Rise of the Mer[edit]

Major Characters

Areldir, High King elected by the individual Kings of the Summerset Isle, he leads the invasion of the Empire (4E 1058-1061). Born in 4E 788 to King Nerandial and Queen Charisil of Alinor, he became the King of Alinor in 922. He wars with his brother, Nerandial II, King of Skywatch during the War of Inheritance (4E 933-939) -- a war which split the Kingdom of Alinor, which had come to rule the Summerset Isle. King Nerandial II surrenders to King Areldir, but before Areldir could exercise control, Nerandial sent out a message to Shimerene and Sunhold, the other two cities under his control, to splinter of the Kingdom of Skywatch. From here, King Tevelilor of Shimerene and King Emanalor II of Sunhold begin to war with King Areldir. This causes the entire nation of the Summerset Isle to splinter completely. Untity is only regained in 1057, when the other kings elect King Areldir to lead them. Tevelilor serves Areldir as a general throughout the rest of the series, while Emanalor II dies -- his father, Emanalor I was Emanaril's brother. King Areldir kills Emperor Tiberius Gratorius in 4E 1060, only nine years after his coronation. He at lasts claims victory in the Imperial City in 4E 1061.

King Ragnar, King of Solitude, and servant of the Prince Sheogorath. He appears in Book Two, and dies in Book Three (4E 1060). He was 83 years old.

General Flavius Lovitius, first in command of the Cyrodilic Imperial Legion, and later King of Derith (formerly Bruma), but for only a month. Him and his city are both brought down in 1060.

Emanaril, right hand-man of Areldir and eventually Crown Prince to the throne of the Altmeri Empire (as of 1065, in Book 4; SPOILER!) His brother, Emanalor is revealed to have lived in the Imperial City for centuries, and when he attempts to aid Areldir in his infiltration of the city he was imprisoned, where he was tortured and beaten before he was publically humiliated and beheaded in 1061. He was 657 years old. Emanaril himself lived to be 798 (4E 403-1201 -- both were born in 403, but Emanalor was born first, in Sun's Dawn, while Emanaril was born in Last Seed), just a bit older than his brother in High Elven perspective.

Tevelilor, highest general of King Areldir's army, and eventually Crown Prince Tevelilor upon Emanaril's ascension to the throne (4E 1101 -- not a spoiler, these events occur after the series ends). He single-handedly led a force of 56 men to victory against the legions of the Imperial City; because of this, he became the provincial governor of Cyrodilic-Skyrim (made into one province in 1072, with a bit of land taken from Hammerfell) until Emanaril was at last declared Emperor in 1101, following a chaos which enveloped the land for some time.

Derenil, vampiric brother of Areldir, he aids his brother from Book Three to the end of the series.

Carandial Gaieitrius, the bastard son of Areldir of Alinor, Carandial is the center of The Psijic Heir and is a Mystic of Artaeum (trained from 4E 1039 -- 1069). After his father's assassination in 5E 26, Carandial leaves the Imperial City and travels to Derith, where he intended to meet up with his fellow Mystic Lyrian Vormus to travel to Hammerfell and seek refuge there. He is, however, captured when King Ulmo II (former Mystic and fellow trainee of Lyrian and Carandial; better known as Ulmo the Mage) invades and takes Derith. He spends three years in King Ulmo's Court, until he betrays him when King Edgar Francois of High Rock invades his captial at Harradum in 5E 29. Carandial and Lyrian subsequently flee to the once large settlement of Markarth Side. A year they spend there until that too falls to King Edgar the Breton and the two are taken to the King himself in Harradum. There Edgar reveals to Carandial his heritage as the son of Areldir and tells of his four year search for the heir to the throne. He then hails Carandial as Emperor and asks if he would command anything of him. Carandial, after giving the subject due thought asks Edgar to name his friend Lyrian as the King Regent of Skyrim, and head general of its conquest. King Lyrian of Skyrim would later come to succeed Edgar Francois upon his death in 5E 59. Carandial then begins to gather followers and -- upon a meeting with Gamil Zaikar the Old Mystic, and the latest Master of the Psijic world (after Iachesis, Celarus, and Kenilor-Sae) -- his quest to recover the Six Psijic Artifacts of Power and become the next Master of the Psijics. Further info will be given following the conclusion of The Psijic Heir.

Minor Characters

Captain Jean Begamont, leader of the Breton force. in Areldir's army, he dissapears in Book 3, following the Fall of the Imperial City, but it is hinted at that he survived.

Lieutenant Endrenehl, second in command of the Breton army (the head is never named, unfortunately -- :( sad face), he is not really mentioned in the series following the Roots of the Forskaen, until the final book.

Sheogorath, -- well, I don't think I need to talk about him. You know how it goes, Shivering Isles story or not.

Haskill, again not going into detail here.

Commander Jolius, head of the Aleswell Garrison, and leader of the Legion there in the Battle for Aleswell. He was defeated by King Areldir, but in his arrogance rejected the king's offer of acceptance, resulting in his immediate execution. He was only 29 years old, and was the Great-Nephew of Emperor Tiberius Gratorius.

Crown Prince Irlav Gratorius, eldest son of Emperor Tiberius, brother to Prince Lorian and Princess Gia. He betrays the Empire in 1061 when he aids King Areldir of the Summerset Isle in conquering the entirety of Cyrodiil (4E 1061-1066). When Areldir is assassinated in 5E 26, the elderly Irlav takes control of the city of Tirian in western Cyrodiil as well as a good portion of eastern Hammerfell. He passes peacefully in 5E 30, and passes his scepter to his brother Lorian -- 20 years his junior -- and his sister Gia.

Prince Lorian Gratorius, second child and youngest son of Tiberius Gratorius, he is denied his right to the throne when his father dies (Irlav had been off fighting in Tirian against the invading Redgaurds of Hammerfell). He only regains any claim to royalty in 5E 26 when Areldir of Alinor passes and he becomes the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Cyrodiil, a position he holds until Emanaril III, son of Emanalor the Pure, comes of age for the throne. He then joins his brother Irlav and sister Gia in Tirian where they are expanding their new and fledging kingdom in all directions. Shortly after, he claims the throne in place of his brother and ruled jointly with his sister Gia until they split the kingdom in 5E 39, when he took Tirian and Kvatch (also known as Iontih) while she took the lands in Hammerfell. He defeats and kills his sister in 5E 45, and dies six years later. He passes the scepter to his only child and son, who was at birth named Uriel Gratorius III, but who names himself Uriel Septim VIII in 5E 63 and refounds the Septim dynasty.

The Saga of Caius Luco[edit]

Maxentius Luco, born in 3E 356, was the father of Caius, and the greatest serial killer, assassin, and thief (save perhaps the Gray Fox) of the Third Era. When contacted by the Dark Brotherhood in 374, he proceeded to kill the speaker who had attempted to employ him, and by doing so had unknowingly insulted him. The same situation occurred when he was approached by the Thieves' Guild in 404. His mortal life ended in 421, when he was 65 years old; however, he sealed his soul within a 16 year-old Caius Luco, but did not influence him directly until Caius was 27, which, in other words, was the climax of A Contract Amiss.

Caius Luco, born in 3E 405, is the main character of his self-entitled series. He is the son of Maxentius and Theodora Luco, the later of which is still alive as of the end of the series (4E 013); the former, however, officially "dies" in 421, but his soul is finally destroyed in 4E 013 (SPOILER!). Caius was a respectable citizen for the majority of his life, from his birth to the age of 27; when he was aiding a Shopkeeper take out some burglars, he himself ended up killing the owner, and raiding his shop before sneaking out to the Atrene Camp and living there for three months, until he finally moved to High Rock and joined the Brotherhood. These events are due to Maxentius' influence over him.

Azzan, head of the Anvil Fighters' Guild Chapter, he finally catches Caius in 4E 004, the 11th of Sun's Dawn. He is killed five years later by -- you guessed it! -- Caius Luco.

Descendants of the Martyr, Part One[edit]

Calaxes Septim II, son of Cephorus Septim III, son of Calaxes Septim I. He became Emperor of Tamriel in 4E 101, at the age of fifty. Whe he was 51, he sired Pelagius V and Potema II. He was killed in 4E 113, and was succeeded by Warlord Jolius Paldes, later Emperor Jolius Septim, and afterwards King Jolius Paldes in 4E 121.

Jolius Paldes, son of Derillian Morgoth, who took the name of his mother Kintyra III Paldes. He took the throne of Cyrodiil in 4E 121. He had one of the shortest reigns as Emperor in Tamriel's history, only lasting half a year. In 122, he was forced to retitle himself "King" due to his slipping grasp on Cyrodiil's cities. In 123, the Sorceress Potema II and King Pelagius V the Grand Strategist, along with the recently restored King Altraag II, invaded and took Cyrodiil. Jolius Paldes was spared but exiled to an island just off the coast of Anvil. Empress Potema II succeeded him in 4E 125. She reunited the Southern Provinces with Cyrodiil, while her brother Emperor Pelagius V reunited the Empire of Bretony (encompassing High Rock, Hammerfell, and Skyrim). She ruled until 137, and he until 149.

Emperor Julios Septim, the last of the Septim Dynast, was crowned as Sixth Emperor of the Fourth Empire in 4E 140. Much of his reign was punctuated by wars with his Uncle, the Emperor Palagius V, the Second Emperor of the Empire of Bretony. He defeats Pelagius in 149, and unites nearly all of Tamriel (excluding Argonia and Morrowind). In 156, as he is about to conquer Tamriel, his life is cut short by an unknown assassin. This ends the Septim Dynasty, and begins the Veron Dynasty.

Descendants of the Martyr, Part Two[edit]

Xessar Raleth IV, son of Vormayn Raleth, who was King of Mournhold (4E 89 -- 200), became the first of the Veron Dynasty as Emperor Jerryl Veron in 4E 180.

The Chronicles of Artaeum[edit]

*This begins in a way with Part Four of the Rise of the Mer, though the actual series ends after three parts.

Lyrian Vormus -- Following the conclusion of The Psijic Heir, Lyrian Vormus becomes a vassal regent of Edgar Francois' kingdom, governing over Markarth Side, Falkreath, and Solitude. After 30 years of ruling, he retired back to Artaeum to become the Lord of Psijic Council.
