Follower Carry Weight

Some of you may already know this, but when you get a follower, your follower loses carry weight.

In other words, if you

  1. Go get Lydia as your follower
  2. Tell Lydia to go home
  3. Re-employee Lydia as your follower

then Lydia's carry weight is decreased. There is an excellent article explaning this in detail. You can check this by using getavinfo InventoryWeight console command as well.

This is clearly a bug. The developers wanted to make sure your followers always have default items on them to make sure none of them walk around naked. You can see this is the case because Lydia has steal armour set and a bow on her even if you don't see them when you trade with her. If you really want, use console command showinventory to see the hidden items.

The problem is that there is a bug that adds the default weapons to the followers every time they get re-employeed by you. In other words, when you re-employee Lydia, she will get another bow in her default, hidden-away inventory. You cannot see this when you trade with her, but showinventory will show you the additional bow. (This also explains why some Aela has multiple default bows.)

The only way to solve this problem is to remove all items from your follower and re-enable him/her. In other words, use following console commands in the given order:

  1. removeallitems
  2. disable
  3. enable

You're kidding me, right? Argh, did Bethesda test followers AT ALL in this game? First they don't scale, now they reduce weight. Which, by the way, means even assuming they intentionally didn't scale followers to make you switch them often, then this new bug defeats the purpose, as followers will steadily lose carrying weight until no space is left if you DO switch them often. Nice job! Only solution I can think of for those on consoles is marry the follower if possible and see if you can buy their hidden items off them - anyone willing to test that and see what happens? I know that your followers, if married and left home, will sell misc stuff that includes what they have in inventory, at the very least. Got Uthgerd's steel armor set from her that way, but as I am on console, I cannot confirm this did in fact remove one copy from her hidden stash. Seriously, if Bethesda wanted to do this, they could have made a separate inventory for followers that can't be touched and doesn't add to weight, where they stored their stuff... 10:48, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
How about Misdirection and Perfect Touch? Can you steal the equipped gear until there's nothing left to equip? 09:23, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
It will still regenerate armor. I've been doing pickpocketing to get some extra Blades armor from the follower I recruited. I found that occasionally I can "Perfect Touch" the armor off of them, but usually I have to ask them to follow me, give them better armor to equip, then release them from my service. I wait until they are asleep and they will have Blades armor unequiped that I can take. However, if i do take all of the Blades armor set- helmet, armor, gloves and boots - they will regenerate the equipment next time you come back to the sanctuary and have it all equipped, whether or not you ask them to become a follower again. However, I've found that taking everything but the main armor will cause the follower not to regenerate new armor. Interestingly enough, I've found that if you steal an item, enchant it and improve it at the smith- even rename it- then you can replant it in the NPC's inventory and he will reequip it once you reload the cell block. I've managed to improve the default armor of one of my Blades recruits this way- he now has two sets of Blades armor but will wear the better set I stole from him and improved. This might be exceptionally useful for dead thralls- steal their armor when they are alive, replant them after improving them and then kill them after reloading the cell block. ~~bakon — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 09:56 on 28 November 2011
WOW, thanks for this. What a stupid bug. I thought something was wrong when all she could carry was armor I gave her! I knew something was up. I am going to see how many bows she has later when I get home. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 16:34 on 28 November 2011
I JUST checked and she has 22 Hunting Bows!! Nice one Bethesda! ALSO: before you guys use 'removeallitems' command, make sure to take from her what you want to keep! It looks like that command just deletes everything no questions asked. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 23:10 on 28 November 2011

() Here is one strategy to avoid this problem. Decide beforehand which follower you want to keep long term. Take Jordis for example. Avoid entering Solitude while you do other quests and build your skills up. When you're ready, do the quests to get a different housecarl. Keep that follower with you until you complete the Throat of the World quest. If you have to enter Solitude beforehand for quests or whatever, just don't do the quests to get Jordis. Once, you've completed The Throat of the World, do the appropriate quests to get Lydia, Iona and whoever else, one at a time and bring them to Sky Haven Temple to become Blades. Now go get your desired follower and enjoy! EnigManic 17:57, 27 December 2011

Yes, many thanks! My Lydia was getting weaker and weaker and nothing seemed to help. I was giving her potions and food (which she didn't touch), then dragged her to Kynareth's Temple for the healing blessing when she got too weak to carry potions, even got the Healing Hands spell just to try that on her. In the end, she was too weak to even carry a chaff of wheat (0.1 weight). Of course, I made things worse by leaving her home, then periodically returning to have her follow me again to see if she had recovered...
So I performed the console magic ritual last night and found out that she was carrying 37 Hunting Bows and 439 iron arrows, in addition to steel armor/boots/gauntlets/shield. No wonder she wasn't doing anything but sit in my bedroom eating bread and looking tired! Now she's back in action, better than ever (thanks to the stats level-up), being my sword and shield and carrying my burdens :-)
Re: the poster who asked "did Bethesda test followers AT ALL in this game?" : I'm sure they did. If you have been on any large software development project, it's easy to see how something like this could slip through. One part of the test plan was probably to test that follower recruitment/release works properly, so that tester would have done a lot of follower recruitment/release actions (e.g. to make sure followers return home properly) but would not have done much questing. Another part of the test plan would be to make sure followers work properly during quests, so that tester would simply recruit the follower once and then go questing. Even with a few follow/release cycles, it's a subtle thing to miss as you only lose about 2-3% carrying capacity every time you ask someone to become a follower. Unless you really test for this specific thing, you're not going to load up on stuff, dump it on your followers and record exactly how much they can carry. 18:36, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
So, will this fix the bow, issue, as well? If this removes their deault hidden bow, then they'll use the one you give to them, right? 18:47, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

() Very interesting comments. My character Married Aela. After a while I was unable to even give her a dagger. Testing a few things on my PS3, I bought all the weapons and armor from her store and then I was able to give her better armor and weapons. At least on my game the multiple armor and weapons regeneration seems to be a valid theory. At the time she had three sets of Ancient Nord Armor in her store that I purchased. I can not remember the other equipment in the store inventory. I can not say for sure since Skyrim does not have console commands for the PS3, I can only note my observations. However, buying her store inventory of armor and weapons gave me back the ability to trade equipment with Aela. This must be a bug since you can never afford to keep doing this. At least I hope this is a bug Bethesda will correct. (31 December 2011) — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 23:18 on 31 December 2011

Some Enchantments on followers don't work as expected.

I outfitted J'zargo with "Destruction spells cost 25% less to cast" x4 (free spell casting, theoretically), and his behaviour goes as follows:

Casts 4-6 lightning bolts.
Casts roughly 5-10 seconds of Sparks.
Switches to melee.

The only explanation I have for this behaviour is that his magicka pool runs empty, which should not be happening. Any ideas? Drakenz 07:46, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Well, without testing, I would imagine that one of three things is happening:
1. The 25% stacks (maybe due to a bug, or just to prevent costless spells), so that the equation ends up being
Cost(sub n)= Cost(sub n0)* %
Cost(sub n-1)= Cost(sub n)* %
Cost(sub n-2)= Cost(sub n-1)* % etc...
Esentially, the effect of the next item would work upon the remaining 75%, and so on, so that you get a smaller decrease each time, and never reach zero.
2. It's bugged. Once it reached 100, maybe the las effect stops working? This would only work on decrease effects, though, not effects such as "increase magica regen by 150%.
3. Maybe J'zargo isn't out of magicka, but his AI is behaving like that, because he isn't using the magicka. It might somehow think that he used it all, just because he used as many spells as he normally would. This would mean that AI behaves without regard to enchantments upon them, whether theu are working or not. Thus, a follower may use a one-handed weapon because their one-handed skill is stronger than two-handed, even though you have used an enchantment so that their two-handed ability would be more effective.
This is all speculation, of course, but they all seem equally possible. -TheThirdWilliam 17:34, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
you can check his current magicka value by using getavinfo magicka, though i would imagine it be the case thats its simply his AI being poorly designed rather than enchantments not working. ~lendial — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 04:47 on 19 December 2011
Magic School enchantments are bugged on followers. I gave Marcurio a Paralyze Staff and a ring with 911 Fortify Alteration and after I made sure they were both equipped he started using the staff for sometime and after checking his inventory the staff's charge was consumed.— Unsigned comment by Amnesia47 (talkcontribs) at 11:27 on 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Follower Count Bug

I've only ever had Lydia as a follower (aside from temporary quest ones). I left her at home while I went thieving and assassinating, and now a couple of levels later she won't rejoin me, saying I already have a follower. I don't. Possible candidates MIGHT be:

  • Barbas, who I picked up at some point (although instead of coming with me to Clavicus's Shrine like the journal says, he's teleported off somewhere).
  • Farkas, who went off to the quest location on his own, which doesn't exactly count as "following"...

Those are the only two I can think of, and in either case it's pretty badly broken if it's counting them. I don't think I CAN do Barbas's quest (without spoilers, which I don't want), since the quest target just points at wherever I am, but I'll try Farkas's and see if that fixes it. Aliana 13:33, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Okay, it's Farkas. Even though he isn't actually following you, he still takes up that slot. Aliana 10:09, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Yup, Farkas... However i do not see why you took the time to ask here rather than just fast travel and check it out!!! Blashyrkh 17:21, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Using the infinite carry glitch by telling a follower to pick something up

Just a warning. That glitch is helpfull for when your out of space but when I bought the biggest house in Solitude I realized it would be easy as pie to get Lydia to take everything out of the cupboards of Breezehome so I could take it with me. BUT almost every single item she took, once I took it back, was marked as stolen. Even some things I smithed my self or quest rewards like Wuuthrad. This is obviously a pain. Don't know if it happens every time, but just so everyone knows. --Lyco499 02:15, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

The Stolen flag will clear from the item if you simply drop it and pick it back up again. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 22:33 on 23 December 2011
Also, I asked Lydia to pick up 14 Dragon Bones from the floor after her carry weight was maxed out, when I checked her inventory it only read 1 Dragon Bone, can be hit or miss using this glitch. This is on XBOX console patch 1.3 - 13 December 2011 — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 07:43 on 23 December 2011
This is glitch with follower pick up, if you throw stack of items only 1 will be picked. You must throw them one by one. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 19:00 on 31 December 2011
From what I've seen, a Follower takes ownership when retrieving items from containers. You can avoid this by having the follower pick things up individually from the ground. Also I wasn't having luck simply dropping and picking things up to clear the Stolen tag, I had to have the follower pick it up and then I was able to retrieve it by dialogue without further issue. 16:30, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
If it means a lot to you wether items are labelled stolen or not, you can allways (If the dropping/picking up doesnt work) use the console to <setownership>. Blashyrkh 17:26, 19 January 2012 (UTC)

Blade Carry Weight Changes

I've noticed that when I had Lydia join the Blades that her ability to carry the exact same weight of weapons and apparel seemed to decrease. I was wondering if there were any stat changes upon becoming a Blade? Has anyone noticed anything similar? — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 21:05 on 9 December 2011

By reading through the previous topics, I guess she may have somehow generated another hunting bow or set of armor or both, because of the bug that causes them to generate a new one of these items every time they are dismissed. Did she leave your service? Broxigar 11:13, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
Answer: After your follower joins the Blades, it will now have a new set of armor + the default set which both weighs a lot. Blashyrkh 00:56, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Follower Classes (and SetClass shortcut to catch them up to your level)

Inspired by the Nightblade / Spellsword howto above I started digging through console commands to see if I could determine the current class of my follower - Jenassa at the moment. This information doesn't seem well publicized or at least it isn't all together in one place. This is what I've got so far:

1. You need a list of the classes to start. This Wiki doesn't seem to have a list I can find (or could someone point it out?), Wikia does have this semi-helpful page:

2. Here's the tricky part. You can "help <classname> 0" in the console to get Class ID's, but I have no idea if my reference above is a complete list, and there are multiple versions of some (different proficiencies, like the howto explains) that are difficult to distinguish, at least in the console. A table of Skyrim's follower classes with the class id's and variations would be handy here.

3. Now the tedious part. Take your best guess or just go through the list. Use the console command "getisclass <classid>" to try to find a match. (You'll have to click or prid the follower first, of course.) I've looked at a few "complete" console command lists and there doesn't seem to be anything like a GetClass. :(

Jenassa, by the way, is a Ranger. She sure talks like one. :p 21:22, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

Additionally, I can confirm that the setclass shortcut worked on Jenassa to catch her up to my current level. Ranger is 13181, so "setclass 13181" brought her up to par without duplicating any inventory and the additional hassle of dismiss/disable/enable/hire. Confirmed with getavinfo health / marksman. 21:52, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Lydia's class, Warrior, is 13176. Going to try setclass for a few levels and observe if any side-effects. 22:54, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
I've used the setclass shortcut on Lydia at least 10 times now, no side effects observed. If anything this almost makes her too powerful. 17:47, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, very helpful! — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 07:29 on 12 December 2011

() Nice going. AFAICT this works fine, and it's certainly a lot less hassle. Probably as good as things are going to get until the CK comes out and we can fix followers to actually work properly. Note that you can use a batch file to avoid the clicking or having to remember the class numbers, e.g.

prid a2c94
setclass 13176
removeitem 0010e2dd 1

saved as "levelup" will let you just use "bat levelup" in the console to fix Lydia (and remove her default bow), and something like AutoHotKey would reduce it to a single keypress each time. Aliana 17:13, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

I've found another perhaps simpler shortcut that I'm now using instead of setclass: setrace. Disappointed in the dearth of female Khajiit followers, I decided to, erm, "experiment" on Lydia. Turns out she works perfectly fine as a pussycat (animations, dialog, etc) with only minimal side-effects... well, she loses the model when I re-load the game from save (so I have to setrace something-else then setrace khajiit again), except she does keep the tail. :D Anyway, what I also noticed is that setrace has the same benefit as setclass. It catches her up in (getavinfo) stats. And I don't have to memorize her classid, since setrace takes plain old strings. 01:40, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Follower's Follow Distance is Too Close

I don't expect the followers to perform flawlessly, but their AI leaves a lot to be desired. With a follower stealth is nearly impossible, they don't stay put if a fight breaks out even if they have been commanded to do so, they blunder into the same trap over and over, they often get stuck or will not follow you through rocky areas, etc. The biggest annoyance is that all followers stay way too close in a dungeon. When my character stops, the follower often keeps moving until they bump into me. I've been knocked off of a high ledge more than once because of this. Does anyone know a way of setting the AI to increase their follow distance? — Unsigned comment by Med (talkcontribs) at 15:43 on 12 December 2011

Odd, my Lydia is often so far behind me in dungeons I have to go back and make sure she isn't taking a nap. More than a few times I've engaged with an enemy or group that's just a little over my head, and I keep waiting and waiting for her to show up. Inevitably I retreat and in some really bad pathing situations I had to "moveto player" in the console. :\ 17:45, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
I think the first (unsigned) poster is actually talking about the Dark Brotherhood Initiate. I've had the same problems with her (as it is the female version). Luckily, her knocking me off of a high ledge was the Bard's Leap and I got a skill bonus from that. 13:06, 14 January 2012 (UTC)
It seems only the Dark Brothertherhood Initiate is the one not knowing the term (claustrophobic). My other followers keep their distance but I hate it when they talk loud in dungeons. It kills the mood. It would be nice if they said something useful like "There seems to be a draugr up ahead. Shhh." instead of them yelling "WHAT DO YOU NEED MY THANE?!" — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 13:43 on 16 January 2012

Mjoll is 2H/Heavy/Archer. So it seems a case of you gave her a weapon she won't use, so try giving her a 2h weapon. 18:05, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Updating Quest Follower Section with More Information

I hope none of you mind, but I'm going to add another column into the Quest Follower section (Usable in Other Quests). If you like having a traveling party (like I do), it will be useful to know which NPCs will accompany you everywhere. Numerous times I've started a quest only to find out that as soon as you leave the quest location or fast travel away, the NPC either does not exit with you, or immediately leaves you when you reappear in another location. -- 02:04, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Please Clarify Follower Stats

Ive noticed the article no longer mentions that skill levels are determined the first time a follower is loaded, and never increase as you level up. Does that mean this has been fixed with the current patch? I mean I keep hearing people say that followers do level up as you progress, but afaik it has always been the case that followers technically level up, but their skills remain the same as when you first met them. Im just confused if this issue was actually fixed with the latest patch, or are people just getting confused? I would check myself, but I play on 360 because my pc cant handle skyrim. 23:10, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

You're right: some edit to the article has left it in a state where it's almost exactly wrong. I'll correct it in a minute, but I expect it'll end up wrong again in a few days because getlevel returns the "right" value even though the skills, health, and everything else don't actually update. Aliana 10:22, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Listing all stats on a follower's page

Since we know all of the stats for each follower, shouldn't it be added to their page, not just their "best" stats, which don't even give hard numbers?

Listing if they cap or not would help too, as it seems some followers cap at a certain level. 21:14, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Best Follower for Ebony Blade?

I'm wondering which of the followers is best for the Ebony Blade. Preferably one that "dies" like Lydia. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 16:29 on 16 January 2012

Clarify if you mean wielding or upgrading the blade... If you mean upgrading it to the wanted 30 lifeabsorb (hence the nickname "The Vampire") then i suggest one you haven't quested for and grown attached to. I chose the hired blade from the Inn in Windhelm because it was the closest, and then i cheated by using console to resurrect him and repeat untill done, oh and the reason why he was the closest was that i was doing Boethia's Calling alongside, i hope it helps. Dismiss a follower without talking to them

I've gone and lost lydia, a glitch with some dungeon, and I haven't got any saves to go back before it, so now I want to dismiss her, but I can't talk to her, and I'm on the 360, so I can't use console commands, so how can I dismiss her without talking to her? are their any in-game scripts that remove a follower from your service? I know Farkas can, but I've gotten a second glitch so now the companions quest line is stuck at the begging to, i think I might just have to redo my character completely which pisses me off. any help? — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 22:26 on 16 January 2012

Haha! Got married and Lydia showed up and was booted as my companion, I'll keep that in mind for the future — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 11:08 on 17 January 2012
when they are "stuck" somewhere, they seem to "beam" to your house (or any other fixed location). When not, they will walk to you, which will take a looooong time when you move around a lot. Whenever this happens (and it happens too often) I way a day, or sometimes two or three in my house, and she is there again. Sometimes I have to tell her again to follow me, sometimes she does that on her own. You can also start some quest where you get a follower, you will then see some message about the new follower replacing the old one. After the quest you can find the old one at its normal hire location. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 20:46 on 29 January 2012

Followers Fighting Each Other

Why to Followers have to fight each other? Unless there was something I missed, what is the reason for Followers fighting each other when they accidentally hit one another while fighting an enemy.

I only hope this is a bug which will get fixed. However what I do to fix this is to either go through to a new map (door that loads - which does not always work) or fast travel to another area on the map.

If this is not a bug. What is the best way to stop them without having to take these cumbersome measures all the time. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 09:06 on 17 January 2012

- I don't think it's a bug. As far as I can tell, followers have a tolerance for (accidental) hits by you or another companion/atronach. Breaching a certain point triggers an attack or escape (maybe even bounty?).
I had this problem with Anska and Jenassa. Anska accidentally hit her, so Jenassa started to fight her until she went into wounded status. Healing her resulted in continuing her fight.
Solution: Wait until one is down and run! Either leave the wounded one far behind (= fight is over because of successful escape - you don't need to fast travel, just run away a bit) or move to a new area with a loading screen (which can be rather annoying).
(Using magic/scrolls to placate them could work, but needs testing).- 10:07, 22 January 2012 (UTC) fay

Possible inventory bug involving disable/enable console commands

When using the disable/enable commands to properly set follower stats I noticed that some items were missing from the follower's inventory upon return. I tested a bit by giving J'zargo a mix of Steel Plate, Ebony, Elven, and Light Elven armor pieces. He had multiple pieces from each set, with a mix of default, smithed, and enchanted gear. He also had a number of weapons and a Hammerfell clothing set (Alik'r Hood, Hammerfell Garb, Redguard Boots.) After dismissing him, then disabling/enabling and rehiring he was missing all non-enchanted pieces from the Steel Plate and both Elven sets, as well as the Redguard Boots. Enchanted Steel Plate and Elven items remained, as did all weapons and all other apparel. Can anyone else confirm on these or other items? If this happens to many things the claim in the article that "the follower's inventory will remain unaffected" is dangerously misleading. Arcanist 07:16, 18 January 2012 (UTC)

Bug with my follower (small story)

When i was playing about 3 days ago i told my follower (Dark Brotherhood Initiate/Male) to wait at The Great Porch in Whiterun then i traveled and forgot about him (and where he was) until it said "Follower has grown tired of waiting" or whatever it says. Normally he would head to the Dawnstar sanctuary but this time he didn't (i went there and snuffed out the whole damn place but no sign of him) so i had no clue where he could've been and it wouldn't let me get a new follower so i was pissed off. Eventually i gave up so i decided to do the Companions storyline until i got a mission where you go with Vilkas and when i left Jorrvasker i looked right to see him running down he stairs from Dragonsreach so i walked up to him and pressed triangle and the option "Follow me" was there but when i pressed X he said "You've already got a companion. I fear i would get in the way" so i followed him ALL THE WAY to Dawnstar to find out it was fixed. In bold is the bug and how to fix it (you don't need Vilkas any quest NPC will do) — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 10:53 on 22 January 2012

Removing starter gear resets perks to 0?

I removed Marcurio's Adept Robes of Destruction and if I believe what the console tells me, his perks might have been reset to 0, thus removed. Because there's not way of telling if that is actually the case and I've seen to discussion about this issue, I'd like to ask if anyone can confirm this. -- 22:02, 22 January 2012 (UTC)Anonymous

Could you be more specific on what you're seeing? What is the console telling you? I removed his Robes, and he's still got his perks. --Vardis 22:18, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
I tried it again a minute ago; I removed the robes and his bow without problem, but when I removed the only thing that remained (his shoes) minus his iron arrows, his inventory was reset; his robes, his bow and his shoes were back on and the console returned "GetItemCount >> 1.00" and "Perk Rank >> 0" twice. -- 00:19, 23 January 2012 (UTC) Anonymous
Ahh, I'm not sure what that refers to. When I remove all items, I get messages about them not bleeding out among other things, which is always a relief. ;)
Checking specific perks, Hasperk 581f5 (recovery 2) was returning a value of 1, as was his magic resist. Both after I yanked everything off him, and then after I just left him shivering in the cold. -Vardis 08:14, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Follower Equipment possible enchantments missing Waterbreathing and Fortify Destruction

I can't seem to edit the list so would be great if someone could do it.

Equipping a follower with Waterbreathing enchantment works. Without such an item they will keep swimming back up to the surface, then dive down towards you, quickly swim up again for air, etc. With a Waterbreathing item they stay underwater for as long as you are.

Fortify Destruction is more complicated - it works on follower equipment when it comes to having their weapons cost no charges. Meaning, if you equip a follower with four 25% fortify destruction items and a weapon of Shock Damage, the weapon will never run out of charges. HOWEVER, this ONLY works if you equip the weapon on them AFTER you already equipped the full 100% fortify destruction from other equipment. When in doubt remove the weapon from their inventory and give it back to them. — Unsigned comment by (talk) at 01:54 on 25 January 2012

Oh good grief... talk about perverse. Great job pinning it down: the "sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't" problem that causes has had people scratching their heads for weeks. Aliana 23:26, 25 January 2012 (UTC)
Except now that I think about it, this still can't be the whole story, because when I tested it I fully refilled Jordis's sword and bow before heading out (so I could be absolutely sure if they were using charges or not based on whether the "Charge" option showed up), and both were at about half when I checked them later. Since she would have had to have equipped at least one of them AFTER getting the "freecast" gear, the theory unfortunately falls apart. :( Aliana 01:44, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
I re-tested just to be sure, and yeah: this definitely isn't true. My guess is you just happen to be using one of the (very few) followers it DOES apparently work for. Why some do and some don't is a whole other problem in itself: I've got some ideas, but I'm hoping the CK will let me avoid having to grind through testing them. Aliana 02:33, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
Waterbreathing is fairly pointless since NPCs don't take water damage anyway, but since it does have a behavior impact and there's nothing useful you can put in the second slot on a helmet anyway thanks to all the bugs, I'll add it. Aliana 02:33, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

cant find

the guy who wants to join you in your journey to find this tree. I cant remember much, it was quite at the beginning. in the whiterun tmeple where they ask you to go to this one tree to save the tree in whiterun, that guy wants to come with you. he died quickly for me as he always wanted to engage in fights, I wonder what would have happened if he had survived (if that is even possible)— Unsigned comment by (talk) at 15:59 on Jan 28 2012

The person you are thinking of is Maurice Jondrelle, and something does happen if you successfully bring him to the tree, see The Blessings of Nature for details. Arcanist 19:11, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
