Lydia is a Nord housecarl who resided in Whiterun, originally serving under Jarl Balgruuf the Greater.[1] She became known for her sworn service to carry the Dragonborn's burdens all across Skyrim.[2][3] In addition to a sword and shield,[4] Lydia was known to wield a restored ancient Nord battleaxe smithed at the Skyforge.[5]

In 4E 201, Lydia was appointed as a housecarl to the Last Dragonborn after they became a Thane of Whiterun, as a reward for slaying the Dragon Mirmulnir.[1] Lydia explained that she was sworn to the Dragonborn and that she would guard the Dragonborn and all they owned with her life.[6] Reports claim that Lydia accompanied the Dragonborn on many adventures.[2][3] Notably she accompanied them on Solstheim, where she met the Skaal Frea. Lydia admired how well Frea fought for a Skaal.[7][8]
