On dragon wall translations:[edit]

I don't think your translation for the Faas word is correct. Firstly, Fear isn't even in your translation. Secondly, where do you get "Pray", "Against", and "Life"? None of those words are in the passage. (And if they were, would completely defeat the purpose of the "Laas" wall: Words of power only appear once in any passage across skyrim.) The passage (with corrected grammar) reads as such: "Noble Nord, Remember these words of the hoar father: Fear not (the) specter of death, for he is (the) herald of glory and your guide to great Sovngarde." Also, the word "Moron" means Glory. In the passage, its "Moro". Weather it is a typo (xD) or if its some type of word alteration from it's syntax, i'm not sure. Kevalan 05:21, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Dismay's Fear effect - works with Fortify Illusion potions?[edit]

After you reach a certain level, even a level 3 Dismay fails to work against some enemies. But can its effect be improved via a Fortify Illusion potion?

No other shout effect is affected similarly by skills, to my knowledge, as in Fire or Frost breath will not do more damage with the appropriate perks into the destruction skill. I can only speak of my observations since I can't dip into the coding of any of this so I can only assume that the shout is not affected by either illusion perks OR fortify illusion effects or that it simply reaches a cap like the level cap on reanimating corpses.Chronic 21:42, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

I tested the same thing with my perks in Illusion, and unfortunately it does not work on enemies higher than level 30 as well. I think the reason is because Dragon Shouts are scripted to be a different type of magic, even though certain shouts (e.g Fire Breath, Frost Breath, Dismay) have effects similar to those in the magic schools. 72.68.154.112 22:55, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Glitch with Dismay Shout?[edit]

This has been marked as a question that needs to be answered.

I had decided to finally go for all the shouts after defeating Alduin in the main quest. The first one I went for is the Dismay Shout. I already had the first part of this shout. When I got to Lost Tongue Overlook, it directly gave me the "Terror" part (3rd part) of the shout, skipping the second part of the shout completely. I reloaded and tried again multiple times, each time achieving the same effect. So I then went to Shalidor's Maze, thinking that it was just a minor glitch. Same deal happened there. Is the Dismay Shout glitched due to an update or something? — Unsigned comment by 64.150.147.130 (talk) on 4 May 2012

It's glitched in my game, too. I had the first word (took in the lost tongue overlook) and when I went to dead crone rock, it didn't give me the second one, but again the first one! (the animation played, but the word didn't appear in the shouts menu. it's as if I only had the first)
When I went to shalidor's maze (yesterday, many months later of when I went to lost tongue overlook), when I approached the wall, I heard the sound effects but the visual effects were absent, and it didn't give me the word, no matter what. I noticed that it's as if the walls of the dismay shout are present all at the same time, in fact the dragon script on the wall is a mess. If I open the console, click on the wall and do "disable", some scripts disappear. If I click and disable again, other scripts disappear. If I do it a third time, the whole wall disappears. That's a proof that the 3 walls are there simultaneously. Cridus (talk) 07:43, 13 March 2013 (GMT)
This bug has been fixed by the Unofficial Skyrim Patch 2.0. However, the fix is not retroactive. It happens in other places too, not only with this shout.
The problem was a script trying to modify a Global Setting in the wrong way, as described here:
