Summons and soultrap sidenote[edit]

As a side note about summons and soultrap. If you will attack minion summoned by someone else, that summoner will turn hostile towards you and will attack you for harming his minion. Have tested it on guard in Vos. He summoned bonewalker and I was up to soultrap it. Guard started to attack me but no bounty incurred. I'm curious if you will kill the summoner after he first attacks you, will it be count as self defense or assault + murder? It can be good alternative to frenzy and taunt spells. Summon spells don't work[edit]

In my game (GOTY), the summon spells don't work. I just got the Call Wolf one, and the effect is listed as "sEffectSummonCreature01" (or something along those lines) and it doesn't work. Same goes for the fabricant you can summon with Barilzar's Mazed Band, the effect is listed as "sEffectSummonFabricant" and it also doesn't work. Does anyone have any ideas how to correct this? 109.121.19.57 09:46, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

I have the same problem; it also affects Barilzar's Mazed Band. Reinstalling the game and its expansions has not fixed it, and I have not heard of a solution for this. 99.98.157.64 01:28, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
I was having the same issue. Two mods I had downloaded were causing it, as well as two mods I made while they former two were loaded. It should have been obvious, but as I was looking up a solution to post here, it hit me: evil GMSTs. That's what I'm pretty sure is causing mine, so I suggest checking any mods you're running to see if they are responsible and either clean or remove them. This could also happen if you are using dirty saves (previous save games that were using a dirty mod). If you're not using any mods and using fresh saves, I'm stumped as to what may be causing it. Peterpeterohsofeeter 01:17, 7 July 2011 (UTC)
I can confirm this error happened to me after installing a mod that added a spell, I removed the mod and boom, fixed

I'm not using any mods, and my saves are fresh... I just tried summoning things for the first time in the game, and it isn't working. At least, nothing happens, except the spell name pops up for a few seconds. However, then I looked at my spell list and noticed that the spell chance for my summon spells to work was 20. I'm guessing my Conjuration skill isn't high enough, or my stat isn't high enough for me to be able to cast this spell well. — Unsigned comment by 24.6.189.121 (talk) on 11 April 2012

what happens?[edit]

hi i was wondering what happens if you enchant a peice of clothing with a pemament summon spell?thanks!--GUM!!! 23:09, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

I don't know it myself, but according to this line in the summon article: Constant effect Summon Creature will work, but is bugged and can eventually corrupt your savefile. Feel free to try it, but save regularly., it might not be such a great idea. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 09:33, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
ok thanks!(i think it would just tottaly mess up my game :( )--GUM!!! 13:52, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
This is an old discussion, but I feel it relevant to answer. I think the Permenant Summon bugging your file statement is based on the soultrap glitch permenant effect. I have never had a problem with enchanting with constant effect summon, and even if it does become a problem you can remove it.--Catmaniac66 01:30, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Difference from Oblivion[edit]

For the players like me who first played Oblivion then Morrowind it may be worth adding that you can have multiple summoned creatures at a time if they are a different creature. So at the same time you can have an Ancestor ghost and a Flame Atronach summoned for example.

I did that, and I also moved this note:
  • When Summoning and Soul Trapping any creature be sure to stand about six feet away if you plan to cast magic on it. Should you be too close, the game code will have the spell target you instead of the summoned creature. This bug is only in effect before the summoned creature switches from ally to enemy, which takes on average three strikes.
If it still belongs on the page, it at least needs to be a bug, not a note. And also probably reworded, I have no idea what the hell it is trying to say.--Catmaniac66 17:08, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
  • Summons can also be used to practice your defensive skills (The 3 Armor skills, Block, Unarmored, and Sneak). To do this, you must first turn the creature against you. Hitting them 3 times will work if you can do so without killing them. Otherwise, you can use a Frenzy spell.
Sorry for the clutter, but note I removed was obvious, and who cant find something to wail on them without having to constantly resummon?--Catmaniac66 17:11, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Looting works only if you load a saved battle[edit]

What I've found about looting from summoned creature is, it doesn't work. Unless you save your game during battle, and load it immediately, so you can kill off your enemy and loot from him as he is falling to the ground.

Is it possible to summon a ranged monster?

Golden Saint[edit]

They also drop random weapons. I've confirmed on the Xbox they can drop Dwarven/Glass/Ebony/Daedric weapons. They also appear to ONLY use spears or swords, I'm not positive if my sample size was too small or what, and I'm also not 100% sure if wild Golden Saint's drop different weapons/shields then summoned ones, as I assume their IDs are different.Chronic 00:55, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Yes it says right there on the page that they drop a Random weapon and a Random shield, and at the bottom of the page is a list of the weapons they can drop. (Eddie The Head 01:03, 24 January 2012 (UTC))
Oh, excuse me, I must have misread the table. xD Chronic 02:45, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Constant Effect Summon Issue[edit]

I enchanted an exquisite shirt with a constant effect Summon Ancestral Ghost spell a while back. I have recently come by several shirts that will benefit me far greater. However at some point I lost the summoned ghost and can't find it to kill it and end the spell. Whenever I try to Remove the Shirt, titled "Shirt of the Dead", the game crashes. Is there any way to stop the enchantment? I've tried using the Remove effects console command, [Player-> RemoveEffects, 106], but that crashes the game as well. — Unsigned comment by 184.8.214.24 (talk) at 14:39 on 25 March 2012

Have you tried using a Dispel spell on yourself? It should get rid of the summon, at least it does when cast on enemy casters.--188.101.120.205 22:50, 1 April 2013 (GMT)
Nope, he cant! Dispell only works on non-constant effects. jan — Unsigned comment by 78.99.187.212 (talk) at 13:03 on 3 August 2013

After experiencing the same problem (exquisite ring w/ Flame Atronach constant effect), I was able to get rid of the bugs (not being able to take the ring off without crashing the game) by simply finding the room where you last left the summoned monster. You actually won't even need to find the creature itself as youll be able to take the ring off without crashing the game.

The above solution is correct, but if you can't remember where you lost your summon, you can use the PositionCell command.
Syntax is [SummonID->PositionCell, xPosition, yPosition, zPosition, Direction, "Cell ID"]
To get your summon's ID, summon the same creature with a spell or other means then open the console and click on it. The ID will appear in the console title area. Ignore numbers that are used for the unique ID. IMPORTANT: Reload your save. There should only be one active summon of a given type in a vanilla situation. Having more than one could be problematic.
To get x, y, z coordinates go third person view then open console then click your character. Using command [getpos x] will return xPosition. Repeat for y and z.(Since you're using your position, it's a good idea to move out the way before executing. lol)
For direction use 0. For cell id use the name on your map.
Example that places my constant effect Dremora near the Foreign Quarter ferry in Vivec, Devas Irano.
[dremora_summon->PositionCell, 27403, -77274, 578, 0, "Vivec, Foreign Quarter"]

Guards will attack summoned creatures in a town[edit]

Is this actually true? I have never had this problem with guards attacking my summoned creatures, but it's stated from various sources that this happens (including in some places on this wiki). Then again, my experience stems from the vanilla game, so maybe they updated this mechanic in later versions? Has anyone ever been able to actually prompt guards to attack their summoned creatures? 68.2.31.121 17:42, 15 June 2013 (GMT)

I have the "Game of the Year" edition of Morrowind. I have summoned every single creature possible (excluding ones for the expansion packs) and have never had anyone attack my summon or myself for doing it in a town. Although! I did have a single instance where someone attacked me in a town and I summoned an ancestral ghost to help me, and guards came and started attacking my ghost and I. I believe that was caused because the summoned creature attacked without being damaged first. So aside from some rare situations, guards will NOT attack you or your summoned creature without being provoked. — Unsigned comment by 71.207.30.102 (talk) at 03:00 on 19 July 2013

Alternate method for creating Permanent Summons! (Xbox)[edit]

1: Summon a Creature (does not have to be a custom spell).

2: Wait one hour (and have Auto-Save enabled).

3: Re-load the Auto-Save (game may freeze/crash if done right away or in a busy/crowded area, so turn the game off and on before reloading).

4: Summon another Creature from the same spell before the timer runs out, and the first one will become permanent.

5: Repeat steps 2 through 4 until as many creatures as desired are produced. (optional)

And yes, this will work for the Centurion Spheres created with the Summon Dwemer Centurion spell. This has been tested multiple times on the vanilla version of Morrowind for the Xbox. I don't know if it will work for the PC version or the Xbox's GOTY edition, but I'll test it for the GOTY edition once I get it. Bauglir100 (talk) 03:30, 27 February 2015 (GMT)

Alright, I found out someone already listed this on Bloodmoon:Glitches, so I guess it will also work for the Wolf/Bear summon spells in Bloodmoon. Adding the information to the article. Bauglir100 (talk) 23:45, 27 February 2015 (GMT)

Bear/Wolf Summon Spells.[edit]

So how is one meant do get those, anyway? This page doesn't state what quests have to be accomplished before they can be obtained. Bauglir100 (talk) 21:44, 10 March 2015 (GMT)
