Missing Child[edit]

The text states that she bore five children with sithis, but in the tomb there are the skeletons of one adult (presumably her) and four children's skeletons. Is this a mistake or is their extra information on this missing fifth child? — Unsigned comment by 90.202.196.44 (talk) at 19:26 on 14 January 2008‎

Non-Essential?[edit]

Has anyone tried killing the Night Mother after she becomes non-essential? I thought it might be worth a note to know what happens. — Unsigned comment by Darkguyhades (talkcontribs) at 00:29 on 27 March 2008‎

An interesting question, mainly because in my attempt to answer it, I can only come up with another question in its place. Playtesting, I made it to "Honor Thy Mother" and then tried to attack the Night Mother once the traitor was revealed. The Night Mother? Not only was she still marked Essential at this point, she was made untouchable as well. So, the new question is: why does the article lead readers to believe she is non-Essential when it is impossible to even harm her, much less kill her? —Dark Spark 02:44, 4 May 2008 (EDT)
I can't find the script that makes her non-essential either so that might be a mistake. Your in-game test seems to confirm that so it should probably be changed. –RpehTCE 03:58, 4 May 2008 (EDT)
They probably didn't feel the need to mark her as essential. All ghosts in the game that have retained their human form (i.e. Forlorn Watchman, Blades' Ghosts, etc.) are completely invulnerable unless console commands are used. Hell, you can't even pick their pockets! — Unsigned comment by 75.163.148.186 (talk) at 01:42 on 27 May 2010
I've actually used the console to try and re-transport myself back to her crypt after completing "Honor Thy Mother." She wasn't essential, but she has the appearance of an NPC ghost, and therefore all attacks go right through her (hence why Mattheiu failed). I could talk to her though, she had the basic Dunmer female voice, but no dialogue options. Also, Even though I said I tried to go back to her crypt, all I did in reality was use the command "player.moveto" with her RefID. I ended up an a completely black space with her standing there. The only was out was with the console. Schiffy (talk) 20:22, 23 September 2012 (GMT)

Truely is 1?[edit]

In morrowind, theres a quest to kill the so called 'Night mother' correct? Could it be possible that when she is killed, she was buried under the Lucky old Lady, and Sithis made her a spirit, which is now the "unholy matron"? — Unsigned comment by Lucky the Cat Guy (talkcontribs) on 6 August 2008

That happens in 3E 427, which is just six years before the Oblivion Crisis. The Night Mother talks about her "ancient slumber", which would seem to indicate a rather longer sleep. –RpehTCE 03:55, 6 August 2008 (EDT)
Besides, in the CS the Night Mother shows up as a dark elf, not as an imperial. R. — Unsigned comment by 82.73.24.202 (talk) at 20:14 on 22 September 2008

Speculation[edit]

Is there any reason to believe the book, Bravil: Daughter of the Niben, is accurate as far as the age of the Lucky Lady statue? Perhaps instead of 'thousands' of years, it has stood for about 'a' thousand years, putting its creation around the time that the first evidence of the Dark Brotherhood is documented.

The whole legend of who is the Lucky Lady is, well, a legend. Although, it is fun to speculate that the first part of the legend might be a fairly accurate depiction of the Night Mother's origin. The rest of the legend portraying her as becoming a very charitable person could be an embellishment added in later years -- supported by the city's temple being dedicated to Mara.

The really interesting questions, for me, are how the night mother came to be buried under that statue (presumably she wasn't interred *after* the statue was put there, although her tomb and the statue could've been placed at the same time.) and then 'why' Bravil?

Perhaps Sithis, or Mephala in male form, impregnated the prostitute, creating a 'daughter' as a reflection or appearance of Mephala -- in anticipation of, or reaction to, the Morag Tong's defection to Vivec worship -- to lead the new Dark Brotherhood.

If this is the wrong forum for such speculations, my apologies. --Lilbacchant 22:34, 5 May 2009 (EDT)

Add Link?[edit]

Should a link to the /Lore:Night_Mother page be added to this one? --Lilbacchant 22:40, 5 May 2009 (EDT)

Not sure if it's worth noting but..[edit]

If you run up to her and speak to her during Matt's attack, she has no options aside from persuading her. Her disposition is 100, so really nothing there either but she greets you with nothing special (typical Dunmer greetings, like "Hello there" and blah blah). TVthePunisher 03:12, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

We have a note with a similar dialogue option here, but to be honest, I don't think it's important enough to add - it seems like a really small oversight, nothing else. This is my personal opinion, of course, but in a game with a 4-digit number of bugs (maybe 5?) we should sometimes avoid the smaller stuff. :) --Krusty 07:37, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
