She's a vampire. When she uses the act of feeding on thralls to defend the way most vampires treat mortals, she uses "we", implying that she feeds off of mortal blood. Gwendis drinks wine during Dream Walk Into Darkness, so it's implied that vampires can eat and drink mortal food with no problem. -MolagBallet (talk) 18:30, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
