Lore talk:Hsaarik Head

Location

Hi, I was reading about this location ,and started looking for it on online maps and in-game, but no success so far. Does it exist in the game, or is there any way to find it on a map?

I heard from somewhere that it is the head where the city of Winterhold is..... i can't remember where from though. It may have been the official game guide, which means its probably best to take it with a grain of salt. Vos 09:01, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Yngol's Tomb Location

I'm not sure the note is warranted. It seems to me Yngol's tomb could be accurately described as northeast of Windhelm and "far below" the rocky face of Hsaarik Head. I don't think the devs would intentionally contradict a lore book in this fashion in the same game where the lore book was introduced. I guess you could technically say it was beneath Hsaarik Head, but the barrow is on the other side of the river from where Hsaarik Head, even if you define it as being the entire landmass. Also, if you look at where the entrance and exit are on the map, the barrow doesn't appear to run to the other side of the river at all. I'll give you that its odd for them to contradict their own book, but I think its far enough away that it should be notes. --AN|L (talk) 21:29, 21 July 2014 (GMT)

It looks to me like Ysgramor's tomb is actually the one that is below Hsaarik Head. I wonder if the developers got the two names confused or something. I think to note is warranted as-is though. -- Hargrimm^(T) 22:25, 21 July 2014 (GMT)

It's still treating something as inaccurate which doesn't have to be construed that way. We're basically assuming they made a mistake, which is something we shouldn't do absent a clear error. Insignificant Revisions^{Threats•Evidence} 15:16, 22 July 2014 (GMT)

I don't see how it could be construed any other way. Hsaarik Head is marked on the map as being at one place, and Yngol Barrow is not there and doesn't really come close to being beneath there. And this is not the only discrepancy. The barrow is listed as being in Winterhold, but if you look at the way the borders are drawn on the Skyrim map, it should be in Eastmarch. Also, the claw you use to open the barrow is bought in Winterhold. Both of these suggest that the barrow may have been located nearer to Winterhold at one time. --AN|L (talk) 15:45, 22 July 2014 (GMT)

Personally, I don't think "far below the rocky face of Hsaarik Head" can be interpreted as south of Winterhold and over the river. I'm certain its a dev mix up with the book (not the last time either, per ESO). Actually, the location of Hsaarik Head was probably more north than the official map shows, if we take into account the Great Collapse.--Jimeee (talk) 16:23, 22 July 2014 (GMT)

At the risk of necroposting, I just wanted to point out that in Songs_of_the_Return,_Vol_19, the author says that after Ysgramor arrived at Yngol's Barrow, "His eyes turned to the south, where a river met the sea, and decreed that there would he and the crew of the Ylgermet create a great city...", and, "Thus was founding of Windhelm...". This clearly indicates that Yngol's Barrow, and Hsaarik Head, should be located in a northerly direction from Windhelm (which the barrow is, barely), as well as from where the White River enters the Sea of Ghosts (which it clearly isn't). Also, in order for Ysgramor to be able to "...from his palace he might always look upon the hill of his dear son's resting place...", the barrow should be within sight of Windhelm, while the location of Hsaarik Head on the official map is not. This indicates to me that the devs didn't take this lore into account when situating Yngol's Barrow in TESV and Hsaarik Head on their official map. --Xyzzy ^Talk 20:41, 1 July 2018 (UTC)
