Difficult to Kill[edit]
Proves difficult to kill him without angering his friends. — Unsigned comment by Ible (talk • contribs) at 22:21 on 29 November 2011
- No matter what I do the khajit merchants detect me and are hostile the next time they see me. Even if I wait many hours, even if I was hidden the entire time, even if I do a trick shot from a mile away while in stealth. Pretty ridiculous. — Unsigned comment by 173.169.155.159 (talk) at 07:06 on 21 December 2011
- Had no problem with this quest. Provoked him, he attacked me and died, and his fellow merchants ignored it though it took place under their noses. Oshaugm 08:15, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
Frustrating one[edit]
I didn't realize until my first attempt to kill this guy that he runs around with Ri'saad who I do not want to kill or anger. Like, the above poster, I first tried killing him in stealth. I was not caught and the merchants went on walking but when I approached them unstealthed they were hostile, including Ri'saad.
I backed up and tried talking to Ma'randru-jo and chose the option "you're a hard one to find" at which point he gets suspicious of you and refuses to give you any more conversation options. Because I didn't save before this I was unable to try insulting him instead to get him to attack me. So now, I'm stuck with either loading a save from 2 hours ago and losing a lot of other progress, or making my Khajiit fences mad at me. Or I may just leave the quest in my log and never do it.
Any way you look at it, quite annoying.

- I ran into that, too. If you pick the "hard one to find" option, he gets suspicious and then no more options to talk to him, so you can't provoke him. You have to pick the (2nd?) option where you say something about swatting him like a kitty cat (sorry, can't remember the exact phrase). If you do that, he will draw his sword and attack you, and then you can kill him with impunity. Oshaugm 06:16, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
How to kill Ma'randru-jo without others becoming hostile...[edit]
So I was messing around with this quest for a minute trying to figure out how to kill him without his other friends becoming hostile. I tried sneak killing with dagger, sneak killing with bow and all the others and I finally found a way. I talked to him first and selected the 2nd option from the top, which was some kind of insult, then went into sneak mode and cast invisibility until he couldn't find me and went from hostile to not hostile. I then tried talking to him and he wouldn't go into conversation mode but just kept spitting out the same line about me buying something or leaving. I then took a swing with a dagger while standing in the middle of his huddle of "cat things?" and he went down with 1 swing and no one became hostile....no guards, bystanders or other "cat things". Right after that both of his friends, that can go into conversation mode, went into regular scripted conversation and I could buy/sell from them.

- I didn't edit wiki until someone else confirms this. I'm on PS3 with 1.3 patch.

Confirmed on the PS3 as of 1.3. Although you don't have to restealth. Simply pick the "slap you around like a housecat" option. The rest of the caravan will say they don't want to get involved and you are free to kill. Make sure to loot for a lock picking ring
I just shot the guy and ran away and I went back no body was hostile I could still buy things
Must he Survive...[edit]
...to receive the reward for the contract? Can I kill him now, Join the Brotherhood, and claim the reward? -Kylaen, 22:27 EST, 5/6/13.
- I would highly suggest waiting to kill him. It is possible that killing him early will cause the quest to become uncompletable, and thus break the quest chain. Not 100%, but it is possible. Jeancey (talk) 02:32, 7 May 2013 (GMT)
As I thought. Thanks. -Kylaen, 20:45 EST, 5/6/13
