Sinkhole Great Hall[edit]

I recently went through this cave (without reading this page first) and noticed that I crossed all of the plants in the great hall (including the one spanning the chasm near the boss-level chest) and none of them broke... And I crossed them repeatedly and didn't run. --DFire870 08:42, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

If you mean planks, not plants, then I can say that this is not unusual. On the 360, and potentially other versions, traps have a tendancy not to work, or can freeze in place, and this can become more common if you reload the area after saving. For instance, after entering Sinkhole, tripping the swinging log, then loading the Autosave, the log will still be in the down position, despite never actually being tripped in this timeline. I simply assumed that the board/plank "glitch" would work in a similar way, and the game thinks it's already tripped that trap. It could however, be a sign of a larger, physics issue, with your specific file, or perhaps your character is simply light on his feet (I doubt it, as any character can spring traps). If the Sinkhole planks are the only issues you are experiencing, then try leaving the cave for a few days, then returning. I have a feeling that the traps will reset, and become deadly once more (the planks over the abyss).64.231.251.143 16:40, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

Recent changes[edit]

I recently added a few tidbits regarding the location, which were accurate for players of all levels, and the information did seem consistant with the OPRP and example of Wenyandawik. I would like to help imrove the page, and would like to know how my formating was specifically wrong. I take no offence to the actions, I am a bit new to writing articles, I would just like to understand the undoing of my additions. Neural Tempest 17:11, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

Hey there! I'll try and explain; if you take a look at your edit here, first of all, the notes section are reserved purely for information about plants in the cave, whether or not you can access it at all times, stuff like that. The lack of a boss is not worth mentioning as it is displayed on the "occupants" listings under each zone (and when there is no boss, it is simply not displayed at all). Second, all the information in these sections (occupants, treasure, traps ect ect) is generated directly from the CS and is correct 98% of the time. However, while I'm not sure what an "immobile board walk" is (a Rotten Plank trap, perhaps?), if you found one of these and it is unlisted, then you have found a mistake. I'll take a look at this particular thing later on.
Now, if you want to help out on the OPRP, here is the procedure; we need walkthroughs - and in-game checks of written walkthroughs.
  • THIS CATEGORY contains all the pages with NO walkthroughs written. When a proper walkthrough is written you fill out the “writtenby”-column on the tag, which moves the page to
  • THIS 2nd CATEGORY. These are the pages that are ready to be checked by someone else than the author. Once that is done and you mark a page as checked, it moves to
  • The final CATEGORY. These pages are basically finished and can all be used for inspiration on how to write and check pages and what the walkthroughs should contain.
As of now, I can seriously recommend you to read through some of the pages in the last category - these are pages that are both written by one author, then checked by another. If you are interested in writing walkthroughs, the first category is the one for you - if you want to check walkthroughs, then the second category is for you. But we almost never change the sections you just change - they tend to be very correct, well, at least 98% of the time. Feel free to ask me further questions on my talk page and I'll try and guide you through this. --Krusty 18:30, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your clarification. I really do appreciate it. But I did spell the "Immobile Board Wall" correctly. It is simply a plank wall (not walk) that doesn't normally show up for players on the "in-game" map. You might call it something else, but it is shown in the "on-page" map (zone 1) as a pink (magenta) line. I would classify it as an obstruction, so I figured it fit best with traps (also in pink/magenta). The line in the map is not labelled, so the description should be added. Thanks again. -Neural Tempest 18:54, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Also, I simply called it "Immobile" to differentiate it from the plank walls that can be broken/knocked down (such as the break-away wall in gutted mine). -Neural Tempest 18:59, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Haha, sorry - the spelling mistake is mine! Like I said, I'll take a look in that cave later today. --Krusty 19:00, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I just went down there and looked; I agree that it is mildly confusing to have that pink line on the map, mostly because the wooden wall just serves as an obstacle - and a very unmotivated one at that. However, adding that info to the traps section is wrong - it belongs in the yet-to-be written walkthrough. Also, I'm not really keen on marking the map for cleanup due to this tiny detail. I'll try and talk with a few people and get a second opinion. --Krusty 05:18, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Great Hall Strategy[edit]

I recently completed this dungeon on a battlemage playthrough. I found that when all the bandits piled onto one of the plank bridges across the chasm, they all fell down into the chasm below. I'm fairly certain the plank bridge collapsed under their weight, but regardless of how it happened I was able to take them out easily using ranged attacks as they couldn't reach me without leaving the zone. Perhaps this tactic could be added to the article by someone more familiar with UESP's formatting. — Unsigned comment by 173.32.25.16 (talk) at 04:12 on 21 August 2018

The planks only need one person to walk in the right spot for them to collapse, there is no "weight" requirement for the trap to activate. It's a very generic tactic to lure enemies across traps so they are the ones damaged by them, and to hit them with ranged attacks from a location they cannot reach.
