Solve a pirate bird's riddles to find hidden treasure
Zone: Galen
Quest Giver: Lanazha
Location(s): Just north of Old Port Mornard on Galen
Reward: Gloomlantern Epaulets
Leveled Gold
ID: 6860

Lanazha and Kiko the bird are the sole survivors of a Dreadsails attack while searching for an ancient treasure. I agreed to help Lanazha solve the bird's riddles and find the Gloomlantern.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Speak with Lanazha to hear about the history of both her crew and the talking bird.
  2. Use the passphrases to hear Kiko's first and second clues.
  3. Go to the locations marked on the map and dig up the first and second pieces.
  4. Talk to Lanazha and Kiko again to hear a third clue.
  5. Find the final treasure and then talk to Lanazha.
  6. Meet Lanazha at the tavern in Vastyr for your payment.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

North of Old Port Mornard on Galen, along the dirt path between roads, you'll find the pirate Lanazha and her bird Kiko. Talking to Lanazha will reveal that Kiko is supposedly immortal and speaks in riddles that supposedly lead to a treasure. After learning of the passphrase from her, you can speak to Kiko and hear the riddles:

Riddle 1: "This half sleeps beneath the shade, in tangled roots of tunneled glade. A stream of fire cuts the trees, yet south of home for he who sees."
Riddle 2: "The second piece is within reach, between vaster shores and wind-wracked beach! Craft approach with spade in hand, eye the cauldron and turn the sand!"

Fortunately, Lanazha will write the riddles down for you (they show up in the quest description in your journal) and ask you to seek out the two locations.

The first location refers to the lava streams near the Llanshara wayshrine. Just north of the wayshrine is a giant green tree. Look among the roots of the tree for the dirt mound and dig it up to find the first treasure. Note: If you cross the root tunnel bridge you've gone too far north.

The second location refers to the beach near Old Port Monard. Find the path next to the small lava vent that leads down to the beach, follow it down to the water, and the dirt mound is on the eastern side next to a small tree.

Upon digging up the second mound, Lanazha will arrive. Speak with her, then Kiko, to hear a third riddle:

Riddle 3: "The sun-warmed side of Singer's path is where you'll find your prize. Hang Gloomlantern upon your ship to shroud her from all eyes!"

This time, Lanazha thinks she has the solution to the riddle. You can talk to her for a hint, or you can just head to the southern tip of Y'ffre's Path near The Telling Stone. Once there, look for the third dirt mound near the road on the north side, about midway between the two dotted paths on the map. Dig it up and Lanazha will arrive with Kiko. After asking for payment, she will admit that she doesn't have the funds and instead asks you to meet her at the tavern in Vastyr. Do so to toast your success and receive your reward. If you've helped Ilyes Maul with his quest "Buried at the Bay", you can also mention to Lanazha that he's looking for a first mate.

Notes[edit]

At each location, Kiko will appear and inform you that the treasure is nearby.

Lanazha said Kiko can repeat the riddles for me. I should talk to the bird.
Objective: Listen to the First Riddle
Objective: Listen to the Second Riddle
Notes
* Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the game and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
