Fish/Water Organization[edit]

Is there anyway you can group the rare fish by the water type they are found in?— Unsigned comment by 173.18.145.35 (talk) at 02:50 on 3 November 2014

Can it be found by reading game files, or do we have to take notes from in-game experiences? —MortenOSlash (talk) 09:15, 24 January 2015 (GMT)
Or are the rare fish are not confined to only one habitat, unlike the ordinary fish? —MortenOSlash (talk) 16:25, 24 January 2015 (GMT)

Sandbox for noting rare fish habitats[edit]

I have put up a sandbox page for noting the habitats of rare fish. All registered users of UESP are free to add their observations. —MortenOSlash (talk) 17:06, 24 January 2015 (GMT)

For the record: The project finished successfully several months ago and was added to the page. Thanks for the help to everyone who added to it. —MortenOSlash (talk) 04:42, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

Bal Foyen rare fish?[edit]

Are there any rare fish in the Bal Foyen zone? I find several fish holes, both river and salt water, but I have still not had time to try them yet. —MortenOSlash (talk) 06:07, 11 February 2015 (GMT)

According to the Rare Fish Tracker addon by katkat42, Bal Foyen seems to inherit Bleakrock Isle rare fish, with the same very rare salt water Inner Sea Scalyfin. That is even if Bal Foyen have at least both river and foul water fish holes. I have not tested salt water ingame yet, worms not being as readily available as other bait, so I will not add anything on it until I see anything or find reliable sources. (I have tested both foul water and river there quite a bit, but have gotten no rare fish so far.) —MortenOSlash (talk) 09:18, 8 March 2015 (GMT)
Now it is observed. The Inner Sea Scalyfin can be caught in salt water around Bal Foyen, and triggers the Bleakrock Angler achievement. I have added it. I did not add any vn tag, but if anyone feels it must be verified separately, I have no objections. —MortenOSlash (talk) 21:56, 9 March 2015 (GMT)

New source of bait?[edit]

I have recently seen bait such as guts come from barrels and crates. Should this be reflected? I have a screenshot to prove it but have no idea how and where to post it. Contraptions (talk) 21:14, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

You can post it here if you want. Is it only certain types of containers that provide bait? —Legoless (talk) 21:21, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Here is a link. Hope it works. File:User-Contraptions-Guts from crate.png Contraptions (talk) 09:06, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Can it only be found in owned containers, then? —Legoless (talk) 13:58, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
Perhaps. But even so, they seem to drop so rarely that I don't think barrels and crates will be a significant source of bait. Contraptions (talk) 15:34, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

Advanced bait?[edit]

The addition of a reference to advanced bait makes me wonder if there also should have been added something about how much advanced bait raises the chance of getting rare fish. Is it possible to mine data on that to add here? —MortenOSlash (talk) 07:30, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

Don't think so. People have been trying to figure out the chance of getting Perfect Roe from a fish as well, with no success. —Legoless (talk) 15:59, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
We can't mine data, but I'm pretty confident in saying that the advanced bait yields rare fish more often. Also, Faunter told me that from experience, perfect roe drops every 60 or so fish. More experiential data here would be helpful though. Jeancey (talk) 17:07, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
All the Perfect Roe numbers are speculatory. I think there's a plug-in of some sort to measure individual harvest rates, but until ZOS releases the data there's no way of knowing. The same probably applies here. —Legoless (talk) 17:47, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
In games such as these, this sort of data is never released. The only way the community knows is by gathering large sample sizes and coming up with a roughly accurate number, which is what I think we should do. Jeancey (talk) 17:49, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
There are plenty of such threads on the official forums ([1], [2]) if we want to give it a shot. Might be a good feature to add to uespLog as well. —Legoless (talk) 17:52, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

() Having fished quite a bit now with the so called advanced bait, I am starting to doubt the claim for it to give more rare fish. It is hard to find anything online too, except speculations. Where does the naming "advanced bait" come from anyway? I have just added a vn tag to it. —MortenOSlash (talk) 20:26, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

I passed some time fishing with a large bunch of minnows and chubs and I can confirm you that it didn't help me at all to gather more rare fish. Madjack (talk) 03:39, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

"Prevent the appearance of used bait"[edit]

So from what I understand, there are only four types of fishing spots, and for each spot, two types of bait that guarantee to not net Used Bait. If that's the case, why did I end up getting a piece of Used Bait from a fishing spot in Coldharbour when I tried Crawlers, Guts, Worms, and Insect Parts on it? If the article is correct, I should have not gotten any from at least one of those. Schiffy(Talk) 18:52, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

I have experienced some few fishing spots throughout Tamriel that seem to not accept any of the eight types of bait. (I have never used Simple Bait, though.) I have just shrugged them off as bugs. —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:37, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
From what I have experienced, if at a particular fishing hole you get a used bait on your first try (it has to be the first), then you will most likely only get used baits afterwards, no matter what bait you decide to use. Madjack (talk) 03:39, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
I've definitely gotten used bait on the first cast (when I used the wrong bait) and after switching to the correct bait for the water type, was able to fish out the hole without getting any more used bait. So it definitely isn't a 100% thing.... Jeancey (talk) 03:49, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
I am pretty sure the fishing hole closest to Matthild's Last Venture in the lake just west of the site are among those places I have observed the used bait on all eight bait types (never tried simple bait), but it is quite a few months since I tried, and it would not spawn any of the times I went there today to check. —MortenOSlash (talk) 19:36, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
I finally found the fishing hole up, but it seems to have been fixed. I now get lake fish there. —MortenOSlash (talk) 05:51, 14 January 2016 (UTC)

DLC fish[edit]

I cut & paste edited Craglorn into Imperial City and Wrothgar, so people searching for the fish can find what fish are where in the DLCs. I was unable to find the raw data for each new fish, nor did I find existing id's for them. I changed all of them to id=99999. If someone can assist me in finding the raw data for the new fish and can show me how to create the page for one of them, I will create pages for the rest of the DLC fish. Email me if you can assist... Thanks! Mac Macadamia (talk) 02:40, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

See this search, this result and this edit to see how to find the ID. Hopefully you can figure it out! —Legoless (talk) 12:39, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the info! I did figure it out and have edited all of the fish I added yesterday with their proper id numbers and all of the mouseovers work. I also discovered 2 misspelled fish and have fixed those as well. Thanks 10^6!! Macadamia (talk) 13:25, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

Foul water on Khenarthi's Roost[edit]

When you first arrive on Khenarthi's Roost, the fishing holes by the landing are foul water fishing holes, where crawlers/fish roe are used to catch Slaughterfish, Trodh and Chub. Not sure if these revert to ocean fishing holes and if so when, nor whether it is possible to catch the Pyandonean Ray from these holes. Biffa (talk) 09:04, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

The rare fish list does not indicate that there are no other types of fishing holes. It only indicates the lack of rare fish species in other fishing holes than the ocean water ones. It is the same with Bal Foyen where you find fishing holes in both rivers and foul water, but no rare fish can be caught there. —MortenOSlash (talk) 09:57, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Spawning Fish?[edit]

Fish Eye marks the New Life Fishing Holes as "Spawning Fish". I've added it to the page as a new type of water - does it show up anywhere else? —Legoless (talk) 17:22, 26 December 2016 (UTC)
