He can be overheard as you approach him.

"What a mess."

As he gives you the quest, he explain that his brother Miharil is trapped by goblins who taken over the mine:

"This was a sad day until you appeared. Are you a person who can be hired?"
Perhaps. What do you want me to do?
"Save our idiot clutch-brother, Miharil. He came to this dismal village to work in the Mud Tree Village mine. Now Goblins have seized it, and our brother's inside.
A group of us came to rescue him. What were we thinking? We're not warriors."
Any idea where I should began?
"Surii Dreth runs the place. She was the former master here before the Pact. She is knowledgeable about the mine. Unfortunately, we're not on good speaking terms.
You have no history here. You can talk to her."
If your brother still lives, I'll find him.

You can ask him more about the situation:

"My clutch-brother may be no smarter than a Goblin, but he's family."
What can you tell me about the situation in Mud Tree Village?
"This pit of a mining village? It's a terrible place run by a horrible person."
Why do you say this place is terrible?
"Before the Pact, Argonians were enslaved here.
When our chains were finally broken, most of us left. Too much blood and pain in this place"
Anything you can tell me about the foreman? What was her name? / What can you tell me about the foreman?
"Xuth! Surii Dreth. I can say nothing good about her. She was a master when we were slaves, and she remains a master now.
She was fond of her lash. I doubt that's changed."
Why did your brother come here?
"He is mad, that's why. A few days ago, Miharil was overcome with the desire to return here. Maybe it's a perverse homesickness ... or maybe he just lusts for Dunmer gold.
And now he's dragged me back here."

Speaking to him after finding Miharil:

"Miharil is a stubborn fool. He won't come home until he sees this through.
I don't know whether to be proud of him. Maybe he should just leave things alone."

When you make your final decision, him and his brothers will be at the forge.

If you gave the Gnaw-Root Goblin Totem to Miharil:

"I have been waiting for our brother's return. He is somewhere among the Goblins.
May he find good mud and plentiful fish."

Speaking to him after the quest:

"My brother still has not returned. I fear the Goblins did not greet him as he expected."

If you gave the Gnaw-Root Goblin Totem to Thragnar the Breaker:

"I will not speak to one who enslaves others.
Leave. Your reward is forfeit."

Speaking to him after the quest:

"I hear a fool speaking. I choose not to listen."
