[This book is a diary documenting the day-to-day activities of someone named Ruthir. Most entries are dull, but near the end, the writer shows a growing interest in seeing more of the world. Certain entries stand out, while others aren't worth reading.]
Entry 54:
I spent another day at the docks, helping unload one of the ships from Firsthold. One of the crew chatted with me for a while, we talked about the strange plants which grow in the Summerset Isles.
Entry 57:
A pirate ship was sighted far out to sea, south of Stirk. Where do the pirates come from? I think I'll ask around when I next visit the Black Flag.
Entry 65:
A rather grumpy captain was willing to talk to me. I asked him if he knew where the pirates spent their time when not on the seas, but as usual with the other ship-men I asked, he wouldn't talk about pirates. I guess maybe they consider it a bad-luck subject.
Entry 66:
While I was assisting at the docks today, I came across a drunk on the ship, passed out in the storage hold. He muttered something about pirates and "The Gap" but I don't know what he could have been talking about.
Entry 69:
Count Corvus Umbranox asked for a messenger to travel to Kvatch and deliver a message to Count Ormellius Goldwine. I fancied a break from dock-work, so volunteered. Now here I am in Kvatch, enjoying Count Ormellius' hospitality. It was a pleasant ride along the road from Anvil, and I think when I ride home tomorrow morning I will stop at Brina Cross Inn for a drink, if it's as sunny as it was today.
Entry 83:
Count Corvus has disappeared! Whatever will Countess Millona do?
Entry 84:
It seems that Count Corvus has suffered no foul-play. The guards have found no body - could he simply have grown bored and wandered off? Where would he go? Where might I go, if I were to do the same?
This book is nearly full, I had best start a new journal tomorrow.
