Beagan, exiled member of the Bear-Heart Clan ca. 2E 582

Bear-Heart Clan was one of numerous clans of Reachfolk that lived in the Reach during the Second Era.[1] Their name is derived from the blessing of Hrokkibeg, the Bear aspect of Hircine.[2] Some members of the clan were known for wearing simple pendants made of beer teeth and claws strung along a thin strip of leather.[1]

History[edit]

Little is known of the Bear-Heart Clan's past, but they were active in the Second Era. Circa 2E 582 Ardanir of Wayward Guardians sent an adventurer to rescue Reachfolk exiles who were taken captive by the Falmer.[3] The adventurer managed to save two of them,[3][4][5] but one of the exiles, Beagan a former member of the Bear-Heart Clan perished before the help arrived.[3][6][7] Ardanir of the Wayward Guardians pledged to bury his amulet on the banks of the Karth River in hopes that this would bring peace to the spirit of the deceased.[3]

In the same year the Gray Host descended onto the Reach to search for an ancient artifact of great power. Many of the Reachfolk clans stayed in Markarth at the behest of Ard Caddach.[8][9] It is unknown whether the clan answered the call and moved to the City of Stone, but it was active at that time as Wayward Guardians attempted to protect one of their exiles.[3]

Notes[edit]

  • According to Uraccanach the Witchman the Bear-Heart is the name of the blessing bestowed by Hrokkibeg, one of the aspects of Hircine. Allegedly it can be obtained by approaching him with deference and offering of honey-sweet mead.[2]
