I hope this helps.— Unsigned comment by 72.89.196.160 (talk) at 02:50 on 24 January 2012

How do I dodge this bug?[edit]

Alright, I just cleared Stony Creek Cave, doing a misc. Quest, and when I opened the chest to find the item I was after, Finn's Lute was in there. If I just ignore it and leave it there, will everything be alright? — Unsigned comment by 147.124.146.94 (talk) at 21:25 on 24 March 2012 (UTC)
