Law in Morrowind[edit]

Whenever I talk to a Savant about the topic 'law in Morrowind' I run into a glitch where, after I get to the bottom of the text, it says continue but when I try to continue it takes me right back to the same text. Confusing, but it makes an infinite loop which I can only get out of by reloading. It happens with every Savant I talk to, although I'm not sure how the topic even gets unlocked, I think it was one of the topics on Imperial Law or something (early into this new game I started, a savant I spoke to didn't have the topic so it's just a matter of talking to enough people about enough stuff) Anywho, I really think this page (or perhaps the glitches page?) should have some sort of warning. Jihiro 05:12, 21 November 2010 (UTC) Edit: Ok I see, it's the topic 'Imperial Legion' which unlocks the topic 'law in Morrowind' Jihiro 05:18, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Which savant are you talking to? I just tried four different ones and couldn't get the topic to appear. I know I've got the topic because I can see it when talking to Darius (for instance). It looks to me like you're supposed to get "Morrowind is governed under Imperial Law, and under the law and customs of the Dunmer Great Houses. Conflicts of Imperial and Great House Law are governed under the Treaty of the Armistice, which reserves most local government functions to the Dunmer Great House councils. Local Magistrates judge cases and determine sentences; local guards execute the judgements of the Magistrates and enforce the laws." then "Theft, Trespass, Assault, Foul Murder, and Contempt are serious crimes; criminals must pay fines or serve sentences of hard labor. Treason is a most serious crime, punished by death. Noble House Dunmer have right of appeal to the House Councils; Imperial citizens have right of appeal to the King of Morrowind and his Dukes. By ancient House custom, offended House nobles appealing to House councils may refuse to accept compensation and may demand death for many crimes." after the "continue". I assume you're just getting the first one? rpeh •TCE 10:09, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Sarnir the Clerk in Dagon Fel, The End of the World, does it for sure. Also Andre Maul (who is also in Dagon Fel, in his own dwemer tower I had never noticed before until last night when I posted this) I'm sure I've seen others do it too, just can't remember for sure any specific ones. Like I said, the topic gets unlocked by speaking to them about "Imperial Legion" (which prolly needs unlocked itself somehow) Jihiro 17:19, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
EDIT: Ok so apparently there are different kinds of Savant. I just went to Phane Rielle in Balmora and he doesn't have half the topics the other Savants I spoke to did. And not the one in question either (law in morrowind). Also, Falvel Arenim in Balmora doesn't have the topic... The Savants I spoke to had TONS of topics, now these two have nearly none. In Ald'Ruhn: Ienas Sarandas, no. Tongue-Toad, no. Mivanu Andrelo, YES! (she is well hidden inside the Manor District, Council Club part. In Goras Andrelo's house).Jihiro 17:19, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Also, Yes that text you posted is what the topic is about, it says the first half and then to Continue but continuing just brings be back to the top of that text (i never get to see the second half)Jihiro 17:24, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Right. It's a problem with vanilla Morrowind - there's a script, "Choice "Continue" 1" on the second paragraph that shouldn't be there. I tested it in GotY and everything works fine. Do you have either expansion installed or just plain Morrowind?
The thing with Savants is that some of them offer services so are technically of class "Savant Service" rather than "Savant". Some also have a script called "nolore" on them that prevents them talking about certain topics. rpeh •TCE 17:25, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

I see I see. I have the vanilla xbox version so yeah looks like I just hafta avoid those talks =P Also, yes it WAS on the second paragraph, I never noticed before. That second paragraph keeps redirecting to itself. Jihiro 17:32, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I've added a bug note because this is obviously a serious problem. Thanks for finding it! rpeh •TCE 17:43, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Thank you so much for adding the bug section to the page! I was having a hard enough time trying to explain it here to you xD You managed to make it so clear and concise though =)Thanks again! Jihiro 17:48, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
