    • Talk to him with 70+ disposition.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

An Unusual Robber[edit]

Asking Neras Hardil for orders after the completion of Hjaskar's Debt will see him ask you to respond to a merchant's request for Fighters Guild help over the case of a stolen silver mirror. It seems that she wants the mirror returned, and the thief both caught and "dealt with". Neras indicates that there is something off about this job, and tells you to meet the merchant, Ovaynel Mithryon, at her stall in western Andothren. It's just outside Lloran Manor. Talk to Ovaynel, and she'll inform you that the theft of the mirror was performed by a cliff racer she encountered at a crossroads. She'll ask you to search at the junction, southwest of Andothren.

The crossroads in question is quite literally just outside the walls of Andothren, behind the Morag Tong guild. The evidence you need to find is on the rocky crag immediately to the west of this - a cliffracer nest, with the Thieving Cliff Racer high above it. If you're having trouble finding the nest, there is a trail of silver items leading to it from the first fork outside of Andothren's western gate. At the nest, you will find Ovaynel's Silver Mirror. Retrieve it, and return it to Ovaynel.

Ovaynel, while delighted at the return of her mirror, finds it strange that a wild cliff racer would behave in this way. She suspects a cliff racer trainer is responsible, and will ask you to investigate. You can decline, in which case you need only return to Neras Hardil at the guildhall to complete the quest and receive 400 gold for your trouble. However, if you agree to investigate Ovaynel's theory, your adventure will stretch a little further yet.

How to Train Your Cliff Racer[edit]

Ovaynel will suggest asking around Andothren's scouts and taverns for leads on who might feasibly have been able to train a cliff racer in the criminal arts. Scouts and certain locals will mention the likelihood that a Wood Elf, using that race's affinity for animals, is a possibility. It's therefore Andothren's Wood Elf community that you need to ask about the cliff racer trainer - with 30+ disposition, any one (e.g. Safin at the Fighters Guild guildhall) will name Orblos as a Bosmer known for keeping a cliff racer as a pet.

Orblos works at the Hlaalu Council Manor, and keeps a house just behind it. You can choose to confront him directly, or search his house for evidence. Orblos' house can be entered either by picking the level 40 locked front door, or by entering through the unlocked balcony door. Here, you'll find the decidedly incriminating book, How to Train Your Cliff Racer on a table on the first floor, and can then present that evidence to Orblos to receive a confession. If you cannot access his house, then the other option is to confront him without evidence. He'll confess immediately if you speak to him with 70+ disposition, but will ask to sweep the matter under the rug. You can agree to keep quiet, in which case return to Neras for your original 400 gold reward. If you say that you will have to report the matter, Orblos will panic. You can extort him for his house key, or else insist on reporting to Dreynos Helvi.

If Orblos gives you his key, he'll mention a chest in his bedroom that you can freely take from. There's nothing especially worthwhile in this chest. Dreynos Helvi meanwhile will give you 100 gold for your report, and Neras Hardil will add an additional 200 gold to your reward if you uncover Orblos as the robber.

Notes[edit]

  • While Orblos' required disposition for a confession drops from 70 to 60 if you inform him that you've killed his pet, his disposition drops by ten also, making securing a confession through this sadistic tack impossible.

10 Ovaynel Mithryon, a local merchant, has contracted the Guild to find both a stolen silver mirror and the thief who took it. I should go and speak with Mithryon. She's got a market stand on the upper west side of Andothren.
15 Ovaynel Mithryon claims that a cliff racer stole the mirror from her while she was on the road. The theft happened in the crossroads just southwest from Andothren. I was told I could get there easily if I exit the city through its western gate.
20 I found Ovaynel Mithryon's stolen silver mirror in a cliff racer nest. There are also a number of other valuable trinkets here -- it seems that the cliff racer has been quite busy.
30 I returned the stolen silver mirror to Ovaynel Mithryon. She thanked me for returning it. However, she seems to think that there's more to the theft than meets the eye.
32 Ovaynel suspects that the cliff racer was been trained by someone to steal valuable items. I should ask around if anyone in Andothren knows someone who'd be able to tame and train a cliff racer.
33 Ovaynel suspects that the cliff racer was been trained by someone to steal valuable items. I dismissed this as nonsense. I should report back to Neras Hardil.
35 I was reminded that Wood Elves often have a unique affinity with wild creatures.
40 I was told that Orblos had a pet cliff racer once. He's a Hlaalu retainer and a guard in the Hlaalu Council Manor. He also has a private home behind the Council Manor.
50 Orblos denied knowing anything about the thieving cliff racer. I could take his word for it and return back to the Fighters Guild.
60 Orblos came clean, admitting that he did train the thieving cliff racer. He asked me to let him off the hook, arguing that he was just trying to make some extra money and that nobody got hurt.
65 I told Orblos I would let him off the hook. I should report back to Neras Hardil.
70 Orblos gave me the key to his house. He says that there's some more stolen loot hidden there in a locked chest. It's mine to keep, if I don't tell anyone that the thieving cliff racer was his doing. Dreynos Helvi, the steward of the council manor, especially musn't know of this. I suppose I could do as Orblos asked. After I'm ready, I should report back to Neras Hardil.
80 I told Orblos that he would have to face the consequences of his actions. I should speak with Dreynos Helvi, the Council Manor steward and tell him that Orblos was behind the thieving cliff racer.
200 Finishes quest☑ Neras Hardil paid me for doing the job. He has new orders for me now.
Theft from Above (TR_m4_FG_CliffracerB)
50 The thieving cliff racer is dead. The stolen silver mirror must be somewhere nearby.
100 The thieving cliff racer is dead.
Theft from Above (TR_m4_FG_CliffracerC)
100 I found a cliff racer training manual in Orblos' house that seem to incriminate him. I wonder what he has to say about it.
Theft from Above (TR_m4_FG_CliffracerD)
100 I let Dreynos Helvi know that Orblos was behind the recent "thefts from above." Helvi thanked me and paid me 100 drakes for the information. It seems Orblos' days working in the Hlaalu Council Manor are numbered.
