Henantier the Outsider was an elven Harbinger of the Companions in the late First Era. He was among the notable Harbingers recorded by Swyk the Long-Sighted. The legacy of those who supported Henantier's rise to Harbinger is upheld by the Companions of the modern day.[1][2]

History[edit]

Jorrvaskr, the mead hall of the Companions.

When Henantier first came to Jorrvaskr, elves were not allowed to become full Companions.[1] In fact, few even saw the great hall. Henatier stayed humble in the daytime hours, completing the many tedious and mundane tasks asked of him.[1][3] Come nightfall, he practiced his fighting abilities in the outside yard, allowing himself mere minutes of sleep. His demeanor was always calm, never complaining despite the chores he was assigned. He helped the faction's new members learn the ways of honor, earning him trust among the new generation of fighters.[1]

Assisted by his long elven life, Henantier lived through several Harbingers, keeping his skills sharp along the way.[3] Eventually, one of the recruits he had trained from their joining became Harbinger themselves, aging to an old man. On his deathbed, Henantier sat beside him. The Harbinger gathered the full ranks of the Companions and proclaimed Henantier his heir, proclaiming that "even an elf can be born with the heart of a Nord sometimes." Many Companions laid down their weapons, leaving the guild instead of following an elf. However, those who stayed knew the truth of the Companions' way of honor.[1]
