Dark brotherhood?[edit]

Shouldnt the encounter with dark brotherhood assassins be mentioned on this page as it isnt mentioned anywhere else. Also ive had encounters with the hired thugs not after murdering someone but after stealing items from someone.--94.169.44.32 09:46, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

The DB assassins are described on their own page here. More information about the Hired Thugs, including the stealing variant can be found here. Alphabetface 15:41, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Hired thug spawn[edit]

I believe that hired thugs actually spawn either at the npc who hired them, or in that persons home.

I pickpocketed from Ungurien in riften, and then went on to do the quest regarding marks of dibella maybe 5 minutes later, and the thugs were waiting for me in Haelgas bunkhouse. It might also be worth noting the the riften guards treated it as a brawl, so defeating them took some creative use of the Fury spell. — Unsigned comment by SithisIsMyCopilot (talkcontribs) at 19:00 on 24 February 2012

I don't know who wrote this, but I think it may be right. I stole from Hilde's house, came back to Riverwood and the thugs were standing on her porch (one of them had a bounty letter signed by her). I killed two of the Thugs with Illusion (I had to run away from the third). I then teled to Whiterun and when I came back the thug was gone, so he must have started to walk to Whiterun (I haven't run into him yet)--Anil 20:12, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
It looks like it's basically from people who otherwise can't just go to the guards. It may be linked to faction-alliegiances for the NPC, or the particular offense or the way you commit the offense against them. My experience: I got hired thugs and the note on them said they were from "Courier." Okay, maybe I pickpocketed him a little bit. Aaaand maybe I left him naked. But wow, sending two thugs after me and then being rude to me from then on out? That was VERY cool, and basically showed that yeah, it's entirely possible the hired thugs are from pretty much anyone you annoy who can't take their grievances to the city guards. So I followed him until he neared a city and used frenzy on a guard to get him dead. Man, sometimes the game needs a laugh track. 67.0.120.84
It doesn't have to do with being able to report the crime to a guard, it's just a possible scripted encounter you can get from nearly any NPC in the game. — ABCface 22:37, 4 September 2012 (EDT)
