Strange little glitch[edit]

I found that I could pick up three clones of Debaser. First, I pickpocketed it from Agarmir before I started the Unfriendly Competition quest, then again after I started it, and once more after I killed him. Just something to note, possibly. --72.128.211.65 16:15, 15 July 2008 (EDT)

Or you could use one of the multiplication Glitches--VergilSparda 19:58, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Pop Reference[edit]

Could the swords name be a reference to the song Debaser from the Pixies? just a thought Falseglory 20:11, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

This was already discussed here and the outcome was there is not enough evidence to support this claim. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 11:20, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Oford Gabings (Frodo Baggings)[edit]

I think this sword is supposed to be "sting" (Frodo Baggings sword) from The Lord Of The Rings? — Unsigned comment by 86.157.44.89 (talk) at 17:30 on 20 July 2010

You'll have to elaborate on that theory. As far as I can tell, the Debaser have nothing to do with either Frodo or his sword. --Krusty 12:17, 21 July 20
how can you say this is unproven speculation read the Macabre Manifest If thats not an obvious easter egg i don't know what is. --81.129.107.243 12:09, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
The sword is called "Debaser", not "Sting". It drains willpower and endurance rather than glowing in the presence of orcs. Do you really need more proof that it's not the same thing? rpeh •TCE 12:15, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Dident say it was the same thing?, Said it was a reference/ easter Egg?. Pretty obvious if you ask me.--81.129.107.243 15:51, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
We already mention Oford Gabings and the ring here. The idea that Debaser is a reference to Sting has been discussed before and not accepted. It's an iron shortsword - if it had been an Elven shortsword it might be worth considering. This is a coincidence but nothing more. rpeh •TCE 16:01, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

() Could Debaser simply be the sword described in the Macabre Manuscript? Argamir does state his preparation to kill the player character when confronted, so where it is may hold no bearing on how he comes to posses it from its deceased owner.— Unsigned comment by 166.181.2.43 (talk) on 7:24, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

respelling the name gets frodo bagings and the sword belongs to him. There is script on it like on most elven swords from LoTR. I believe that this is supposed to be a reference to Sting as well mainly because the elven version of the short sword looks nothing like what sting is supposed to. This sword at least looks similar. — Unsigned comment by 96.231.10.83 (talk) at 03:02 on 13 June 2011 (UTC)
I hadn't thought about it, but now that it is mentioned, I do have to say it's plausible. It looks similar to Sting indeed, and seeing how Agarmir could've taken it from the deceased Frodo reference, it makes sense to me. ~ Dwarfmp 03:08, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Stats...[edit]

I have the sword but I finished the quest at an erly level, will the sword go up in stats as I do in level, or is it stuck where it is?--69.137.98.114 01:10, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Leveled equipment does not level with you. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 01:13, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for answering.--69.137.98.114 06:26, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
The only exception is the KOTN Divine Cruasder gear when you set it on the armour stand, but it is so that you do not get it at lvl 5, and end up with a useless set of armour at lvl 25.--Iamgoofball 03:47, 12 April 2011 (UTC)
Just use a Quest Item Leveller mod. 75.62.150.151 01:57, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

unofficial patch[edit]

the latest version of the unofficial oblivion patch (or at least a relatively recent one, not sure which) changes debaser to a shortsword and gives it the stats of chillrend for the most part. i'm not sure but you might want to make a note of it on your page.
