House Indoril believes that Dunmer culture must be preserved at all costs. Change is the enemy of tradition, and it will weaken our strong foundation if we allow it to take root. House Indoril doesn't see outsiders and non-Dunmer as inherently evil and dangerous, and no outsider is forbidden from visiting Indoril territory. But housekin must always remain vigilant and observant.Understanding House Indoril by Andor Indoril[1]

Abbot Andor Indoril was a renowned Dunmer scholar and historian. He was known across Morrowind for his expertise in ancient myth and lore.[2] As a member of House Indoril, he also served as its Grand Historian and authored Understanding House Indoril in the 57th Year of the Golden Peace.[1] Furthermore, he played a significant role as a spiritual leader within the Holamayan Monastery, fulfilling the position of its abbot.[3]

History[edit]

Indoril Vault in the Library of Andule housing Andor's writings

Little is known of Andor's past. He climbed the ranks of House Indoril, became its Grand Historian, and authored Understanding House Indoril in the 57th Year of the Golden Peace, long before 2E 582, back when the Velothi venerated the Good Daedra.[1] By then, he was already regarded as an authority on obscure Dunmeri religious lore, widely recognized as an expert in the field.[2] He possessed extensive knowledge of sacred blade artifacts associated with the Daedric Prince Boethiah and was also skilled in the arcane arts as a spellcaster.[3]

Long before its location was lost to the Dunmeri population, the ancient Library of Andule, dedicated to preserving the genealogy and history of the early High Velothi settlers' culture,[4] housed his writings.[1][5] In 2E 582, it was eventually rediscovered.[6]

In 2E 582, he experienced a vision from Hermaeus Mora, announcing the arrival of his champion. Considering it was his first encounter with such an experience, he deemed it highly significant. The proxy who signed a contract with Mora, Leramil the Wise, and Curate Gadayn of the Keepers of the Dead visited the Holamayan Library in search of knowledge needed to handle the threat linked to the forgotten Daedric Prince Ithelia, and her scion Torvesard. The monastery was usually sealed off, as the stringent Ordinators considered the priests of Holamayan heretics. However, Andor allowed them entry and provided them with access to the knowledge necessary to fulfill their quest. The group soon departed for Anudnabia, the next part of their journey.[3][7]
