Merge to MW:Trader[edit]

I don't see any meaningful difference between pawnbrokers and traders. The page claims:

  • Pawnbrokers will buy "miscellaneous goods that nobody else will buy, like plates."
  • Pawnbrokers "will pay less for each item."

These claims have existed since the first version of this page but have never been confirmed. As a matter of fact:

  • Traders will also buy miscellaneous items like plates.
  • Traders (or any non-creature merchant, for that matter) will always offer to buy any item for lower than its base price.

The initial write-up, which has persisted until now, might have been a loose reinterpretation of the description for the pawnbroker NPC class:

"They trade most kinds of merchandise and earn their living by buying low and selling high."

The only significant (but not absolute) difference between pawnbrokers and traders is the type of items they'll trade:

  • All pawnbrokers will trade Thieves' Tools; most (but not all) do not trade Books.
  • Most (but not all) traders will trade Books; very few will trade Thieves' Tools.

For these reasons, I'm proposing to merge this page to MW:Trader similar to how MW:Apothecary redirects to MW:Alchemist, which includes info on apothecaries as well. Salamangkero (talk) 15:25, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
