Quest-Related Events[edit]
The Double Edge[edit]
To get answers about Reynila, Sharp-as-Night suggests tracking down Mevei in Ald Isra. When you meet Sharp there, he approaches Mevei cautiously.
- Sharp-as-Night: "See that? Two lanterns—that's got to be Mevei."
- Mevei Andros: "Sharp-as-Night? By Azura, after all these years, is it really you?"
- Sharp-as-Night: "I was afraid you'd say something like that."
She can shed light on the situation with Reynila and the Reformer, and what Sharp has to do with any of it.
- "I don't know you, and I've never met Sharp. But the way my Reynila spoke of him, I'd recognize him anywhere!
Are you one of her connections? Have you been watching over him all this time? Did he finally remember Reynila?" - I'm helping Sharp, but we only just met. He remembers nothing of his life before a few years ago.
- "The Reformer uses experimental magic on his slaves. Reynila didn't understand the process, and when she excised it from Sharp to free him, it tore something from him. His memories, she thought.
Reynila never forgave herself for what happened." - Where is Reynila now? We have reason to believe she's in danger.
- "She put herself on assignment. She's freeing another from the Reformer. I haven't heard from her, but that's how these things often go.
Forgive me, it's only just occurred to me, but if Sharp has no memories of Reynila … how did you find me?" - Deredrien betrayed Reynila to work for the Reformer. We found these notes on his mercenaries.
- "What? Deredrien … No! Reynila needed her help to find the smuggler's tunnels in Gorne. She'd arranged for a boat to take them to safety.
If it's just the two of them in those tunnels—I need to get to her. Please, can you help?" - We can head to Gorne and find Reynila.
You can wait a few moments and talk to Mevei more before to head to Gorne.
- "You two go on ahead. I need to gather Reynila's research and … prepare to travel light for a while.
We always knew this day might come. Thankfully, we always tried to remain ready for just such an occasion." - Sharp and I have some questions for you first.
- "I can spare a moment to tell you what I know—but after, we really should get moving to Gorne."
- Who is Reynila to you?
- "She is my wife. Sharp is the reason we met, actually—she needed forged documents for his new identity. I'd never done anything like that before, but she convinced me.
Pity he didn't get to use the forgeries, but some good came of it, at least." - Is it true she used to work for the Reformer?
- "It is. She told me he had ambitious ideals that challenged the traditions of house Telvanni.
But when she witnessed the cost of those ideals firsthand, she had a change of heart. Breaking ties wasn't enough. She started freeing his slaves. - Do you still help Reynila with her operation?
- "When she lets me. I'm skilled in forgeries and logistics, but I've never done field work. Not like her.
It's dangerous work, and … well … she's always been very protective of me. - So she works alone?
- "She has an informal web of operatives across Tamriel focused on freeing slaves.
She relies heavily on favors and appealing to people's better nature. It's a struggle, to be sure. I think Reynila takes on a lot more than she can bear."
- "She is my wife. Sharp is the reason we met, actually—she needed forged documents for his new identity. I'd never done anything like that before, but she convinced me.
- What can you tell us about this Reformer?
- "He's a rich and powerful Telvanni magister who hides behind his moniker and keeps the particulars of his research close to his chest.
He practices horrible experiments on his slaves. Somehow, he thinks his work is going to end slavery in Tamriel." - How would he do that?
- "Reynila says he uses some experimental metal to create a sort of link between him and his subjects.
I've blocked out most of the details. But I do know that Sharp was the Reformer's favorite." - That explains why he's so desperate to capture Sharp again.
- "Sharp's resistance always captivated the Reformer. It was as if perfecting that link and conquering Sharp's will was his greatest trial."
- And severing that link was why Sharp lost his memories?
- "Precisely. After that happened to Sharp, Reynila studied the vile process and learned how to safely de-attune those freed after him.
She'll be thrilled to see him again. I just know it. She might even know how to restore his memories!"
- "He's a rich and powerful Telvanni magister who hides behind his moniker and keeps the particulars of his research close to his chest.
- What more can you tell us about Sharp's past?
- "Reynila can tell you more when we find her. The way she speaks of him, it's like she's worrying after an old friend.
She liked to imagine that he ended up living a peaceful life as a fisherman somewhere." - When did Reynila lose track of Sharp, exactly?
- "He was feral when she excised him from the Reformer's control. She had no choice but to subdue him.
She delivered him to Deredrien at an old safe site in Valenwood. He was supposed to go to Black Marsh from there, but things didn't go as planned." - What happened?
- "Deredrien put a hand on Sharp to shake him awake, and he nearly clawed her face off. She said she barely escaped with her life.
I can't blame Sharp, and Reynila felt the same. He must have reacted in fear, that's all." - Did Deredrien keep helping Reynila after that?
- "No. Deredrien was furious. Reynila didn't know such a thing would happen, but that didn't seem to matter to Deredrien. She had complained that Reynila wasn't paying her enough, anyway.
I'm just sad it ended this way for her."
- "Reynila can tell you more when we find her. The way she speaks of him, it's like she's worrying after an old friend.
Ending dialogue, she will ask Sharp for help.
- Mevei Andros: "Sharp, Reynila would say that you're under no obligation to help. But, please—"
- Sharp-as-Night: "I'm on my way. Where are these smuggler's tunnels you mentioned?"
- Mevei Andros: "I think there's a secret entrance in the southwest tunnels. I'll follow shortly. Please—hurry!"
She meets with the party in Gorne, rushing to her injured wife's side.
- Reynila Treviri: "Sharp, please. Help her."
- Dimik-ei: "Kaj-kujei? What are you doing here?"
- Sharp-as-Night: "What did you just call me?"
- Mevei Andros: "Reynila, I'm here. Just stay still."
Speaking to her before Reynila, she will comment briefly, not looking away from Reynila.
- "I came as quickly as I could. But I fear we're too late."
As Reynila dies, she talks to her.
- Mevei Andros: "Reynila? Stay with me, love. Please. Reynila?"
Reynila dies, and Mevei is left sobbing over her body. Speaking to her again, she's not very interested in conversation.
- "Please, just give me a moment to grieve."
After speaking with Dimik-ei, she seems to have composed herself enough to talk a little more.
- "I always knew it could have ended this way. But I never thought ….
At least I was with her in her final moments."
Before you complete the quest with Sharp:
- "I'll carry on Reynila in my memories, always."
After speaking with Sharp, Mevei will stand up to address Dimik-ei.
- Mevei Andros: "Dimik-ei, Reynila got you this far. I'll take you the rest of the way. And then I'm never coming back to Morrowind."
- Sharp-as-Night: "Where are you taking her?"
- Mevei Andros: "You've made your path clear, Sharp. If you fail at taking out the Reformer and fall under his control again, it's better if you don't know."
Sharp will begin walking away to leave, prompting Dimik-ei to plead with him.
- Dimik-ei: "Sharp, please come with us. You don't have to be alone."
- Sharp-as-Night: "I'm not going to be alone. And I'm not going to fail."
Speaking with her again after Sharp takes his leave:
- "My heart may never recover from losing Reynila. I should have been with her.
I'll finish this final mission of hers, and then I'll be gone. I won't look back."
Between a Rock and a Whetstone[edit]
After the events of The Double Edge, Sharp-as-Night decides to check in on Federo Endril who he hasn't heard from and wants to ask some questions about the Reformer. You soon learn Federo fled the Reformer and is in Eastmarch trying to create a new identity, and if you help him, he will provide the blackmail material he collected on the Reformer to you. Federo tells you to head to the Adept's Retreat in Windhelm and meet with the forger.
When you arrive, you find out the forger is none other than Mevei:
- Mevei Andros: "Sharp? Stranger …. What are you doing here?"
- Sharp-as-Night: "I could ask you the same—oh, no. You're the forgery expert, aren't you?"
- Mevei Andros: "Keep your voice down!"
Talk with Mevei to explain what is happening and what you need:
- "After I saw Dimik-ei to safety, I was lost. I remembered that Reynila and I came to Windhelm on a holiday, once. I just sort of drifted here.
But I tried to keep my head down. I must not have hidden well enough. How did you manage to find me?" - We weren't looking for you, exactly. We're looking to get a forged identity and were pointed here.
- "Reynila worked hard to bring light to all corners of the world. Now that she's gone, everything feels cast in shadow. Like I've lost my purpose.
But forgery is something I know. Something I did for her. This new identity—is it for Sharp?" - It's for Federo Endril. He used to broker jobs from the Reformer.
- "I know that name. Reynila used to keep tabs on him. She wrote him, pleading for him to defect as an abolitionist.
I was convinced he was a lost cause. But Reynila didn't believe in lost causes. He's really had a change of heart, has he?" - He refused to give up Sharp, and he's agreed to give us all the information he has on the Reformer.
- "Reynila's work, then—it wasn't for nothing. A spark still remains. Her mission doesn't have to die with her.
I'll draft up a plausible identity. Something that will allow Federo unrestricted travel, wherever he might wish to go." - Thank you, Mevei.
Mevei will then create the Courier's Permit and leave it on the table, Sharp will ask Mevei a question:
- Sharp-as-Night: "Our contact wanted new clothing, too. Any idea where we might find something easy on the coin purse?"
- Mevei Andros: "There's a tailor in the armorer's place across town. Standard prices, though. I'd help, if I had coin to spare."
If you speak with her before taking the permit:
- "I'd been wondering how I could possibly continue my wife's work. I'm just a document forger. I'm not strong like she was.
But you and Sharp finding me here feels like a sign. Like Reynila showing me the way. And I don't have to go forward alone."
Once you have collected the forged document, you can talk to Mevei again:
- "Be careful out there, you two. I feel better knowing that you have each other to rely on.
And keep in touch, will you? I want to see the Reformer's downfall as much as either of you. Call on me, if you should need my help."
Light the Way to Freedom[edit]
Sharp-as-Night will ask you to come with him to Rawl'kha to meet with Mevei, as she apparently has a lead on Sondivel Ulres's location. When you approach the Waxing Crescent Inn you see two figures rise from a bench in front of the inn. Sharp is surprised by one of them:
- Mevei Andros: "Good to see you two again."
- Sharp-as-Night: "You too—wait. Federo? Is that really you?"
- Federo Endril: "Against my better judgment [sic], yes. It's me. I'm here."
Speak with Mevei to see what she knows:
- "When Sharp contacted me about Dimik-ei, I knew I should have been doing much more, much sooner. My grief immobilized me too long. No longer.
Federo and I found a solid lead on someone connected with Sondivel Ulres, the Reformer." - Federo's helping you?
- "He's helping us. Like me, he's had trouble putting his old life behind him. He helped me track down an old contact of his who's working directly with Sondivel Ulres.
Apparently, she's established a lab and slaving operation nearby." - Who is this slaver, and where can we find her?
- "Elistrenne Starflower. She's in Senalana, an Ayleid ruin north of here. Our source said to look for a door with her namesake growing nearby.
She may have information on Sondivel, but she won't give it up easily. Dispose of her how you see fit." - Sharp and I will take care of it.
After speaking with her, she will tell you where to meet up afterwards:
- Mevei Andros: "We can meet afterward just outside of Arenthia, on the western bridge. It's not far from Senalana."
If you speak to her again:
- "My Reynila often shouldered the burden of her work alone. There's risk involving others. But without her here, it's a risk we have to take."
You can talk to her one more time after speaking with Sharp:
- "I appreciate you and Sharp delving into this Ayleid ruin in our stead. Federo and I aren't exactly fighters like you two."
After you search Elistrenne's lair and find a key and Sondivel's location, you can meet Federo and Mevei outside Arenthia. Tell Mevei what you learned
- "I'm relieved to see you both. I suppose the Starflower didn't give you too much trouble?
What did you discover at her hideout?" - We discovered the Reformer has a new lair in the Forgotten Crypts.
- "Forgotten Crypts—that's in Deshaan. In the heart of Pact territory. Of course, who's going to focus on slave operations when there's wars and plagues ravaging the region?
Any word of Dimik-ei?" - She's with the Reformer and his other slaves in Deshaan. Are you coming with us?
- "Federo and I will wait for you and the others nearby in Narsis.
You're really doing this, aren't you? I only wish Reynila was here to see it, too. Good luck, my friend. Stay safe." - You too. See you soon.
After you have spoken with Mevei, the trio will have a conversation:
- Mevei Andros: "When you're done, head south on the road from the Forgotten Crypts until you reach Narsis. We'll meet you there."
- Federo Endril: "We've come a long way from doing jobs for House Telvanni, haven't we, Sharp?"
- Sharp-as-Night: "Don't jinx it, Federo. The job's not over yet."
After you have defeated Sondivel and free the prisoners, you can meet with everyone in Narsis. Speaking with her before Sharp:
- "Thank Azura you made it. But I think Sharp wishes to speak with you."
If you exit out of the conversation with Sharp before turning in the quest, she will alternatively say:
- "It's really done, then? Sharp and Dimik-ei, both alive and well. Reynila would be glad to see it."
After you have spoken with Sharp and completed the quest, the following conversation will happen afterwards:
- Mevei Andros: "You did it? Sondivel Ulres, the Reformer—is no more?"
- Federo Endril: "If anyone could do it, it's these two right here."
- Sharp-as-Night: "He's dead. Burn any notes you have on his research so no one can pick up where he left off."
- Dimik-Ei: "Of course. We'll never let what happened to us happen to anyone else. Right?"
- Mevei Andros: "I'm never giving up Reynila's work. But you have a good life ahead of you. Try living it for yourself for a while, all right?"
- Dimik-Ei: "Sharp, your memories—when he died, did anything come back to you?"
- Sharp-as-Night: "No. Nothing. But it's all right. We'll make new ones."
Speaking with Mevei:
- "If Federo and I need your help in the future, we'll be sure to send for you. Reynila fought for Sharp's freedom so he might live his life however he wanted.
It's my job to light the way forward."
