Quick Walkthrough

1. Talk to Galan Brandt about contracts with local merchants.
2. (Optional) Speak to Hin-Karast in the guildhall for more information on the prospective clients.
3. Go to Jana Livia in Nivalis and either:
   • Persuade her to contract with the guild without further work on your part (requires 50+ Speechcraft).
   • Retrieve 2x Raw Gold from Ashurnasaddus Grotto.
4. Go to Mist-Eyes in Firewatch and either:
   • Agree to secure 4x Scrap Metal from Rthungzark for his potions.
   • Supply him with an alternate recipe (requires 60+ Alchemy).
5. Go to Valvius Matius in Firewatch and either:
   • Pay his 800 gold signing fee in exchange for the location of the Glass Dai-Katana of the Leech.
   • Refuse.
6. Return the merchants' signing fees to Galan Brandt.

Detailed Walkthrough

Brandt's Brief

Galan Brandt wishes to reaffirm the Fighters Guild role in protecting the merchants of Firewatch, and orders you to persuade new merchants to sign up to contracts for the Fighters Guild's protection. He offers you half of the 800 gold each will give as their downpayment.

The merchants are as follows: Mist-Eyes the apothecary, Valvius Matius, and Jana Livia. Galan Brandt will direct you to Hin-Karast, the guild's book-keeper, to find out more about each. She's inside the entrance hall of the guild. Gain what information you wish from her, and then prepare to set out and persuade each merchant to sign-up.

Jana Livia

You have previously encountered Jana Livia during Burglary in Nivalis, and her dialogue options will reflect whether or not you successfully caught the thief. Asking her contracts with local merchants will reveal that she wants a favor first - the retrieval of two lumps of Raw Gold from Ashurnasaddus Grotto. If you have 50+ Speechcraft you can refuse this favor, and she will sign up with the Fighters Guild anyway. Otherwise, you must head to the grotto (or else provide her with 2x Raw Gold from elsewhere). The grotto is on the northeastern coast of Althoa, the island on which Nivalis is sited, and lies a short walk east of the settlement along the coast. The raw gold lies next the a skeleton high up in the southern chamber - you'll need to levitate to reach it. Return to Jana Livia with the raw gold, and she will agree to contract with the guild.

Mist-Eyes

Mist-Eyes runs the apothecary in the southeast of Firewatch. Given that he's already worked with the Fighters Guild during the events of The Potion Seller's Past, he'll be grateful for your help there. That gratitude does not extend to signing an 800 gold contract with the guild however. He wants ingredients for potions that might soak up some of the cost, and asks that you retrieve 4x Dwemer Scrap Metal from the Dwemer ruin of Rthungzark. If you have 60+ Alchemy, you can suggest an alternative recipe instead, and he'll (after expressing some surprise) then agree to sign the contract. Otherwise you've another trek ahead of you. Rthungzark is north of Firewatch, west of Koranyon, but scrap metal from anywhere will do. Return to Mist-Eyes once you have it to get his signing fee.

Valvius Matius

Valvius Matius runs the pawnbroker in Firewatch. He's a canny operator, and will suggest you make his payment for him, in exchange for information - the location of an enchanted Glass Dai-Katana. Refuse to pay the 800 gold demanded and he will sign the contract with the guild using his own money. However, if you accept this offer, he will reveal that it can be taken from Siridunbal, on the Isle of Arches, northwest of the island on which Port Telvannis sits.

Returning to Brandt

Once all required merchants have agreed to contract with the Fighters Guild, return to Brandt for your reward. If three signed, you'll get 1200 gold and 1 general Reputation point. If only two signed (because Valvius Matius was dead before the quest began), then you will only get a reduced reward of 800 gold.

He said I could find it on the Isle of Arches, just northwest off the coast of Isle Vahn, inside the cave Siridunbal. He warned me that powerful undead would likely be guarding it, and that I should not go to it lightly.
